Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Floor Hatch Heat Wave Effect
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SaLaCiouS(U) on 2004-11-07 at 19:50:41
In Tux's A&O Trailer he had this floor hatch heat wave effect going on during the Vulture sequence. It featured invisible floor hatches being centered on a vulture while opening and closing. I'm too lazy to figure this out by myself, but I need it for the Tutorials Database. Anyone care to explain this for me?

I'm not sure but it looks like a bunch of cloaked units. But it might just be me that thinks that. I hope that you find out what it is exactly!! (cuz i wanna know too)

I may tahinka nd say that he might have just kept constantly creating/removing floor hatches from the scene.

Something like this migth have been done although I'm not sure:

-A somewhat medium sized location would be centered on the vulture.
-Constantly create cloaked floor hatches in that location.
-Once the vulture starts moving, the locations will also move thus making the floor hatches outside the location.
-Those floor hatches outside the location will be removed not killed.

I'm not sure on how Tux made it but this might be a way.

it looks more like he cloaked them somehow confused.gif then enabled and disabled to make them open and close

He just cloaked a bunch of hatches and open/close them.

There is a test map in the DLDB.

To do this all you do is disable (which cloaks) and then toggle which opens///closes. And BeerKeg you can't create floor Hatches, you know that. happy.gif...

I tried that but disabling only opens the door and doesn’t cloak it

Can arbitors cloak the floor hatches that belong to a player?

For people who can't identify how Tux did it in his test map, here's how you do it.

Usually, disabling a door or hatch only opens it. However, when it is disabled, place an observer on top of it and it will become invisible. (Same with bunker). Make sure the observer is placed on the hatch for about 111 milliseconds. After it is invisible.. then you can start toggling its doodad status at your will.

The Key to use the floor hatch unit not the doodad from installation.

Do you have to give the unit away and stuff?
Or does it just have to be disabled?

Tux gives the units away so he doesn't have to put locations over every one of them. No you don't have to give them away but if you have more than one it is easyer that way.

I didn't know that you can't create floor hatches since I almost never use them and when i do use them it's for doodads, terrain a and stuff. When I want the blur FX I usually go cloaked CC and float them.

This gives me a great idea. Can you cloak intercepters?

If so then have a 2 or more cloaked carriers attack each other with cloaked interceptors it should look awesome.
If not then get a cloaked arbiter cloak everything, but you will need several arbiters sine the interceptors can go out a pretty long way.

Not all the tips and tricks have been incorperated into the tutorials guide... I think...

I explained it in full for one of the random map making tips. If it ever pops up again, just cut and paste that.

Beer, how do you cloak CCs. That would be very helpful in my map, biggrin.gif

When moving a floor hatch, does it move like a unit, or like a building with the grid limitations thing.

Last time i tried it crashed... disgust.gif

anyways.. just disable it and place and remove an oberserver if u want to cloak it. It works with bunker.

You can't cloak CCs with disable, or any other methed by my knowledge
and beer keg you can, cloak interceptors I have a good method for this so you can get all 8 cloaked easily.

How do you do that. Only thing I can think of is giving them to anotehr player when disabled, but then the interceptor would have no mothership and therefore not be usable.

Arbiters work though, biggrin.gif

You could get the interceptors in one area away from the carrior and one at a time disable them and move them to another area.

Will they then try to go back into the carrier?
Wow this can be awsome rain tongue.gif

They will always try to go back to the carrior unless your running a differant AI on them.

You can cloakCC's (Command Centers if I presume) by using the player 161 trick. I saw DK show it once in a map night.
