right now wuts the best editor?
i used to use starfoprge 2.1
havent been on for a while so wuts good?
I use starforge/ X-tra editor 2.6
None is the best right now. its just a matter of preference.
I would suggest Starforge for terrain editing and scxe for triggering unless you know how to use starforge's triggers (unlike me

).
starfore is the best if you kno how to use it and if ur gonna do triggers on it dont do the name overlap first cause if u do that, u cant use the overlapped unit in a trigger... if ur not that good with triggers u should use scxe though its easier
Man I hate noobs who think you can't do triggers in SF. Use SCMdraft first for terraining, then use Starforge for everything else. (optional use of SCMdraft for unit placement).
My Suggestion:
Use SF for everything except
Protection. For that use ProEdit.
SF can place sprites, units with id 0-65535(I see that number enough that it's not hard to remember) pure sprites, what I call 'perfect' terrain(say, if you place grass tiles, then you place only the exact tiles you want, only where you want, rather then the randomized tiles that you get from X-tra. That and having 1 tile-thick walls), modifying unit stats(0-65535 damage, negative I don't know-I don't even know how much health, but 800000 works, negative I don't know - I don't know how much max shield, but 30000 works, 1 ckick for colors, REALLY fast build times), awesome trigger editing, and a bunch more stuffzies
i like scm draft2 for terraining and xtra editor for almost everything else because i dont know how to use starforge triggers and starforge sometimes messes up my map and extracts all my sounds.
i can make triggers in starforge but its confusing to me...thats just my opinion..dont flame me...
I use ScXtra Editor 2.5, StarForge, and GUEdit. I haven't made maps for a while, so i'm not sure what most of the "New" things that are out. But, following xbakapeterx, use whatever works for you. If it's complicated don't worry about it

SCXE Starforge Proedit. Thats it.
Actually, I use StarForge v2.1 (Mapping), SCMIE v1.5 (Hyper Triggers) and Proedit 1.4.1 (Protection)
If I'm making an RPG type map then I'll use SCXE 2.5 for triggers, ISOM terrain, unit placements, and then do any touch ups such as minor square terrain blocks, sprites, or anything you couldn't do in SCXE. For defenses/bounds and such I'll make the square terrain in StarForge and the triggers in SCXE... Then any touch ups back in StarForge...
I'm not a big fan with doing triggers in StarForge because it likes to shoot off Run Time errors at me when I'm making them. Plus, I don't like how it adds No Comment to the trigger when creating one, I like to view my triggers without any comments, and then I'll go back and give it a blank comment when I know it's completed.
"Actually, I use StarForge v2.1 (Mapping), SCMIE v1.5 (Hyper Triggers) and Proedit 1.4.1 (Protection)"
Why do you need to use SCMIE for hypers...?
O_o
Just take SF, put in
Wait(0);
Copy, paste, now you have 2
copy, paste those, 4
Copy, paste THOSE, 8
Copy, paste THOSE 16
Copy, paste THOSE 32
Copy, paste THOSE 64
Delete the last 2 lines
Preserve tRigger
Comment
Simple...
This topic was not started to talk about what one you use...Its to talk about wich one is the best to use.
The 'best' one to use is an opinion. All we can talk about is what we use, or what other people think is the best.
Debated over n' over... n' just came back (again).

Starforge if probably the best editor for people who know how to do triggers in it... if you know that... the only think you need else besides proedit.... is scmdraft or scxe for isom (if you are doing that)
I personally like the layout of scxe for the triggers... idk... it might be just because im too lazy to learn all of the starforge stuff...
Wow, a lot of ppl like to use the same editors for their map making.
Like most of them, i use SCXE-2.6, StarForge, and PROEdit.
I can do triggers in StarForge, but it kinda annoys me after being so used to the normal Layout for triggering.
And sometimes, not have to go through each tile for a 256x256 is EXTREMELY easier (in reply to EZDay2).
For Protecting maps, of course Proedit.
SCXE, its pretty ez to use, no experience needed.
So the order of operations goes like this...
1-SCXE
2-StarForge
3-PROEdit
They are all really good programs, but that's up to you whether you use them or not.
-_=LordVodka=_-
Here's what I use.
SCXE 2.6 - Locations
SCMDraft2 - Terrain
SF 2.1 - Unit Placement, Doodads, Triggers
ProEdit - Protection of course

I know how to use the triggers in Starforge but i don't, I don't like the syntax it uses, I think its pointless with autocompleat to abrviate everything. I have trouble visulizing triggers when there in that syntax.
There is only one correct editor to use, the one that gets the job done. Its up to the mapmaker to decide witch one he prefers to use. Its the dumbest thing ever when i get people going "wow that map you made is sweet, what editor do you use?". I find myself wondering do they honestly think it is a good map because of my choice of map editors?
Here's my preference:
Starforge 2.1 -Terrain, Triggers, everything
ProEdit 1.4.1 -Protection/Compression
Hex Editor -Finishing Touches
I use scmdraft for units placement because Sf stacks units too easily and you can't see if tehy will be unplaceable or not, although scmdraft doesn't let you place some units in small areas that do fine there. I also use scmdraft for terrain because it can put isometric terrain after square without screwing up the map, which Sff sometimes does. Other than that, StarForge is the best. After two days with practice on those triggers, I find it much faster than the normal trigger editor.
Of course, like (U)Bolt Head said, some editors won't work as well for some people. if you can't type quickly, you will be very pissed at the SF trigger editor.

Hey, you're right. I've seen some really good maps made witht eh orginal editor and we all know how many crappy bounds are out there made with SF. Having units with 3/2 HP and having strange colors only makes your map better if it compliments the map and doesn't make it look like someone went over doodad happy.
Heres the editors i use:
Starforge: For triggering/Some times terrain
Scxe:Some times for triggering/Some times or terrain
can i ask why everyone hates scm draft 2? its awsome and its a lot better for terrain than starforge and less buggy.
