Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> Why I hate Halo Books...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EzDay281 on 2004-10-31 at 04:22:27
I was going to put this in the Halo vs Samus trhead, but then I realized how off topic my complaint is from that, and that it could be considered spamming, so I'm putting it in garbage.

Here is my own, made up on the spot, Metroid Fan Fiction.

Samus walked upto the door, and watched as its teleportation iris opened into a cube-shaped room of the Chozo ruins.
Seeing no enemies on any of her visor modes, she started walking in.
Suddenly, 20 unidentified creatures behind the walls of the room swung their over-sized arms at the walls.
0.04 seconds after the first one impacted, Samus had turned and aimed her gun. 0.09 seconds after the creature made itself visible, Samus fired a barrage of energy blasts at it.
Seeing that they had no effect, she switched to missiles, just as an energy blast from another one of them erupted from its cannon. TRavelling at 1000 feet per second, it flew through where her head had been just a millisecond ago.
Suddenly, the other 19 all fired at her. She tensed her legs and jumped 10 meters up, propelling at 5 tons of metal into the air like it was a small rock. She fired a Super Missile at the one she tried to dstroy a moment ago. 10 pounds of metal and high explosive thundered into its head, creating an explosion so powerful that even from her height of 8.5 meters she could feel it vibrating through her suit. As she landed, she somersaulted into the nearest creature, and obliterated it with enough energy to melt rock. As she landed against the wall, she jumped off and grabbed onto the ledge on the other side of the 20 meter room, then rolled into a ball, placed a power bomb, and unrolled and grabbed back onto the ledge, while drawing her legs up to dodge yet more of the energy fire from the enemies. The Power Bomb went off, and destroyed 18 of them, leaving only 1 standing. "Die censored.gif !" she yelled, firing a Super Missile at it, but it easily moved out of the way, and the Super Missile thudded against the wall behind it, causing it to fracture. The enemy screamed as it was crushed by 100 tons of super-condensed rock. Samus looked desperately for another way to escape, but the room she was solid rock for a mile around, and the teleportation portal had closed behind her, as it was programmed to. 30 tons of rock fell on her, nearly breaking her arm. She fired her Plasma Beam a few dozen times, and destroyed a foot of rock. It wasn't fast enough. She tried charging her beam, and firing, but her sensors indicated that, though it had liquified about an inch of rock for a second, itif she did it much more than it would eventualy just fill her gun and harden, leaving her unable to shoot. She knew that a missile wouldn't do much good, and anyway, the compression waves would probably damage part of her gun. She tried rolling into a ball, and placed a bomb. The ground below her broke apart, making her fall 200 feet into a ball chamber. Thank God, she thought. Now how do I get out of this damned place? She tried placing another bomb, and some rock to her right crumbled. She went through that, and continued for several minutes. She could tell by the slope of the Ball Chamber she was in - 1 inch increased elevation per mile - that she was now about level with the room she was in during that fight. Some minutes later, she encountered a turn and took it, and eventualy found an opening into a room. She unfolded into her normal form, grateful to finally get out of that wretched ball mode, when suddenly something lifted her up and threw her against the opposite wall as thought it had merely been throwing a rock. She slid to the ground and switched to her X-ray scope. censored.gif ! she thought, seeing the monstreous beast, both like and unlike the things she had fought a while ago. Like, in it's strength, speed, and size, but unlike in that its gun was destroyed, and it was 20 times the size that they were before. She did a flip and landed behind it, and as it turned, she jumped and slammed her gun down onto its head. She felt it smash like a sledgehammer against a gnat, and felt the force of her strike lift her into the air. She landed, and fired as many Super Missiles and plasma shots into it as she could. She knew that, though its steel-hard skull had been crushed so easily under her gun arm, her weapons would cause much more damage to its even harder exoskeleton and internal organ. As the smoke cleared, the teleporter portal opened, and she walked out with no evidence but the blood that she had done more than break a wall.

Now, according to this fan fiction, which is what I regard the Halo Books to be:
She can jump higher than the MasterChief
Her suit weighs more
Her Screw Attack is powerful enough to melt rock
She could crush his head with one strike
Her Plasm Beam is also powerful enough to melt rock
Her Super Missiles can lay waste to steel, super-condensed rock, and, say, the MJOLNIR armor
She could easily survive any of his weapons
In a few minutes, she traveled 2400 miles to reach the height she was at original, so in ball form she IS fast

This is all very inconsistent with itself, practicality, and the Metroid games.
Well, so are the Halo Books.
Which is why I hate them.
They may not be this extreme, but if I wanted and had the time, then I'd be able to write better ones that are more consistant with the above stated things my fan fiction is incosistent with.

Sorry, this is immature and stupid, but I just needed to make a nice long complaint about the books, along with a nice long exageration about what I hate about them.

how could you ever possibly hate the halo books. they are awsome and actually realistic. you are not going to have "super missiles" and stuff like that. whats best is that this is based on a human not some fantasy machine.

If I had the energy and motivation, I could go through my books and tell you every stupid thing I notice, and even so I'll probably miss about half of the stupidities.

they're only based on humans as much as Samus is;
as I told you, it's an exageration of what they're like, not what I think they're like.
Pay more attention wink.gif
