When is someone going to make an editor that has everything that Starforge, Star Craft X-tra Editor, and SCM Draft have to offer, which would basically just be starforge with easier to use triggers, and an undo button... alas. closedeyes.gif

Halphonse, take a chill pill.

Blackness, you have any programming skill to do this?

the new scmdraft basically replaces starforge.

We need all the good things from each editor put into one editor.

I would like Starforge, with the ability to do the following:

-Rid the program of all Run-Time errors. And all bugs.
-Ability to switch to old and new style trigger system.
-Show pylon aura / creep / unit attack range
-Good isometric terrain placement
-Better minimap display
-Doodad Layer
-Undo/Redo feature
-Ability to drag selected units.

That's all I can think of now, if anyone wants to add more go right ahead.

Yea that would be good.

You can't rid it of them; only use an onError code to make custom error windows that don't exit the program.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by .Coko[CK] on 2004-10-10 at 09:00:40
Maybe enable an instant save option, but wait, with a RunTime Error thats not possible, maybe just replace the OnError with a wav from Starcraft...

You want the editor? Okay. 6 million US dollars, cash. Not enough cash? Can you see a finger now? No? You suck

Joking.

Basically it's impossible Black. Each editor has its unique features, and when you say 'all in one' there is only three solutions:

solution one: just cramp all the base codes in, and give you a program that screws everything up because it's just too messed up.

solution two: Tell us how exactly you want the 'all in one' editor to be like, including the base system, the change over parts, the code conversion...
Although by the time you understand the above terms and can tell us anything, you'd rather to make an editor yourself 'cause you know *exactly* what you want.

solution three: foget it.

bonus solution: Pay me 6 million US dollars, cash.

"starforge with easier to use triggers"

No. That would be the apocolypse for people who don't mind moving their hand slightly more to be able to do things much much faster, not to mention copying and pasting individual actions into other triggers and such.

The 'perfect' editor would have a choice.

Oh, and BTW, do you know how many people want a new editor?
Enough that you can forget the idea and put up with having to switch between editors.

When SCMDraft2 is completed and it has all of the following:
  • Unit sight range
  • Fog of War
  • Isom Terrain (legitimate)
  • Square Terrain
  • Unit placment for player 1-256
  • Two types of triggers (Dropdown and text)
  • Convert Triggers to .TXT file (and Vice Versa)
  • Change map propeties options (Size, Race, Forces)
  • Undo button
  • Free sounds (Including Campaign) available in triggers and briefings WITH preview
  • Text preview (for overlaps and such)
  • Save and Load the following:
    • Triggers
    • Mission Briefings
    • Unit placement (by layer)
    • Locations
    • Terrain
    • Sprites
    • Fog of War
  • Player colors true to tileset IN editor
  • String editor
  • UNBEATABLE protection (password protection perhaps)
  • Working Copy///Paste feature
  • Creep/Pylon Aura range
  • Stacking
  • Running counts of Supply, Psi, ETC

Once there is an editor with all of these options, we will all be in heaven, and mapmaking will be a much more user-friendly occupation.

What else will contribute to the best editor ever?

Want an all-in-one editor? How about you just use all three and swap between them using the main part of X-Tra.

Bah all this complaining about editors, back in the day all we had was Emerald Placer, and that was good enough for me! Lol sounding like my grandpa now, anywho that would be awesome to have all that in one editor, I say we assemble an elite group of programmers and mappers and we, SEN, create the editor to put all other editors to shame! Freedom! w00t.gif

scmdraft can do almost everything SF 2 can, except triggers. They are both good programs with their advantages and disadvantages. You just have to use them together. An all in one editor would be nice, and scndraft is slowly filling in that gap, but right now its not that annoying to switch editors. Once you know how to use both of them, it doesn't matter that they're separate. Both the editors are very different from each other but are very good together. Cramming all the options into one editor would be a helluva lot of work, although I'm sure its possible.

In my opinion, a super editor would need the following:
1. Undo and redo
2. All players and editable player colors.
3. All units and sorites placeable.
4. Two versions of trig edit, Starforge and Xtra-Edit.
5. All triggers available and can use all units.
6. A help thing that actually works and is up to date.
7. Snap to grid, show pylon aura, show unit sight range, show creep, etc. works correctly.
8. Snap to grid, allow illegal placement, allow stack, etc. can be disabled/enabled.
9. The following options that can be disabled/enabled: Delete Illegal or improperly placed units at start, search for updates, autosave every (input number) seconds/minutes and a debug thing like the beta Staredits had.
10. The terrain placer works perfectly, like in Xtra-Editor and so does the doodad placer.
11. You can also do stuff in terrain like in Starforge. I.e. square tiles, make buildings with terrain like in the downloadable video tutorial.
12. Save .chk and protection options.
13. Does not lose, leak, or accidentaly delete data. (Unless it is totally the user's fault, like hacking the scenarion or tampering with the data.)
14. Perfectly working fog of war.
15. Convert triggers to .TXT
16. String editor
17. The original unit data in unit settings is displayed but can be edited like in Starforge. (I mean the 2nd hp box, you can put numbers in the shields box)
18. Sound extractor with all the sounds (like in Starforge)
19. Display all upgrades and make all upgrades editable. (meaning the unused ones. Do you know how cool stuff like an SCV with "Fusion Cutter: Lv2 Damage: 5+2" to newbies and unexpierianced mappers. It makes the game more interesting.
The following would be cool but might be impossible:
1. Unit attack range editable
2. Spells editable (to a certain extent at least)
3. Unit graphics editable (Like in the WCIII World Editor)

well i guess i should put my 2 cents in too...
Starforge trigger systems can be complicated but if your like me, you can get around.

Thats a good idea to make an editor to put all editors to their demise...I could definately help out with the programming.

I used to have to use Staredit (the original) and still make good maps! Any map can be good, its jsut that if you add cool effects, like sprites, disabled units, square terrain, etc. , that sets it off. Look at Builders and FIghters, Cat and mouse, Archon Tag, and Evovles! They were all originally from Staredit.

well actually a bunch of you are just repeating each other for no apparent reason other than the fact that basically everyone wants more minerals, alas. to answer your question yoshi sadly no i do not, but i wish i did, and basically this is a useless forum that i put in the wrong place and is creating allot of "hub-bub" for no reason. Sorry cry.gif. Although all of this is kool i like TEC_Ghost's idea that we (we being all you 1337 programmers) get together and put this together, if i did have the ability to create my very own SUPER Editor then i would do it in secret and release it only to this website to increase popularity and "koolness" levels. as for iamandragon who said this was all impossible and that a good idea would be to give you 6 million dollars to develop a Super Editor (or use for yourself) i think you are being a little ridiculous it is possible just difficult and an annoyance. Well I am sure that for now we can all deal with switching between 3 editors that do everything we need, and once again I am sorry. Perhaps you can all accumulate all of the kool features that a Super Editor would need and can give them to who ever the dude that made Starforge (i forgot his name) gives the source code to or one of the creators of the other editors.

that was just quoted by me.

As always I am open for suggestions for new features, of course I will decide if they are feasible and when/if to implement them
