Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShadowSnipe4 on 2004-09-19 at 06:50:44
[center]Today I started a new type of RPG/Defense.
Elevator Defence
Genre
Defence/RPG
Story
You and your squad of marines were sent into a research lab to investigate into the reports of illegal genetic engineering that the company (Futuretech) was supposedly working on. Upon arrival you were permitted into the facility and had total acces to everything except the mainframe. You and your team decide to start at the basement and work your way up. Upon arrival to the basement you discover the evidence you needed (a science lab complete with specimens) but as you start to get back into the elevator to officially shut down Futuretech, you discover that you have been shut out and the controls do not work. The team hacker quickly starts to work at the controls claiming that he will be able to make the elevator rise a single floor every ten minutes, but as he starts working the containment cell at the end of the hall bursts open and a tide of mutant creatures try to kill you and your team.
Gameplay
Work your way up several different sections of the facility by defending your team hacker until he can raise you to the next story. Upgrade to keep up and use special abilities to help fight off the horde of enemies until you rise. There are several types of units you can be :
  • Minigun-can set off tear gas bombs, slow enemies down, poison enemies, plant mines, rapid fire and use "Smart Shot".
  • Comtech-can plant sentry turrets, create barriers, use a radar, use a "Pulse Grenade" and create targets (halucinated units) that can be used to distract enemy fire.
  • Shotgun
  • Flamethrower
  • Medtech
Each unit has a different type of getting points that can be used towards upgrading or using special abilities.

I still have to work on the special abilities for the units and work on terrain also i need to have some Ideas to liven it up a bit.

Suggestions?
Coments?

Sounds like a good storyline and game.
Maybe I'll play it today. I think today is the day I finish fixing my PC.

Sounds great i really love def/rPGs do you have sounds in this map?

Sounds cool, but it seems a lot more like an Rpg than a Defense.

Thats the beauty of it ezday. A defense game with RPG elements, think about it...

All current Defense games are don't let anything pass the end zone. It's basicly pathetic all triggers are copy/paste.

Ths new game will have some more triggers and RPG elements, which will keep the game interesting because it's not all kill the enemy.

If this game is widespread released on B.net and it's made in a prfosional manner all future defense games will probably add the RPG element thus making Defenses more popular and fun.

Soulds like your going from the basement to the top story of the building. You could change the story so that your at the bottom basement level and your working your way back up to the ground floor. I think it would make more sense that way.

How many units are you going to be fighting at a time and how long will each floor take to complete?

What I mean, Beerkeg, is that it doesn't fit under what is now considered to be a Defense, sinc eit's fighting instead.

In defense games, the enemy doesnt attack you unless;
you're unlucky
It's a spercial level
you walled
The enemies are Goliaths/Tanks

I'm not sayng there's anything WRONG with taking out the element that makes a map considered a Defense, just that he his.

Whatever you do, don't make the Shotgun a Ghost. tongue.gif

Aight now I get it Ezday.
By the terms you stated which I consider are correct this would be more of a survival game.

Lol Moose everyone knows ghost is sniper and shotgun is umm... vulture?

You can make a ghost be the flame thrower and make an SCV be the sniper rifle. lol

Im hoping that this changes some things and gets widespread on b.net. Can you believe my inspiration was a window?

I should have put this in the first place, its a one story building that has a lot of underground areas. You start at the bottom and work your way up to ground level.
As for time, each level will take 10-20 minutes. Time increases as you go up. I havent really decided yet how many enemies will be attacking at onece though but it will have a mix of different units instead of just one type at a time.

Why not?

And as for this being a survival type game. I guess it does fit that category better than defence but Ill still call it a defence.

I have a question for you. Right now I have the map size 64 (or whatever is the lowest) for width, and 256 for height. Should I change the map size so that there can be more levels, and if so should I add an outside the building part in which you have to make it out of the area alive?

ADDITION: Okay, I just updated it into a 256x256 map, this is going to be alot bigger than i had orriginally thought. Also should I make it so that you can also skip the elevator and go up the stairs, but in order to get up the stairs you heve to fight the whole way?

Where that it come from...? it supposed to be I'll play SC today maybe...

Good choice on the 256x256 map.

An out side level would be good but an outside level would be better if it was like the enemy throws everything he has to kill you. You go out the door and see it's all quite and you start heading for the truck or whatever. As you aproach a tree at 1/8 part of the way you see one of the lesser monsters and ask yourself:
"Why would such a small creature be all alone outside"
As you walk a couple of more steps you hear an explsion. The door to the building exploded and you have to make a run for the truck. You see endless hordes of enemies running at you.

As you think that your going to make it because you had a good lead in front of them you start seeing that they come from the sides too. You know you can't make it by running alone so you go hit-and-run tactics to be able to reach the truck...

Thats funny, because that is basically exactly what I was going to have. And then afterword have someone radio for air strike and have an airplaine fly over and Drop bombs killing the mutations as it goes.

I just spent a while working on it and I wanted to know, should I make it so that at the third level from the bottom you have to go to another elevator car because of an explosion in the electrical system, and then at around the 9th floor make you have to get something, and have scattered throughout the map puzzles and the like that if you can finish you get special items/powerups to help defend?

I wouldn't imagine any other unit to fit that category except maybe a vulture, but ghost sounds the best fit for Shot Gun.. in my mind sad.gif

Ghosts have very long range, SHOTGUNS DON'T.
*Firebats shoot fire, so does my printer!

I've added a lot and started working on the triggers, now the first level is almost complete and I need to work on the specials though, does this sound good, The units that attack such as shotgun, minigun, and flame get money through kills while the Comtech and Medtech gets money through either finding building supplies or waiting for it to slowly increase, that way the two weaker units still get kills.

Skipped the posts upto, I dunno what.
"Whatever you do, don't make the Shotgun a Ghost. tongue.gif"
Ya, don't make shotgun Ghost.
I hate when people do that.
I mean, Ghost represents an accurate, long-range sniper-precision weapon.
A shotgun is a close-up, blast-everything-to-hell power weapon.
See the difference?
If anything, Firebat should be the shotgun. I've only, ever, ever seen that once in a map.
It was the only Halo map that I saw that showed any sign of intelligence at all.

Fine then, since I already have triggers for the ghost, Ill change his name to a sniper. happy?

Quick Question; Should I have a banning system for bsers, and if so is there a way to make it automated effectively without waiting for the player to die, or have it so that when the player kills a unit owned by a player it bans him and gives the player his unit back. Plausible? or do I have to make it the flawed player controlled way?
