Starting a new project, I had made a Turn Based Battle system a year ago but it got lost in reformats, so now im taking what I had experimented with and making a fullblown MASSSIVE rpg, Here's the Plot so far.
Plot: You take on the role of Either Good Or Evil alignment, as Good you are adventuring heroes and as Evil you are evil henchman doing your masters work. Each side has 3 slots, but each side only has 1 actuall party, the other slots are for party members which the other players play as. But the story line has many many different ways to go, each sides story line changes on what decisions the opposing side makes. IE, If the evil side destroys a town that the good side was souposed to deliver a special item to then the goodside has to help the town rebuild and hope the recipient of the item is alive or they can take a different quest from a different town. After a few hours of gameplay (Depending on the choices of each side) the 2 sides will meet and have a final showdown for .......... well, you'll have to wait for the map to findout what they end up fighting for

Turn Based Battle System:
-> Combat similiar to FF7
-> Each party Member with unique spells and abilities
-> Over 20 different possible party members ( Players 3 and 4 can take control of these)
-> Special Artifacts to collect will give abilities (IE Heal, Fireball, Ice) Not the spells going to be used, but you get the idea.
-> Intriquet tie in with the story line
-> A new type of "Limit Break" Name and actuall way of using not determined yet
-> 3 Party Members supported
-> Possible Items being equipped, need to test my theory first, will be updated later if I choose to impliment it.
-> After the map is released Im going to release an SDK with just the Turn Based Battle Engine on a 256/256 map for others to use/learn from.

How long will it take you to complete? Don't need an exact date, just an idea.
Wow...sounds like it's gonna be hard to make...maybe you should make a weapon shop so each player could buy different weapons...like in Final Fantasy Tactics for GBA
How would you do that? If they were each differant units that'd waste way too many units. There wouldn't be enough room for a decent number of enemies.

You will be able to have normal units join your party, and if you're evil, MAKE them join your party. Itll be based on your Constitution as Good and your Lvl as Evil.

MOVING TO NEW AREAS
You need to set a number to the different areas of the game. When in a new area, set P8's MINERALS to a number. The battle system does NOT read 0.
ITEMS
Items are noted as death counts of said item for Player 8.
Example:
Party has 3 Potions... this is recorded by Angel Dust deaths for P8
Items stashed cannot exceed 20.
Example:
Party has 6 Potions, 9 Black Tonics, and 5 Black Stardusts...
The party has gotta toss an item to get somthing new.
AGILITY
Agility determines how often a unit acts. Lower value = better Agility.
Agility is marked using death of Protoss buildings for Player 8.
E = enemy A = ally T = top M = middle
B = bottom L = left R = right S = summon

RANDOM ENCOUNTERS
Random encounters are done by randomizing 2 switches and a timer done with Player 8's gas.
Note: Enounter timer doesn't decrease if the party is standing still.
Note: When the timer reaches zero, the battle starts, no questions asked.
To ready a random encounter, set P8's gas whenever you goto a new area.
I recommend setting gas to roughly 400, that gives them time to move around and whatnot.
COMBAT ARENAS
The arena the party will battle in will be set by critter deaths for P8.
Critter deaths are either 0 (not selected), or 1 (selected).
Warning: The battle system will desync if more than one area is selected!
Rhynadon = Ruins
Bengalass = Caves
Scantid = Jungle
Kakaru = City
Ragnasaur = Not Set
Ursadon = Not Set
ACTING IN COMBAT
Attack
- Not sure what will be used to target, maybe a defiler or corsair.
- Unit walks to enemy (if melee), or within attack range (ranged) then gets a
few seconds to deliver attack. Then moves back.
Item - Items... you know, healing and the like
- Items explained under appropiate comment
- List items by showing one line at a time per item in stock
- Use same targetter for selecting item's target as attacking targetter.
Magic - Spells, abilities, and anything else
- Was thinking of a skill tree style deal, like d2. More work, greater payoff.
- Magic is mostly for you to decide.
- Target same way as items and attacking
ATTACKING RANGE
Each character/merc has a certain range, either Short Medium or Long.
Short = Cannot attack from back row. Cannot target back row.
Medium = Can attack from back row. When attacking from front, can target
either row. When attacking from back, can only target front row.
Long = Can attack from back row. Can target either row.
Zealots, Firebats, and Zerglings are examples of Short range.
Marines, Dragoons, Hydralisks are examples of Medium range.
Ghosts, Reavers, Upged Hydras/Hunter Killers are examples of Long range.
PARTY ORGANIZATION
Use of the Civilian and the units on the white protoss beacons allows the
party to be organized to have short/medium range or strong units up front and the others behind.
It's very simple. Civilian moves down, units are given to appropiate players, then when everything is set, civ moves back up.
One unit per beacon.
When setting units on the battle field, read from the toss beacons where the ally units go.
AND THE REST OF THE STUFF
There's a burrowed drone sitting between the two magic lists. Move it wherever you want, but exactly 1 p8 drone MUST be on the map for the battle field setup to work properly.
when changing or adding new battlefields, make sure the battle area locs are the proper size, that is 19x10, and the units are arranged properly... move the centered locations over a group of marker units to get the idea of the layout.
Also, make sure any doodads that cannot be walked on are on the OUTER edges of the area location... this keeps from movement problems. That leaves 3 grid on the sides, and 1 grid on top and bottom.
I remember TEC's first TBBS... Land of Dracone. Didn't work, though. Too bad, a TBBS was still new back then.

Haha it sooo did work! Very crapily I might add, but it had turn based combat lol. My 2nd attempt worked great, and now this will work perfectly!

Interesting enough, i'll be more interested in how your plot works, and if i can find ways to trick your system into giving me lots of pointless items!

Your making a turn based RPG? That's awesome, so am I.
I have it so you can have different weapons, retreat (get no exp doing that) use differenet items, and get abilities like speed (you on high ground with SF2 terrain so looks same so the enemy might miss you). The only problem is each turn takes a long time because I'm trying to make it so a gun vs a knife means gun gets 2 shots each time, and timing is hard, but I hope it's cool. Sounds like yours will be .
However mine you know what the encounter is because when you not fighting, you can walk around, and instead of using civs to shoose things, i have an ovie, dropship, shuttle and bunker where you unload things to make choices.
I don't see anything original though...it's just everything cool cramped together

Well seeing as this is a place where people make maps, maybe YOU ought to make an 'origal' map yourself instead of hanging around waiting for someone to make a map for you.
O, and Zerg Playing Dead, I think that maybe you should advertise your map in your own thread instead of using this one.

Well lets see who beats who to the release date
And theres probably going to be massive overhauling of the plot soon, Im still mulling through actuall plot ideas.
well it doesnt matter who finishes first it matters who had the idea first... plus i have witnesses who ive told the storyline to prove i had it first

Anyway sounds pretty good. Hmm a few months...I wonder if I'll still be playing SC since so many games are coming out.
Thats because he kept adding to it. Please don't have a fight over who will do there map first, or argue over ideas. Just give each other the best chance to do their best and just keep your opinions of each other out of this Forum! Its what PM's are for...

I kind of agree though... a single year is a pretty long time to be tinkering with an idea, not to mention years. All I'm going to say is that if you've had this in mind for that long, it'd better be GOOD.

Tec been mapping longtime im sure he had it like 2 - 4 years for idea just never got around to it. Lots ppl like that have ideas never got around to it. Whocares whoever thought idea first, just make goddamn map n stop b!tching at eachother just a map nothing else.
Agreed, I said I didnt care who has the idea first. And moogle's right I have had the idea for a long time just never got to it, but by the time Im done Im sure my plot will have changed emminsely.
