I know this must sound really really wierd but after getting my first map done i just havent got the motivation to start the RPG that im planning

...if someone could give me a few encouraging bits and pieces i would really appreciate it.

Go let's go, go let's go!
By the way: If you can post a thread about your map, we could certainly give you more motivation

Who do we appreciate?
TheCasbah?¿
Screw it, I'm calling a real cheerleader.
Here's my philosophy to map making:
Im sure that about 95% of you map makers out there just LOVE to get a certain map done but, as TheCashBah says, most people dont have the motivation. Same with me, and im some other great map makers feel this way sometimes (correct me if im wrong).
Over my 4 years of map making, i've found a way which can help me overcome this situation. When you make maps, you usually have a "rhythm" going. Once you start, you'll be engrossed into your work. You'll be concentrated, focused, and you will do your work with high quality. The hard part about this is actually starting up your rhythm and keeping it at a steady pace. If you break it (such as stalling, dreaming about girls, etc.), then u'll lose it, making you feel unmotivated. The key to making great maps is having a good map making progress. Trust me guys, i think it works. Even if it comes to like really big maps like rpgs, plan out what u will do and dont think about what you will do, just go by instinct (heh this might not make any sense to you but owell).
Every human being on earth has two selves: the teller and the doer. The teller is basically the nagger, your brain. It will tell you to try and stay focused and work. The doer, really doesn't think; it goes by instinct. Really that's how you get things done. So when making maps, if you keep telling urself "ok ok, what am i going to do" "do this... do that" "focus", you'll just bog yourself down. Just let your "doer" self do the map making, ignore the nagging of your "teller" self. This proved effective to me, especially when i tried making an RPG.
O and speaking of RPGs, TheCashBag, here's how i would do an RPG:
1) design terrain
2) Player settings
3) Set units, upgrades
4) Place Locations
5) Place Units on map
6) Make Triggers
7) Briefing and Extra touchups last
Well that's my philosophy and yes it might be stupid but owell, i hope it helps...
i need good motivation also... REALY GOOD!
most of my maps are impossbile or lag too much so i dump them =)
some have unfixable bugs / corrupted xD
My thought is: If you don't have the motivation, don't make the map. Mapping is for fun.

Why can't people understand this. Nowadays it's like, "YEA IMA BECOME MR. SEXY MAPPO WITH MY UBER MAP OF DEWM!!!11one!1!"
Fame should never be sought for, only received when unintentionally.

I got fame unintentionally when my friend's "Baseball" map got popular

I mpa because I like to make stuff. I don't care if someone will see it. I don't care if it will be liked or not. I don't care if I finish it.
I only know one thing: I like to make stuff thats good, even though it's simple or very complicated.
Close all other programs, and get working. Too often I start mapping and an Instant Message or something comes up.
Lock yourself in your room until you finish the map. Eat nothing but twinkies and drink nothing but coffee. That always works for me.

Fatty... Oh yeah, I need some motivation on my maps...
I know if ppl think ur map sucks when ur production thread only gets posts when u tell them to says something about it... and they just say "Good luck" for more post counts...
Oh well, I'll post my beta version of Blazing Fang RPG soon... I'll take out battle music cuz it's too big of a file just for Beta...
Well, anyways, The only motivation you can get is to get other ppl to try and convince u to finish it...
here is the best motivation ive got :
scroll down
scroll up
ADDITION: thats basicaly what your doing if you just sit at your computer staring at a blank map wasting your time *i already have a months work of my map done and i still need alot more to go you think im just gonna do that all day NOOOOOOOOOO
lol... that has nothing to do with motivation for map making :\
competition creates motivation, get a friendly competition with sum1 who can make best map

BLEH! Twinkies are disgusting! yum, coffee!
man just work on it little by little like me on my Hawaiian RPG and i dont even feel like making it but i want to make a hawaiian type map cause i am from hawaii >.<
The way I work on my maps is really weird.
I start a map.. quit after about 30 minutes (unmotivated)... do about 7 things of these each week..
Then about 6 months later, I'll find that first map and go "WHOA I REMEMBER THAT" then finish it nonstop

Wow, we have something in common Mind. Except I usually have a few projects I finish.
This is not necesarily the case for other people.
I, for example, map because I just have the not-to-be-disobeyed urge to put my cool ideas into maps, to, if I can, help B.Net by showing them how much they're ignoring, not doing, and because I simply like coming up with the ideas.
i usualy come up with a cool idea, but some unreal bugs screw me and i trash the map
btw a sexy girl would keep me motivated >:]
A sexy girl won't motivate you to make a map.
It will motivate you to pay more attention to her.
a dominatrix

did get the second part

I think this thread can be moved to Garbage.
If you don't like it, close your browser and go into StarEdit. There's your motivation.
