They do not count in the Unit Count Max, but Starcraft will stop "creating" sprites once it hits a certain number, i think its 2048. Units are all sprites, so are doodads and firing squences.

The unit max.You know when sometimes on a map it will say cannot create more units?

Then, no, sprites do not count as units. There is a sprite max however, (yes Coko it is 2048)

why dont u go into starforge then select a sprite, clik on ur mouse n keep holding it down... then drag it across the map until it says that u cant create ne more

DT_Battlekruser I believe that is is 2048-1700 to account for any units that may be in the game.

Because that would be wrong. Starforge isn't programed with all the max vaules for starcraft.

So Bolt, what is the correct number?

I it will give you more than exactly 2048-1700 unless you have 1700 units ingame. Sprite spots are not "reserved". Also think; each unit technically uses two sprites, one for attack anim and the other for the unit. The limit is 2048.

I don't know one way or the other, i would assume what DT_BC says about the sprite max is correct. The maxes programed into starforge are for loading purposes. Its basicly how much memory is dedicated to loading certain features of the map. If starforge is lagging for your decrease the values to resonable amounts and it will run smoother.

SCMDraft has the default figures for Starcraft set to 2048, therefore thats how many you can have, including anything that needs to be drawn in by the Starcraft Engine.

I think that's plenty, what kind of map needs that many sprites.

If you won't to lower unit count though, will making doodads terrain with StarForge or scmdraft take that doodad out of the unit count max?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2004-11-10 at 18:57:28
That would be something to try. Place say 1800 pure sprites, then start making units. See if unit limit is affected. I expect it is.

Wow, that could get wierd. Because if you have too many units and they try to attack they won't be able to shoot. So what if it starts creating units that have NO images? COMPLETELY invisible? Interesting. Oughta try that out.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2004-11-10 at 19:42:35
Or it will just say "cannot create more units" or other error message.

Yes, sprites count to the 1700 unit max.

(I'm glad to be back)

Sprite is an additional layer that can be placed in ScmDraft 2 or Starforge, just like locations and units, terrain etc.
They have sometimes very different physical properties for each sprite and some of them crash the game. The doodad sprites look like doodads but usually can be walked on. Some unit sprites hold simutaneous properties as normal units.

Actually, sprites act exactly like the doodad ones. Doodads use sprites.
