Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> Kirby Super Star
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zergling[SK] on 2004-10-18 at 13:33:14
We all remember the old Kirby games and how much we loved them. Well i've decided to make a remake of the best one of those games "Kirby Super Star" (Well that's my favorite Kirby tongue.gif ). Here are some of the things that are going to be in the game...

1-5 Players
1 Will be the famous Kirby and the other 1-4 will be helpers that Kirby can create when he gets a special power.

The 5 Stories, and the 3 other Mini-Games
Sping Breeze, Dyna Blade, The Cave Offensive (I think that is what it is called, don't have the game with me so i will check later), Revenge of Meta Knight, Milkyway Wishes, The Arena, Megaton Punch, and the Samurai.

All on the same map
I will have every game on the same map, so no need to go searching around to find them all...

About 20 abilities from the game
Fire, Ice, Suplex, Parasol, Ninja, Sword, Wheel, Fighter, Wing, Hammer, Bomb, Copy, Mirror, Beam, Plasma, Stone, Mike, and Crash (again I can't name them all because i do not have the game with me).

Absorb enemies
Suck up your enemies, then either swallow them to take their power, or shoot them as a star.

Bosses!
Many bosses from the game!

I just started this rpg a couple days ago, so there is still a lot of work that i need to do...Screenshots, and beta will be out as soon as possible

Try challenging yourself and develop a "platform" system so it can be exactly like the snes game. wink.gif

Oh and also play the music like a "midi", so you can stop the music whenever you want and it will take up less space, though it will bite your string limit depending on how much different pieces of music there is.

U gonna use Dropship?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by qPirateKing on 2004-10-18 at 17:11:33
Well firstly, I really liked the kirby games on SNES and even the one for n64. I tried to make a kirby game a long time ago, but I got stuck because it's hard to design a system that's even remotely similar to the ones found in the game. Hopefully you've found an engine that works. I'd advise you to come up with a good system before worrying about abilities, story lines, etc. Otherwise, this will probably die like all the other under-planned maps out there.

DON'T LET KIRBY DIE.

On another note (and because I'm feeling pissy), I'd like to say something about this post:
QUOTE
U gonna use Dropship?

This is a prime example of a worthless question. Not only is it a yes/no question, it also has no value because you don't specify what exactly the dropship would be for.

Now, lemme ask a similar question:

"Is the map going to be 64x64?"

No wait, don't answer that. In fact, don't answer any questions like that because it'll bury your thread in garbage.

Deathknight what do u mean by a "platform"?

ADDITION: Nevermind, i understand, and yes i have made a platform. There will b bottom levels, and u will have to keep clicking to go up, "jump" if u will. Here is what it may look like

Platform game... you know, like Mario or something.

Like if you unload a certain unit(dropship system), or build a certain unit(building system), or click somewhere, it will make the guy jump. Then there will be other stuff making the guy slow down as he gets higher and fall back down.

This map shouldn't exactly be the "Starcraft Style" map with isometric everthing, and moving around by right clicking. Recreating platform games should turn out as a platform game and not a totally different game.

Deathknight i know what ur sayin, but i want it to b quick and ez. If i add a dropship u gotta click a different unit to jump, another unit to atk, another unit to keep jumping, etc. I just dont want it that u have to have a different guy to continue atking or jumping...

I might use the dropship for something like a special ability for every power but it's still undecided

You could make a system that works like this:

L = location
u = unit

LLL
LuL
LLL

The unit will have an ability like burrow or something.
If unit moves right, do the move thing. If the unit moves up, make it "jump". Etc.

Or, you can make it more complicated and have it like this(remake ssbm??):

L = Location
h = head
a = arm
b = body
g = leg

LLL
LLhLL
LabaL
LgLgL
LLLLL

But kirby would probably only have the body and legs or something like that...

TEH WOOT!
I weas planning on making a K SS game long time ago, to relieve my insane urge to play it since I didn't have it anymore.

Anyway...
""Kirby Super Star" (Well that's my favorite Kirby"
Same, Kirby SuperStar is TEH OWN. It's the only one I've played where you can do several kinds of attacks with the same power.

"Try challenging yourself and develop a "platform" system so it can be exactly like the snes game"

In case you didn't notice, he's advanced.
A Platform system wouldn't be hard ;\
In fact, I'm gonna use one my MEtroid Evolution map.
It'll be kinda awkward, and prone to bugs for a while, but I HAVE thought of a way to get it to work.

Deathknight i kinda get what ur sayin, but what unit do u mean? Surrond kirby, or make a unit at the top that does that for u?

ADDITION: I just need more detail i guess disgust.gif

Just make the movement and attack system with a dropship. You need 8 units anyway.

1 - Up
2 - Down
3 - Right
4 - Left
5 - Shield
6 - Throw power/make helper/kill helper
7 - Suck up power/use power
8 - Jump/fly

And then you could have something where you move the dropship, it pauses the game.

What I meant in my last post was to use a relative movement system... but it doesn't matter. Just think up something. :/

The dropship system sucks and it's a waste of units. It's much faster to use the Building system to build units. That way you can use nothing but hotkeys and not the mouse. To do this, you have buildings, and then building certain units causes the actions to happen. You can use all hotkeys for this, numeric hot keys to hotkey the buildings, and letter hotkeys to build the individual units. I hate the dropship system wink.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2004-10-21 at 21:57:09
So you're saying instead of selecting one dropship, and clicking one unit, you would have to hotkey 2 buildings, press a number, press a button to build the unit, just to make kirby jump? If it was one building, then fine, but there are more actions that just one building can't handle. The waste of units would be the building system, because you need at most 4 unit spaces to make units(and combinations of units to do certain combos), 2 for each building, then there's all those unit requirements, and by the end, you have at least 11 units. The dropship system uses 9.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zergling[SK] on 2004-10-22 at 12:59:22
I was thinking more like just use the dropship for special atks, making/killing a helper, and defending. For moving u would just use ur unit, and for jumping u would click up, and to fly u would have to keep clicking. But if u guys think that something would b better than tell me or else im gonna make it how i just said

u guys are confusing me with all ur talk... confused.gif

ADDITION: Sorry that i cant reply at nights, and only now when no1 is on, but im at a computer at skool, and my internet at home is messed up so i cant get on
