Anyway way to do this (for terran buildings). I dont want people to liftoff on installation terrain because well you cant have buildings on installation terrain, so they are basically screwed if they liftoff as far as landing and upgrading, and I am unable to create units on installation terran, so thats why I want to prevent it in the first place. Any way to do this? I really dont want to have to prevent some curious george from being able to finish the game cuz his upgrade building cant land or is destroyed. :\
Impossible to disbale the liftoff option. Sorry.
Is there any way around this? Im sure theres gotta be something by now to be able to create a building on installation terrain or something. Arg.
Nope, there is no way. Best guess would be stack 5 or 6 of same building so iof it lifts off and dies they still have more.
Isnt there a special type of terrain that you can place that allows you to build in installation?
Im pretty sure there is, but I cant remember it right now.
I thought so too. Couldn't you use Null terrain? I forget which kind is walkable, like 1-14 or something, but can it be built on as well?
Apparently if you use the second set of tiles which is identical to the first near the beginning they can be built on. You have to make them with Starforge though.
thanks a ton, yeah Ill do the Starforge when Im finished with my map. This way I can just destroy lifted buildings and create new ones on the ground.
Edit: Yeah, its that black terrain, i think its called Null. Well anyways you can land and create buildings on it in the installation terrain. Thanks for your help guys.
theres buildable installation terrain? what number sets? oh and you could just give a warning like DONT LIFT OFF OR ELSE or IF YOU LIFT OFF... (insert text here)
Actually.... there is a way to disable liftoff..... I currently know of 2 ways.
1) Create a trigger that Removes or destroys the building when lifted and recreates it in it's previous position.
2) In starforge or SCMDraft you can place a sprite of the building, select sprite properties, and make sure "draw as sprite" is unchecked and "disabled" is checked. The only problem with this is that the building looks half built, it gives the disabled sound when clicked, and none of the commands that you can normaly give the building can work (Liftoff, Build Addon, Etc.)
I hope this helps.
Unfortunately I need the buildings to work for #2, and the only way for your first suggestion would be as previously stated to create null terrrain and have it be created on that null terrain.
I got one idea. Use the unused tiles from 36 to 50 under the building. Then have the trigger that removes and creates the building as landed.

To those giving help:
- Read posts carefully and understand them before you post. Otherwise, you're no help to anyone and should get out of the Assistance forum.
He
was asking to dissalow liftoff, like you disable certain technologies.
Since you're on installation terrain you probably need the buildings for upgrades or something, if you needed them for building buildings, you could constantly give them back and forth between they're human owner and a computer player. With hyper triggers it'll happen so fast that it will only react in the peon's build menu by the buildings always being buildable, well that works if you create and remove them at least, so I assume it works with giving back and forth.
That could also work if you needed to build units from unliftable buildings, but wait...
allt he terran buildings you build stuff from are liftable. so nevermind about that.
But the first thing works.
What exactly do you need the buildings for?
Upgrading units. I fixed this with using StarForge and creating some Null Terrain on the installation terrain. What the Null Terrain allows me to do is have a trigger where I can destroy all lifted buildings and recreate them on the null terrain. The Null Terrain is landable.
There is no way. if you try to repostion a building wont it say example: Command Center Unplaceable??
He just said that you can build on certain null tiles. Its been said many times before in the thread; I suggest you read it before replying.
Disable the buildings that the player shouldn't actually be using, and also can give 3 buildings which they use. So if they lift it off, they have "3 strikes" (rarely is that mistake made 3 times).
you could make it so when the building lifts off it gets destroyed and you have a text message (dont lift of the buildings!) and create a new one.
or just a begining at game say (DO NOT LIFT OFF BUILDINGS)
that might work

The first tile in any row of tiles that only contains one actual tile (the rest should be null) is always buildable. So there are tons of buildable tiles in the Installation tileset, but they all look the same.
I probably shouldn't say this since I'm too lazy myself to do the research, but I have a faint memory of the liftoff ability being available in an earlier version of starcraft. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I dunno.
About the strikes thing, I would just remove the building and make a new one so it looks like it didn't lift off because it becomes in transit immediatley after pressing button. Then it looks like it hasn't done anything except be unclicked. If you have no warnings or w/e and it infinite, they should get bored pretty fast.
If you have someone owning a sprite of a builfing, does that become a cog in the tech tree, like having a sprite Factory letting you make TSarPort, or Sprite Science Lab for full upgrades. I was just wondering, because that could be useful since you can't disable a lot of Terran buildings with triggers.
First, don't destroy the building, just remove it. You can also stack buildings that can't lift on it because of that lift/remove trick. If you lift, the terrain where the buildings are can be built on again. Well you can either use null terrain or that buildable tile.
No, if they lift on installation, they can only land on those extra tiles Bizzard never totally deleted and therfore were never made unbuildable, or null. I haven't been able to make it land on the same terain again.
So you can create buildings back on it, but cannot land buildings on it?
