What we really need and don't have in these forums is a "Map Making for Idiots"
We should compile all of our map making knowledge and make it available to people. I would really like to see some of the more experienced map builders list in easy steps the process of making a really good map. One person, who is really good at making RPGs, could post a "Idiot's Guide to Making RPG Starcraft maps".
Other people could post easy steps to Defenses, Melees, and whatever else. People could give helpful tips to making maps, but the bottom line is that we dont have all this knowledge in one place.
I can figure most out. Good point it isn't all in 1 place
Hmm, most of it is just scattered everywhere. The only thing we don't have is some sort of explaination of what is where and stuff for somebody who's never used StarEdit. Other than that, all the knowledge is easily collectible, since it's all over the place. No need to write new ones, just need to gether them.
Dude the whole site is about that, it's building informations on HOW to do such things. Just search the tutorial database, it's only purpose is that of helping people make maps!!!
What I am saying is that we should have:
-Sorts of terrain to be used
-Good terrain layout
-Triggers to be used
-Races for players and computers
-Details on the above
-Jargon that is used and can be translated
It should really say, in plain English, what needs to be done, excluding no details. It should be written as though the reader has never used a map making program before. And if there is such a creature on this site, I haven't found it. (Maybe I am just stupid, but hey, at least everyone now knows it)
Actually, I am happy to tell you that this is called "creativity", and if you don't want to see 238465 copies of the same map over battle.net, this is a bad idea. Slyence have already written a guide on how to make melee maps. UMS maps are different, you need YOUR own idea, and I don't beleive anyone is stupid anought not to know how to place terrain.
I DO agree there should be a database scanning E-V-E-R-Y triggers existing in order to explain it to people, I don't quite see how you could make multiply guides out of that though...
Somebody could make a big .txt or html file w/ all the necessary stuff. Sure the forums could suffice for more in-depth stuff, but I think a smaller, more general readme-type file would be a good idea.

5. Release it to public and wait for the flames!
Steps Chu takes to make a map.
1. Get struck by completely original and kickass idea.
2. Start on terrain.
3. Either finish terrain, or stop working on map.
4. If finished terrain, start placing units.
5. Either finish placing buildings, or stop working on map.
6. If finished placing buildings, start on triggers.
7. Etc.
Yeah, I don't finish very many maps.

Guys Shadow Paladin is right. I mean no one is gonna look at each and every tuturial probably like 3 and thats all. There is already a guide to making maps and Prima already published the book 6 years ago. I don't think most people really care about Starcraft anymore. Well maybe some.
If this created guide is actually viewed by people and they gave high ratings, we may have something here.
Well if it works...
[HIDE]The guide should be as human as possible. Some people just go all out with this mathematics and it really gets on my nerves to try and understand it. For example :
The hp will equal if a unit attacks:
Enemy HP=Unit'sAttack+Weapon Upgrades+Any special weapon attacks(explosion 50% on light, 75% on medium, 100% on high. Concussive 50% on high, 75% on medium, 100% on light.)- Armor of Enemy, - Shields and Shield upgrades. (Shield upgrades multiplied by shield = Shield minus amount)[/HIDE]
I think that would be a good idea too, just kinda hard to make. In order to make something that everybody universally finds easy to understand etc would be quite difficult to do.
I think we could do it.
It would be have to be composed of high calibur explanations to earn high ratings and whatnot... But if we do pull this off, with shared ideas and thoughts, we can MAKE A UBER GUIDE.
Tazzy's way:
1.Get idea, No matter what idea if it can become a map its OOOKKKK for me
2.Draw terrian designs on paper
3.Once design i like is drawn on paper.Open Staredit
4.Make the terrian layout in Staredit.
5.Get bored
6.Next day, carry on with map, Units placing,Building placing.
7.Do triggering about 30 mins of triggering, Get bored, Go out woth Friends
8.Next day carry on map.
9.Once ONCE if i complete it. Show the world.
Not the best way of making maps. But hay. im a sad man
