Report, edit, etc...Posted by Neiji on 2004-11-10 at 21:49:22
Whenever I try to open MS Dos files, it doens't work and it says:

The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

It used to work, but now it doesn't. How can i fix this?

I've never gotten those types of applications to work under Windows XP, because in XP a lot of changes were made and MS_DOS became outdated.

For me it says "not enough memory to run win32" or something like that. And when it does run it only shows up for a second then exits on me.

Every computer has MS-DOS. Under XP its under accessories and its called command prompt.

So, you can go into command prompt and open the program?

Cuz it's an .exe file and it's those ones that have the black background and white words...

We know what DOS is, the issue now is that under all previous Windows DOS was the backdrop to the actual windows, while XP is built on a new system, NT and so DOS is just an add-on .exe and so certain previous DOS programs can't run as they used to because of complicated DOS command/windows censored.gif .

Yeah... I wish I could get Ultima 7 and 8 / Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 to run again... just for censored.gif s and giggles.

"U all know what mugen is, rite?"
Never heard of it... but if you don't know the ultima series, your rpg collection sucks.

Anyways! I'm sure there's a way to make a dos boot disk and configure the environment to your needs. Check google.

That, or check window's help file on how to have a 'clean boot' tongue.gif. To do this, put a floppy disk into your disk drive (I am assuming you have a floppy drive, right?), go to "my computer" and then right click on the floppy disk picture (also known as a "icon"). Then click on "format". Then a window, in theory, should appear. Warning: if you proceed you will loss anything on your disk! Check, "Create an MS-DOS startup disk", and then click on ok/format. When that is done, leave the disk in your disk drive, reboot your computer, and then you will be in MS-Dos. (and then hopefully you will be able to play what ever you want biggrin.gif)

I hope this helped.

So, how can the Ms-Dos go back to the regular windows?

Just take out the disk and restart...
