Is it possible to make it look like it's raining in an SC map? I can't figure oout a way to do it. I have tried many things including making cloaked untis attack each otehr, but scouts missiles don't look that much like rain. Can anyone help?

Maybe if you had a bunch of scanner sweeps all over where you want it to rain, and if you wanted it to rain and be sunny at different times make 2 identical areas on your map, 1 with scan and 1 w/o?

You can't create Scanner Sweeps.
You can have Marines attacking burrowed units or something. Have them attacking from high ground where they can't be seen, of course.

Well for clouds you could use hallucinated units constantly being recreated and killed. Maybe use observers moving around too, for the actual rain you know.

Use My old idea:

Display text message:

|...........|.....|..............|.......|.........|....|.......|
|.....|........|..........|.........|........|........|......|...

Without The ( . ) dots, always defilling! Probleme: You can't send a message.. mad.gif

Dying halluicates and obsvs runnign around make clouds and rain? It takes up a lot of obsvs...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by phatdiddy on 2004-09-08 at 20:14:07
It couldn't take up too much stuff assuming it's only raining in like one place, if it's raining the whole map over than it would definetly be a problem.

I like Sessase's text idea.

Cloaked Scouts attacking burrowed lings.
Make lings always heal and use move/remove/place command and always be changing where the burrowed lings are located.

If done correctly it can make a great effect since the scouts attack is blue and sort of resembles rain.

i dunno if this really a good idea or not confused.gif , but u could have some carriers on some raised ground so u cant see them and then put some interceptors at the top of the place u want to rain, and then when the interceptors try and get back to their carriers, move them to where they started again. and if u could u might want to make the carriers owned by players 2 (blue)

Interceptors are also good. The attack even looks better. The downside is you will need arbiters to cloak the interceptors and arbiters can only be cloaked using p161 and you can only cloak one unit using that method.

For little area of rain interceptors are good.

thx cause i was thinking of using a weather sort of system in the rpg that im gonna remake. (it was mine in the beginning to let u know.) and i was thinkin of using that method, but i really like the scout attacking the burrowed guys tho,

I like the idea of using obs going out from a spot to make it look like a splash, as for the rain, Use scout bullets. smile.gif

Well if you are in tight narrow areas have valks attack units from one side of the path. The missle jets kinda look like rain, but you have to be in a very tight area since the attack of the valk isn't very long.

Killing Kakarus Make rain effects dont they?

But before that, they do this little explosion thing which looks nothing like rain.

Killing and creating Kakaras constantly would create lots of lag durring the game. But it would look cool. cool1.gif

It wouldn't look cool, it would look like a bound, no one would make the connection.

Clokr_ showed me in an effects map an effect Dabbu made where observers (at least I think they were) would flick their shields as if being attacked, but nothing was nearby visably (or audibly) to attack them. I never did learn how that trick worked, but if I were to add a rain effect to A&O that is what I'd use.

Mobile shield archs, tux im suprised you don't know how taht works.

All it is basically is moving the observers somewhere while being attacked, preferably by alot of corsairs.

It looks pretty cool, but in my opinion nothing like rain.

To get the best rain effect, follow these instructions.

First, use triggers to cloak a bunch of marines and mute unit speech.
You will need to know the advanced method of cloaking marines to be able to cloak them properly.
Then place a bunch of spider mines for an enemy player.
Move each cloaked marine over the spider mine locations, making sure the spider mines HP is always changed to 100%.

If you have done it correctly, you will get an awsome rain effect, no shooting sounds, and no units in sight.

Owner of the marines: computer
Owner of the spider mines: a different computer

Make sure both computers are unallied with each other and allied to all other players.

That could work, but I'm curious, v=can you cloak a scout with the advanced cloaking method, or will it crash. I could use muta or rines cloaked, but scout would be nice if it did work because I don't want arbiters everywhere.

How do you cloak units with player 161?

And whats that observer effect, I mean what does it look like. I like the cloud ideas, but all my rain ideas have been really crappy. You guy's are great though. Scanner sweep thing could work if nothing wroked better.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2004-09-09 at 18:09:47
No, you can't cloak scouts with the advanced cloak method, and player 161 isn't a good idea. The marine effect is still better than the scouts because rain isn't blue or white, neither is water.

Isnt the rain like.. orange?

That'd be kind of weird, unless it was in the future with lots of pollution..

Or its raining fire..

A marine shot is the colour it should be, black. Rain is see-through, so you only see shadows and such.

Black? I always see orange...

The only good way for raining effects is cloaking marines attacking lings that moves into random spots every few seconds. cry.gif And yes, I remember it being Orange, not black.
