Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Keeping units Burrowed
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShadowSnipe4 on 2004-09-20 at 19:54:09
I have a map where I am trying to get the effect of a probe attacking a burrowed enemy unit. Is there a way I can keep that enemy unit from unburrowing even if its attacked?

I dont know if this will work, but disable burrowing for that player, create a burrowd ling for another player that has burrowing enabled and give to the disabled burrow comp

if it's computer, it's impossible, unless its a lurker

if it's human, then disabling the technology will work (I would think that, unless the computer's AI of "running" still affects the players )

Yes, that will. I think there are two tutorials in the tuts section about this. I'm not sure if this will work but would the unit not move if it was allied to the person attacking it?

Setup:

Enable burrowing for player 8.
Disable burrowing for player 7.

Player: 8
Always

Create one [Burrowed unit] for player 8.
Give all [Burrowed unit] to player 7.

-New trigger-

Player: 7
Always

Turn ON Shared vision for [Player with probe].

We all posted in the same minute, all 3 of us. That's awesome.

Does the permaburrowed trick really only work for humans?

Yeah .. thanks..
Anyway that program let you create your own custom AI Script which could really really make a good opponent or a RPG computer.

i'm trying to say that the player with the burrowed defiler (the unit) I wanted to have them have the ability to burrow.

Does the AIedit have to have you know code or can I learn how to use it easily?

Just found this as a random map making tip
QUOTE
To prevent computer units from burrowing, you can do a few things. You can give them to player 12 at the onset, thought they will no longer be able to attack unless given back. You can disable burrowing for the player, if you don't need it. You can constantly order them to patrol in place in their location

I always thought patrol would just make it unburrow and stay there...am I wrong?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2004-09-20 at 20:31:04
you are correct, and disabling the upgrade will NOT stop a computer from unburrowing, unless there is something I don't know >_<

Try giving it to P12. And making the previous owner unvision you...but then you would still see it....Hm..
You can see P12 burrowed units can't you?

Is there a way to make a unit for p7 attack another unit owned by p7?

AI edit is a Modding tool, and must be used in a Mod. It is easy to use, but it is hard to write a good AI script.

Then forget that, I want this map to be playable without a mod.

I would make a cloaked Zerg Egg. have it attacking that and it won't move. I think disabling Zerg Eggs is fine as long as they're not Lurker Eggs. If you don't want stuff to be able to walk through the beam, then that should be fine.

well, you could use a spider mine instead, unless you want that zerg unit to be seen or something.

What about burrowed hero zerg units? They dont unburrow when given to other units, but im not sure about when they are attacked.

I can do Ai Scripting, it isn't hard after a while, if you make it for a map, used to do it for my Campaigns, it makes it funnier, like you can make them really go at you with strange tactics!

thats the problem ive had on my alien code h. map i made my own trigger so they would go back in burrow forum

I got AI script editor 3 recently, and it looks really complicated biggrin.gif However, you can probably make a burrowing script or something. Or, that idea with the spider mine seems good, as long as it is constantly allied with the attacking player. That way it will not unburrow hopefully, or have probe invincible.

How do you make burrowing scripts in the AI editor?

Whjat kinds of tactice did you make them come at you with? lol sounds liek fun to play around with SCAIE3.

I think the easiest option if you don't understand the AI editor much (like me 'cause I just got it), is to make a disabled zerg egg, or have an arbiter over high terrain cloaking a unit that won't move.

SCAI edit is a MODDING tool. It cannot be used in maps.
