Whoever has done an RPG map, how did you organize your terrain? Was there an area for all the sub-section type areas?Or did you just have the areas above or below the area your entering?Tell me if i make no sense, or please tell me the best way to organize RPG maps...

Depending on what type of map your making, the size, and what you want, I think everyone has their own way of doing their terrain. The most organized way I'd say is having sidebar(s) for the sub-sections, etc...

Well I'm doing a 256x256 RPG map, and think that 256x256 isnt big enough unfortunitly, and I'd need like 350x350 sad.gif

It's really up to you, though you might want to place minimap pings in order to show players where everything is.

Me myself, I'd like to have all the subsections at the right side of the map.

The first part of the map I had all figured out : , but I'm having trouble making a large area of land seperated from others that looks natural...And the whole right side thing, do you do the real map first then the sub-sections?

Okay, I basically divide up the map into two sections. On one side, it's the exterimaps, on the other, it's the subsections. Usually, a sizable cliff seperates these two areas.

River works too. Make sure you dont use up all the space cause you need room for the item areas and magic areas.

I know I usually have all the ships and magic casting areas at the top or bottom, in this case the bottm, and im talking about divind the actual map, like the areas of land, forests you explore and crap going onto fields and stuff like that...Right now I had a small foresty/field area that leads to mountains then onto the other side of the rocks, where there is an area leading up to a castle, but im hacing trouble making this area contained and not having players leave to another area and missing the castle, im thinking of using water for this.

If you've ever seen my Overmind RPG, the layout was quite simple. Just at the bottom left was a little bunker so the player can defend themselves with the zerg computer, there was a mega base, and 2 corners of objectives. Simple map, somewhat fun and hard.

Congrats.

Make sure theres constant action in your maps. Its surprising how easily players will leave.

Another thing you could do is have revives, and when people die they can stay. That helps a LOT. Don't know why you're forced to leave when dead...
On topic:
Use bait, like enemies. I have terrain problems too. Or you could have some kinda sign, like:
[<Nowhere ^Castle Nowhere>]
lol just a stupid and bad example.

You make no sense, everything depends on the map and the origionality of the ideas your putting into action.

Plan the story first...
