Uh, let me take a different approach. What this means is:

Are you willing to die for your country ellicts a patriotic response, whereas,
are you willing to kill someone for your beliefs ellicts an absurdity response.

Even though they pretty much mean the same thing, people will give different answers to same questions that are worded differently. If you ask someone how frequently they have fevers, they will a higher number than if you asked them how occasionaly they have fevers. Politicans use such euphemisms all the time. Instead of saying "tax raise," they may say "revenue readjustment" for subtle purposes and to ellict an innocuous response from the audience.

So, now what do you guys think?

Clever and true. And Swap, he's not stating the Iraqi insurgency's nationalistic stance, he's stating the US Army's patriotic stance.

It really depends on my beliefs. I would kill for my deapest belief. For my country, well that depends. For the citizens, yes, for the government, hell no. The government is a bunch of corrupt bastards. They would kill any of us just to add more money to their wallets. The people of the U.S. are just fine with me. I would not die to cause patriotism because the patriotism would cause irrational actions an the patriotism would die down.

The first one is also a bash quote, so your friend may not have made it up.
The other makes sense to me. The US isn't an island, we get imports from canada and mexico, I bet.

Erm...you do realise that 'for your beliefs' is far more vague than 'for your country,' don't you?

They are similar, but not the same. I'm afraid the quote doesn't have the validity (although I guess it has some) or the wit to stand too highly in my list. mellow.gif
