I'm in the process in creating a map right now...and even though I have another post on the same map, this is another subject. How could I restrict contructing buildings with exception of designated locations? For instance, if they built in a restricted zone, their building would explode or something. I have specified "cities" on my map, and I'm trying to make it where cities are the only areas in which you can build, like in a real-life situation. You know, cities have the factories and all...so, is there anyone with ideas out there?

Just have the trigger

Bring at least 1 BUILDING to location 'no buildings here'

Kill all BUILDING at location 'no buildings here'

And repeat smile.gif
You can also add a
Modify resources for current player to add X resources so they get their money back.
You can't detect if they have buildings in the stage of building tho.

I've gotten that far...but what about exceptions? In the middle of this "no buildings" location are other city locations. How do I make the exception for these particular locations within "no buildings" location? In other words, this "no building" location will cover the entire map...which means there will be other locations inbedded into this huge location; I need to make an exception for those smaller locations.

Just make these no building locations small locations where people can build but you dont want them to smile.gif

or you can do really sophisticated stuff like,
Bring 1 to no building
Bring 0 to city1

destroy

bring 1 to no building
bring 0 to city 2

destroy

Well... its not that sophisticated...

Alright...I think I got something now. Thanks, you've been a great help. Now I finally move on from this god-for-saken subject in my map.

Thanks... biggrin.gif

You could also use the terrain type to restrict the building ability.

I did think about that...but the problem is that I've already made the map. But I still might do it though, it may take time, but that's wall makin maps is all about.

Post the map here later.....
Wanna see it

Ok...but I'm warning ya, as you may have noticed I'm a beginner. Anyway, I have another off topic quiestion quick, how exactly do you protect your maps? I'm using this emerald thing for my editor for a few extra things in my map. I'm a bit afraid it'll crash or something...so I'm trying to back up my map incase something goes wrong.

Anyway, thanks for the help, and I'll make sure I post my map up here and all when it's almost done.

Proedit is the one most people use because it cannot be unprotected by anyone except Clokr_ (The guy who made it)

http://www.staredit.net/index.php?download=162
Guedit is an older map protector but nobody uses it because it can easily be unprotected.

I dont know what this does but it is a protector.

Some people use SF protector.

I discovered a bug last night that proedit, sf, and guedit have in common. Because of this bug I get am able to open any map, even the ones that are protected by the programs stated above smile.gif Let the map stealing begin! (I am joking about messing up peoples maps wink.gif )

Yea you can open the protected maps with SCM Draft Alpha.
But you lose the terrain.
When you try to edit the locations, triggers, or strings, it crashes...
So it doesn't expose anything except for unit placement location tongue.gif

Shadow_Bringer, I recommend using Starcraft X-tra Editor for mapping and PROEdit to protect. Starforge... after you get used to SCXE and want something more powerful. The editor you're using now is obsolete, and I think SCXE incorporated it.

Nope. I unlocked SoftWareWolf's becon defence, Mini Mooses's Überena, And Tux's A&O Trailer and be able to play the unlocked versions in STarcraft - without any bugs.

another idea for your placing city problem is that you create triggers that remove certain buildings as soon as they are made (yes i know that would be tedious for the amount of buildings there are) and then create a large location, say one big enough for all of the buildings any one city would have. then you use the move location trigger to maybe a Command Center (if that is what you are using to signafy this area is a city). so the effect should be, you can only build certain buildings next to a Command Center, and becuase you are creating a list of the buildings that you cant build near a Command Center like a factory you can leave certain buildings out of that list so you can still make a house or something anywhere you want.

sorry its alittle late i havnt been on sen lately and its another option you can use

o and this way you can build houses or w/e anywhere you want (you cant really do that when all of the terrain is un-buildable)

SA MAz be careful about what you say about map unprotecting... As for the actuall terain thing. Don't use emerald, get SCXE and SF and then edit the friggin terrain, its easier and better than triggers.

Nevermind...I finally fixed it. Anyway, my map is close to being done....
