Does this belong here? Anyways, I need to know a program I can make sprites with. And if a gif can be used for a sprite. I need the answers to both of those questions...

Well whatever sprites starcraft uses for units. I plan on eventually making a 2d RTS game. If I ever get out of noober stages of C++. I mean really noober wink.gif

I just need a way to be able to draw a picture and import it into... say SC as a unit sprite.

Blizzard made the SC sprites 3d, they just made the 3d images into sprites.

No they are 2d and does anyone know a sprite creation program?

GRP Converter. You extract he .bmps for each unit, change each from, then comvert them back into a GRP. Use the .MPQ editor to patch SC and run a MOD. Such things can't be done without a mod.

...if you want to make your own, just use ms paint.
"Ack, MS PAINT?!?! NO!!!!!!"-Jen

Anyways, if you want to steal the SC sprites, you need to have an MPQ decompiler/extractor, and GRP converter.

Here's a new quote for ya buddy: "ack, new sprites? nooo!!!"- Cobra

Go open Paint and make a pretty unit or whatever(make sure it's facing up if it's a unit). Save it as a *.bmp using 256 colour. At the end of the image file name add a 0000 or something. Rotate the image to the right a little, save it again but with a 0001. Repeat the process untill the unit is facing down. Download RetroGRP and convert the bitmaps to a*.grp file. Replace any desired unit in Starcraft, or go through the incredibly troubling, impossible, weird, no-one-has-ever-done process and add a new unit to Starcraft.

Or, spend $1000 on a 3-D graphics program (or hack a freeware trial) and automatically build all the unit frames.

MSPaint(my favorite), Graphics Gale.

Those are all the good spriting programs I've used and like.
Though Graphics Gale gets on my nerves really fast.

I know they are 2d, but they were made 3d and they made them into 2d sprites. Any graphics progam can make sprites.
