I haven't used this in a long time but here goes...
  • Download BMP2SC
  • Then choose .bmp picture no larger than 128x128
  • Make a map(Don't do nothing on it, it must be blank). The map must be 128x128
  • Upload the map and the picture to the program
  • A list should appear with lots of colors and numbers at the bottom.
  • Go open the map and depending on the color that you want, choose a tile with similar colors.
  • The Tile in the tile pallete should have the coordinates in the Tile menu.
  • After getting your coordinates put the number in the column.(Remember you have do follow some rules with the coordinates that are listed in the program but I don't remember).
  • Click on convert.
  • The map should now have the picture you uploaded.
If you still have any problems contact someone who currently can play Sc. I can't help you on that since I have Pc problems and I can't use Sc right now.

EDIT: Thanks Moose. I knew something was wrong with the name.

i wouldnt bother with BMP2SCM unless u have LOTS of time on your hands or a really simple pic with not many colors cuz giving each color a tile is a pain in the censored.gif especially knowing what color the tile is not to mention getting the number of the tile

Unless ofcourse you're a nerd like me and know what codes to use for certain colors on specific tilesets. I stick to the basic greens, reds, blues, and yellows and use the Badlands tileset.

I do all my pics by hand as well. I only use BMP2SCM when I plan my maps in Photoshop (because I'm on a Mac so I can't just do them in SF right away, thus I decided to plan some maps on a 128x128 image with each pixel = 1x1 tile) and then want to transfer them into map form.

Thats why you convert the image so it has no more than 8 colors. You have to be smarter than the program your using buddy.

yea i was reading about different pic files like jpg gif and bmp and couldnt u make jpg files a smaller file size and it will like combine like colors like uh

Lossy and Lossless
The type of compression we've been discussing here is called lossless compression, because it lets you recreate the original file exactly. All lossless compression is based on the idea of breaking a file into a "smaller" form for transmission or storage and then putting it back together on the other end so it can be used again.
Lossy compression works very differently. These programs simply eliminate "unnecessary" bits of information, tailoring the file so that it is smaller. This type of compression is used a lot for reducing the file size of bitmap pictures, which tend to be fairly bulky. To see how this works, let's consider how your computer might compress a scanned photograph.

A lossless compression program can't do much with this type of file. While large parts of the picture may look the same -- the whole sky is blue, for example -- most of the individual pixels are a little bit different. To make this picture smaller without compromising the resolution, you have to change the color value for certain pixels. If the picture had a lot of blue sky, the program would pick one color of blue that could be used for every pixel. Then, the program rewrites the file so that the value for every sky pixel refers back to this information. If the compression scheme works well, you won't notice the change, but the file size will be significantly reduced.

Of course, with lossy compression, you can't get the original file back after it has been compressed. You're stuck with the compression program's reinterpretation of the original. For this reason, you can't use this sort of compression for anything that needs to be reproduced exactly, including software applications, databases and presidential inauguration speeches.

how would u compress a picture?

I use adobe Imageready, i can select exactly how many colors i want in it.

32 Colors
[attachmentid=1763]

16 Colors
[attachmentid=1764]

8 Colors
[attachmentid=1765]

6 Colors
[attachmentid=1766]

4 Colors
[attachmentid=1767]

2 Colors
[attachmentid=1768]

Considering the size of the minimap and the colors avalable (and how you pick them) i would never use a image with more than 8 colors, but some images can get away with less. For this one i would proboly go with 6, but i would first compare it to what 5 and 3 look like in addition.

For the colors you're replacing you're supposed to insert the tile number - not its location.

To do this, you need to remember the equation "(Ax16)+B."
A is the first number on the location and B is the second. Therefore, for your White color, you'd put (1443x16)+0 to get the tile number.

So, for blue ( [1098 - 1] ) Would Be: 1098x16+1, Right? w00t.gif

ADDITION: Ok, I did it all, then hit convert, and then it said conversion successful after a bunch of numbers were going by really fast, and where do I find the map at? ranting.gif mad.gif

wow you gotta find the right tile for each color it wants you to replace. then do convert. and save the map somewhere.

Ok, Got it to work, but how do i know what the size of my picture is??

Just wondering: since units for players beyond 12 appear as different colors on the minimap, has anyone thought of making a pic map using units from the extended range of players for colors? You get almost 255 to choose from if I'm not mistaken. You could even make animated pics if you're clever (or masochistic) enough.

EDIT- Scm2bsp... now THAT's a program I'd kill for. Converting SC maps to 3d would pwn.
