As with lots of people, I wonder...
Wtf is wrong with swearing?
I can understand avoiding a topic or description of something that someone detests or is disgusted by, but usualy if we censor ourselves, it's either by saying something synomenous wih the swear word or just changing a couple letters...
Does anyone here understand what the problem is?
i think some people just take offence to swearing and some dont, it all depends on who your talking to
this is why swearing is offensive, fu.ck this topic - this is bulls.hit, why did u bast.ard ever create a gay homoesexual crap on this topic, its so damn obvious u mor.on little Whore!
Get it now? that is why it is offensive. The problem is people have an automatic response to swear word as being the below. They get anoyyed by being told that, it is a word that means:
I disrespect you.
I hate you.
I insult you.
I find you as a joke.
I find you annoying.
You are my slave.
By saying the swear word f*** . it's a same as saying
"o u cow, i don't like that willie of yours, i really think your mum shouldn't have made you and she should go commit suicide.. o wait, maybe you don't have a mum but 2 dads and a chemistry set. I laugh at the way you walk, you should get outa my sight.. RIght Now!" I haven't put a swear word in the above but that just pretty well does the same thing as a single swear word.
Why is it bad? Because it's very annoying, offensive, get u into alota trouble
Which my post is soon to be edited...
To the older generation of our times swearing was never part of way brought up. Nothing wrong with swearing just way you use it, Example, Saying to cop " F u c k you mother f u c king pigs. " kinda not proper way really talk to cop (even so der jackasses) Really everyone pretty much swears these days, but somewords i dont count as swearword but others do like word " Bloody " ? how fu cking hell that swear word? no bloody idea mate. Swearing is part of whom we are if people cant deal with it, Can go fu ck themselfs up the ass!
Lol... Fun that you mention that, the french language is reknowed for having the most swears (as well as having the most fearful insults

). Rich language = rich swears. Most of them are religiously-directed anyway...
Around here, swearing was KINDA a little bad... Like 7 or 8 years ago. I remember I couldn't even swear or I'd get punished; today, with religion literally getting put away but our generations, you can pretty much swear when you want (although you shouldn't abuse it).
I don't think that english makes a difference between insults and swears... Not that I know of. When I speak, I pretty much knows the difference between them, but I just can't seem to see it in other parts of Canada... Of course, that brought alot of problems since I didn't know what was good or not; Calling some girl :censored:es (which I learned it was a VERY offensive statement in english, and quite okay in french). Or from yesterday... Calling Mike a pervert. Either he was playing a joke on me, or I just unintentionally insulted him

Yes, the old generation grew up with swear as being holy and fobidden. They hold the positions of power and are trying to bring us up this way. My mom gets hell of pissed off when I say things like stupid, idiot, screw, and loser. LOL.

Swear words are usually just used to express anger or emotion. Without swear words, how can you show people you are mad? Talk about your feelings? Not happening.

That's a good point.
Careful Templar, or you'll lose your 0 posts a day.

I just see Swaer words as just another word. Who came up with the Word Fu.ck. And then said is a very bad word. same with all swaer words. They look just like another word to me. Thats how i see it.
Swear words just aren't accepted by higher society. That's why they're bad.
People will make assumptions about you if you swear a lot. They will think you are lower class, uneducated, a townie etc.
I swear but only very occasionally.
And what's that about French being a richer language than English?
Last time I heard, there were only 100,000 words in common use in French and no equivalent to a theasaurus.
English has something like 238,000 words in common use, and many more technical words and sophisticated words that aren't used as much.

Captain Will did you also calculate that English borrows almost half of its words from other languages. and Technical words lol, every scientific name for an animal is Latin, which is the same for a lot of other scientific terms.
"Swear" words are not bad its just the way one uses them that makes them bad. WQho cares if they arent accepted by higher society, what percentage of the population is part of this "higher society" ? around 10% (whoop de do).
Some people take offence to swear words while others dont, after all I could go find fu.ck along with most other '4-letter' words in the dictionary.

I could hardly care more if you were right or not... Even if you are, these "sofisticated words" you're talking of aren't used by most people. French has more possibilities, you can play more with words... English is "richer" cuz 70% of the world knows english... I think a new word is invented each day or something.
Anyway...

Less than 1%.
Swears are called "swears" cuz someone decided it was gonna be like that... Religion is "sacred", so you can't use 'em. Sexual tems (f@#&, bi@#%, pu@#?, etc...) are also considered bad, some "we" just decided to place them somewhere they belonged (who said they were right anyway?
why is it even necessary to swear to get a message across? some words themselves can be vulgar or dirty, but just swearing for the sake of it is disrespectful, distasteful, etc.
Swear words are bad because society deemed it so. For some reason many people decided that whatever word was a bad one, so it eventually spread everywhere, and everybody thinks that it is bad. In my opinion swearing isn't bad, even though when I hear someone say one of them, I notice, I just don't say them because I know some people get offended.
and the thing about swears being the best way of showing emotion, I don't really think that's so.
He wasn't saying that it's the best or only way, it's just a quick, 1 syllable, 1 word way of telling anyone in hearing range about your emotion

And also, they can be used in much the same way as "extremely" "super" "terribly" "amazingly" "outstandingly" etc, again, with only 1 syllable!
Curse words would just lose their merit if it wasn't such a big deal. I'm apathetic on this issue.
I swear sometimes..
What I really can't stand are those teachers who like gasp when you swear. "Gasp! You said damn.".
Parents are disgusted at how much swearing goes on in south park, and is a "bad influence" on their children. They refuse to admit that swearing is a part of growing up. I honestly think south park is based on real life.
Adults seriously need to learn that what we see as "bad" and "good" is changing. A good example of this is girls clothes.

My friend and I do that. When we hear someone swear we gasp and put our hands over our mouths :/
A good portion of my school swears regularly and lots of teachers don't really care too much.
i swear a lot with friends but not like during classes cuz teachers will get pissed
i dont really take offense to swearing and i swear so much that it dont really mean much lol
It's not my fault if you lack the intelligence to insult me with more creative terms.
The problem with swaering is, if you say "F U" and give the finger to everyone who pisses you off in even the most minor way, there's not really much more words to express any more intense emotion.
well when i curse and use the f word its mostly like wtf not f u or what the hell most of the time when i curse its not even to insult ne1
as spongebob says "sentence enhancers"
maybe some one find those sentence enhancers a little bit too strong... I have no idea, when did they come up with "cuss words"?
P.S: I read an article in my english class about banning a lot of words from magazine and news paper use, including fried chicken. Fried chicken? WTF?!
<-Still too lazy to read most of the other posts.

Smashy Smashy

So, as I was reading the topic, something hit me, if we all just said, "Hey, these words aren't bad anymore." then we'd be able to use them, and no one should be offended. Well, some people will be, but yeeah. But we'd be able to use them anywhere, and not get in trouble and what not, and so alot of bad things wont happen. For example, a kid at the bustop next to mine said to someone else, "F*** you" The kid he told it to ran home, got a brick, and chucked it at the guy who said it. If they weren't bad, then he'd know that he just said like, I don't care or whatever. Curse words are like exponents, like S*** is about 20X worse than crap, Crap to the power of 20, but it means the same thing. Whats up with that?
I have no problem with certain cuss words, but others just send me up the wall, I don't know why...
*warning warning...mildly off topic rant*
The problem with the english language is that it so flat comparitevly speaking. For example, do you know what the orgins of the d word is? Its condemning someone to heck.. (censored, I have to make sure you guys know what I'm saying instead of teh red smilie) or the word love. You can say, "I love pizza" and "I love that girl" and it could be used to the same degree.
so really what I'm getting at is that the english language is over-rated, over used, and has no emotion to it. Hebrew, now thats a language with lots of emotion, same with latan. Or I think so anyways...
HOLY :censored:ING

, THIS IS MY :censored:ING TOPIC. Just kidding, but I do like to swear alot. It comes naturally to me nowadays and it helps you stay focused on things if you get angry. I have never swore at my parents, and they are the only people I wont swear at. Thats good enough for me.
