I'm tired of all the halo maps on battle.net that are fun just because you kill alot of things, and thats about it.
Well, i dont have much of an apeal for madnesses, and halo: flood attacks is only fun once you beat it, (usually because you can get several units at the start) or you die (because of a newb, which usually just leaves you wanting to rm and try again).

I've played some halo maps that it seems like the maker just discovered staredit, and cant think of much more than 'halo= 1 super guy (spartan) a censored.gif load of retarded aliens (cove)'

One of an idea that i origionally wanted to do for a map wouldve been to basically replicate the sidewinder map, and try and do it like an arena, we had birds eyes' veiws of that map and everything, we just didnt get very far after that.

So i was bored one day and had an idea for halo, and i thought it was worth screwing around in staredit to put it down, i have to admit it was pretty crappy at first, but now i think its coming along pretty nicely.





What I'm hoping i could get from this post:
*I want alot of insight on what is 'realistic' and whats just too farfetched in my map
*any ideas for unit stat balancing
(keep in mind that Players 4-6 arent finished aka SPARTAN II's)
*How you think my map would feel to the average bnet person
(yea i know some of you will have to sink down several levels of intelligence)

Well, thanks for reading all my giberish and uninteligible bunched up words, i do know that there people from other websites stealing from SEN, so i wont attach it, but if you post here, I'll try and meet you on bnet, and i will give you a protected version.

I dont think my map is really worth stealing but if someone did steal it, id be pissed because i've spent alot of time working on this map when i should've been doing something like studying for a stupid vocab test....

just a thought, but maybe a squad-based halo map?... maybe have two or three units per person, and two or three people per team, and have a couple teams that go at it...

if youve ever read any of the books like i have and they are awsome youd kno that when he was a kid he was in a suadron with many other spartans. id have to find the book but one was like chief, another was a sniper, and stuff like that. they died so it wouldnt be the most accurate for storyline.

Actually about 6-12 spartans are still alive. I don't remember all of them but some like...

John (AKA Master Chief)
Linda (Sniper)
Joshua (Ground Expert)
Kelly (Fast Runner)

The ones alive are mostly on the planet Reach.
And Linda was badly injured during a mission on a space platform near reach, She was cryo frozened on the "Pillar Of Autumn".

I forget most of them but if you want I'll go looks for the book.

no they all died. if you read the book they were once master chiefs partners but when they they took the surgeuries to make them faster, stronger, etc. good luck and i will play this if u complete it. most halo maps are wasted on battle.net

Im with you. I have seen many really bad halo maps. I'm hoping to change that with my new map Halo: Pillar of Autumn. Its all about when the pillar of Autumn gets attacked. (You know the first level of halo). Anyway I think making a map of Halo 2 would be cool, or maybe a really good balanced RPG for the First Halo. Well good luck with your map.

I once started a halo map....i soon gave up but i think i had some pretty cool ideas. What i did was i used the powerups and made them the weapons that are always scattered throughout the battlefield. I had all the cov, flood and human units...including vehicles. I was making it like the actual game where you go up to weapons and pick them up and it changes your unit. You can throw grenades (vulture mines) and plasma grenades (reaver shots). You can enter the vehicles and exit them leaving them all hurt or whatever. I wanted there to be an option when the players started to vote on campaign or multiplayer on maps like blood gultch. I quit because i don't have the game halo so i wouldnt have any accurate dialouge from the game =/

The flood are strung out throughout the map, spawning at about 10 different places.
the 10 various spawns give P8:
Infection form (broodling)
Carrier form (infested terran)
Warrior form: Covenant (hydra)
Warrior form: human (infested kerri)
*Warrior form: marine (infested duran)
*Arial Kamikazie (Scourge)
*Perry (Overlord)__for transport over cliffs and small bodies of water
*Terraformer (Drone)__ Allows for flood to build sunks to gaurd spawn areas
the * means i just added it in because i felt like it, and it adds more varient to the flood so tongue.gif

"There are no other organisms on the Halo large enough to be utilized for creation of other Warrior Forms."

Blue plated elite (Zealot)

The flood can build nydus canals, sunks, spore colonys, and thats about it.
if the flood lose a spawn point, too bad, thats why he has so many to begin with.

The covenant get cannons, but they cant build censored.gif .

*there is an area where theres tunnels and such where minerals have formed, so everyone should fight for it.

The marines will have an AI to try and mine from the cave area, and will try and claim ownership of the mines.

I think you should make the Warthog a Goliath and use the Vulture as a Ghost. I also think you should use a dragoon as an Elite [Plasma Rifle] because they aren't all melee in the game. Also no Master Chief units? Master Chief [Pistol], Master Chief [Shotgun], Master Chief [Plasma Pistol]? You say that the humans are computer right? So why not make it to where the player controls Master Chief and fights along side the humans? Just a thought. And if you do that give him grenades because grenades are awesome!! =D

wait so this is like a melee not an rpg? im all confused and i think you should make an rpg of like assult on the control room not a game where you can build.

well, P1 and P7 are the marines, and the marines own the bases, and the SPARTANs go out and fight, so they DO fight along side eachother.

The 'Master Cheif' is the "last SPARTAN II"
I used the game as more of a guidline and not limits, the only people who will be able to build censored.gif would be the flood (to defend spawn areas), and the computer players (which are the marine encampments), so its still more of an RPG.

I tried matching the things from the game into the physical characteristics of the starcraft unit, not just soley their attack characteristics, a mapmaker did that, as a mimic of the first level and the 'Master Cheif (Plasma Pistol)' was an archon, the 'Master Cheif (Plasma Rifle)' was a dragoon, and the covenants were the hero units...
I find that the covenant have plenty of units, so i dont think they really need the ghost.
I did think of using Tassadar as an 'Elite [Plasma Rifle]' and maybe even the hydra as an 'Elite [Needler]' but the covenant players have about 9 units, 8 of which they spawn, and 1 of which they have to build, the SPARTAN's have six options of units to throw at their enemys, while the flood have 8 units they spawn.


I'm already running into problems where the covenant carve through the flood too easily, giving the covenant more options versus the flood would seem unfair and unbalanced, since i already stretched the flood units to the max, i dont want to do it.

I wouldve replicated a halo level, but the levels are either too long, or i just couldnt replicate them right with starcraft period.
1st level, could be done in installation, or space platform terrain.

2nd level, how to do the wierd structures/platforms and tunnels?

3rd level, badlands/twilight? terrain, space terrain (maybe split the level into two maps?)

4th level, its already been done, but you could try it in badlands...

5th level, Assault on the control room, its too big to put on 255/255, and in starforge when u increase the size past 255, you cant edit the terrain, and what about when you were inside? how you going to make the bottomless pit? and make it look good?

6th level, gunna haveto split the level into two maps, jungle terrain, installation terrain or space platform terrain for the flood portion...

7th level space platfrom terrain seems like it would most fit.

8th level, gunna have to split into snow and space platfrom terrains

9th level, jungle terrain or even twilight,space platform terrain,

10th level, installation, or space platform terrain would seem the easiest


In every level, theres atleast 2-3 things that you can not replicate/emmulate with starcraft period, so if you do without them, the player wouldnt recognize where the he** he was, and would make the map seem out of place.




thats why i didnt replicate a level/mission, itd take too much work replicating it than it would to do anything else.

I've seen in a map about where the gernade was a scourge, it was created as a comp player and went to the nearest of your enemys units, and where the gernade was an infested terran, and that is already in use(for the flood, and im not going to take anything away from the flood, unless its for a VERY good reason).

What should the gernades be, if i add them in.

I could give the SPARTAN's a rocket launcher, whihc could be an arbiter, or a gaurdian, cloaked, (using P161 for the arby) and give the SPARTAN a civilian so only the air unit he has will attack. I dont think i should add it in since it wont have any splash, but its an idea none the less.

one suggestion- dont let the flood be able to build anything. just have preplaced units or spawns.

You know how to make reaver shots appear at locations right?

you said you dont want to add more flood because they already have more than the humans? Humans can have lots of weapons too: Warthog (rocket warthog too =p) Tank,Dropship,Pistol,Shotgun,Sniper,Rocket,Assault Rifle. And your flood carrier type are infesteds right? You should make a trig where when one gets close to a enemy that it explodes creating several infection types. Thatd be awesome

i got the book, and im reading it.
i found out about seraph fighters, theyd fit the corsairs, in my mind, but i cant use em in my map unless it is a space terrain (the atmosphere is too hot for them?)

you should read the books and use some of that to incorporate into it... but dont do just halo 1 also make halo 2 part of it and maybe add deathmatch side arena if a player dies or something and u can fight with other dead people

player one should be green
u could break it up into 3 parts (master chiefs training, halo, halo2)
dont let it suck

yea, for the most part, im basing my map off of halo 1, master cheifs training took place on several differant worlds, even the occaisional asteroid.

there were about 100 SPARTANs, not just SPARTAN 117 (Master Cheif).

Theres three players who can be spartans, im trying not to limit them, but not to give them too much stuff to do compared to everyone else, im trying to keep the map balanced as much as possible.

I did change the covenant names, and added two units the covenant can have, i deleted the prophet, because it just doesnt seem to do anything in the game as far as fighting goes.

i used tassadar and aldaris for the two elites w/ fuel rod cannons.

The elites had too many armor color in halo 2, so i changed the elite names to something like this:

Lowly Elite

High Elite

Special Elite

I think htat might summarize their rank rather than:

Blue-Plated Elite

Red-Plated Elite

Gold-Plated Elite

I am still basing some of the stuff from my map from halo 2, but there wont be any weapons from halo 2 exect for the ones that were in halo 1, such as the fuel rod cannon.

I added a mass for the flood, it has 4500 hp, its the queen, the only ability i plan to give it would be i guess is ensnare.

The covenant get a mass too, the masser is a carrier, it can only have 4 intercepters, and the intercepters are very weak, and build rahter slowly.


Im kinda pondering wether or not to change the Elites to the Brutes, the brutes appeared in the book inbetween halo1 and halo2, on the command center the [I]unyeilding heriophant, around reach.

NOTE:
Reach was not completely wiped out, where 117 finds the rest of his surviving comrades and dr. halsey.

The Fuel Rod cannon wasnt in Halo1... Well it was was but you couldn't wield it. Only the Hunters could hold it.

PS: You forgot the Crome Elite.

The fuel rod cannon was in the PC version, and the Xbox version, only in hte PC version could a spartan use it, but in the xbox version, the spec ops grunts use the fuel rod cannons, in the later levels, i remember on legendary, very near the beggining, you run into several grunts weilding fuelrod cannons.

Im not going to name the units specifically towards the SPARTAN's names, i changed the hero templars (Tassadar / Aldaris) which were elites w/ fuel rod cannons, to brutes, since my map hypothetically takes place between the two halo games, and the brutes do show up before halo2, in the book; first strike.

The hero templars names are now:

Brute [Brute Shot] (Tassadar)

Brute Leader [Brute Shot] (Aldaris)

In halo 2 the brute leaders have a flag kinda thing on their shoulder, i think their attack looks more like a gernade over a fuel rod cannon, but i guess that line is very fine.

This will be interesting to see if someone is devoted enough as they say to actually finish a map based after Halo. People have tried time and time again and no real successes have hit starcraft gaming yet... Good luck is all I can say.

they should tell u in firststrike or in halo2 y there are no other spartans i mean at the end of firststrike which is when ur heading back to earth the follow spartans are alive

the brutes without flags dont have brute shots(i dont think i cant remember its been a while) i think u should use the second 1(not tassadar) for the brute that started the covenant fight the guy with the hammer that u fight to beat the game
