i just played this game and it is an interesting concept, the soviets nuke the white house and invade america, your a plumber turned freedom fighter trying to destory the soviet grip on america. as you go throught and complete objectives and help the citizens of new york you gain Charsmia to influence other freedom fighters to follow you into combat, and you can give orders on single person or squad levels. at most you can have up to 12 freedom fighters with you.
while alright, the game has a few flaws, 1. the manual aim is L3, which is hard to hold down and move at the same time. 2. you can't pick which soldier you are ordering, for instance, you have soldiers A, B, and C. you order A and B to hold ground while C follows you, you want to recall soldier B, but leave Soldier A where he is, you can't do that, if press the regroup button, Soldier A comes, so it is a major set back. but other than those few flaws, it is a good game
Freedom Fighters is an excellent game that uses the 'alternative history' game ploy. Basically, the Soviets drop the first A-Bomb in WW2 and become the dominant superpower. In 1957 the UK becomes communist and in 2003 America is invaded by the Soviets.
You play the role of a civvie turned freedom fighter in New York.
As you play the game, you end up with team-mates who will respond to your commands etc.
You'll find it fun if you like going around with a big team all armed with AKs, SMGs and Shotguns, kicking the asses of countless dumb Soviets.
The multiplayer isn't half bad either, especially if you play with 4 players.
It's out on PS2, PC, Xbox and GC if I remember correctly. It's made by IO interactive (makers of Hitman) and published by EA.
