I think it does get funny when people start dishing out parts of their map into different divisions. I find it very hard to make a co-map, if its a rpg -- impossible!

Unless you can express your feelings very well, you will not be able to tell another person how you want your rpg to feel, or what mood to put the players in.

I don't get it, why the "best" rpg map makers? [move]IF THEY MADE RPGS WHAT ARE THEY DOING WITH STARCRAFT?[/move] As I was saying, I thinks its called RP makes for Role-playing maps and not role-playing game maps...

We need a program that can change a text file into triggers, then you could just insert the different parts, and you would be able to have multiple people working on the same map triggers. You could also have prefab trigger systems for people to use, like minerals for kills or stuff that people use all the time. You could script it exactly like in starforge, right?

That's what starforge is for. Go write some triggers in notepad then copy them into starforge, it all works. Of course they got to be the correct format, but that's exactly what it does.

And you can use SC trigger to make kills to cahs triggers for you.

I know you can copy text into starforge but you can only make 1 triger at a time like that, not a whole system. I ment that you could have prefab systems and just fill in the blanks rather than make them from scratch. And if someone else is making triggers for you, you can copy all their work directly into your triggers. (actually copy it into a text file, that you can change directly into triggers)

I see what you mean, but you could just put type conditions, then actions, then conditions, then actions, and so on. THe only difference is you'd actually have to copy the text instead of what you're saying and having it automatically converted. THat'd be useful I'd think.

If you want people to make maps for you doesn't that mean its their map and not yours?

In a way yes, basically it sounds like he has an idea and thinks it's best he have someone who has exceptional skills in the areas he is weak in.

I dont want people to make maps for me i just think it would be useful for editing triggers.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gowr on 2004-09-07 at 19:00:40
So what he's saying is A) He doesn't know how to make maps, B) He has an idea and no way to creatively present it in a map, and C) hmmm... had to put in a C tongue.gif

Mapping is very difficult to do as a team. One person has a vision for the map while the others might change the vision. A painting is usually done by one person. A collaboration can be hard.

It makes the most sense for one person to do terrain, one person to do labeling, one person to do the briefing and one person to do triggers.

You can do it with GUedit. Although writeing the triggers in pure text isn't suggested. Also SCM Drafts trigger editer seems to be the same way (or will be). In fact its just like GUedit's triggers except it has a browser thing and they intend to do autocompleat functions and stuff like that.

This way i see it, What will you learn from people doing work for you? You will learn nothing and you will always expect help from someone to help you with your map. Better to make it yourself and do trail and error only way you will learn how make a good rpg. How i did it and now im good rpg map maker ^_^

since you guys don't seem to be wanting to help, i have decided to trash the idea.

PS. To: Bolt Head

i have creatitive, the idea for the map was from the my stroies i wrote on my own, but if i made the terrain for this map...IT WOULD LOOK LIKE censored.gif , i suck at making good terrain, the only map i have ever made with even half-way decent terrain was yellow turban fortress
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Screwed on 2004-09-08 at 02:49:28
go ahead, trash it ^_^ oops that was harsh. Try doing things youself, I actually like doing maps with others as well.. but I always know their reactions (like how they responded to this thread). However I have actually DECIDED and FOUND someone to work with in a map, but it never got started, but it was nobody's fault.
