This was one of my old ideas, so dont critize to hard since im hardly remebering it.
Take the expanded europe map with a larger middle east section and smaller NW atlantic section.
There are 2 main teams that consist of a couple factions. You have the Knight Crusaders. Which start in europe(stranegely divided one due to the borders at the time.) They also have one faction of the Papacy, which would be the resource collection and distribution faction, also given a few special units and techs. Each faction would have special unique units to their country, forcing teamwork through weaknesses(one might be anti-vehicle/cavalry, another anti-infatry and so on.) They would have a goal of capturing the Holy City.
Then you would have the Arab forces. You would have 3 factions(adaptable). One would be based in Africa, another in the Middle East, and the last in Western Russian. The West Russia 'heretics' and the Teutonic knights would have a special anomisity and would be focused against each other. For every city that the crusaders capture, they get a couple things depending on the city. Some might give resources, units, techs, vision, or other special triggers. The arab forces would have a time limit based reinforcement. Every city that they hold for a certain amount of time each gives them res, specific units, and gets more fortification. This means that the crusaders cannot sit back and mass troops, or they will find them selves quicklky outnumbered.
More to come but receiving suggestions now(remember, not too harsh!
