Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> a new offence and defence map
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Urmom(U) on 2004-11-13 at 12:23:02
yes i know, i was already working on an offence and defence map but for some reason which salacious explained to me it keeps crashing and cant be fixed so im starting a new one.

Dimensions
-----------------
Jungle
64x64 so there is larger minimap

Object of the game
-----------------------
You and your team mates defend a place from another team of players. after the round is up you switch turns and its your turn to attack your opponent. The terrain will be recycled but with different amounts of units each time.

Features
------------
Im not sure if you should be able to make your own units because that would unbalance the game. Maybe ill add upgrades or something.

I'm also thinking about making you be able to buy heroes but that may also rig the game

Sounds
---------------------
I have a great list of sounds to play when either team wins.
---------------------------------------
Im open to all the great ideas you guys have, i need more!

I-I-I LOVE THIS IDEA! IT's GRRREAT!
Can I be one of the beta testers?

Urmum, it is not the terrain that makes it crash as Salacious may have explained it. It is your buildings. I know your buildings are essential, but if you remove ur buildings, I garauntee that it will not crash.

The most logical reason is that you probably misplaced some buildings on the edges of the map editor, just one slight piece goes off, it will automatically crash.

Or you set their health to 0 on an editor, buildings always crash on that format.

It is the terrain. If you open it in StarEdit it removes the units because they are placed on invalid terrain. It removes units in random places all over the map for no rhyme or reason, and even in StarEdit it still lets you re-place the units in those places, and then it will delete THOSE after you open it again! It's a wierd crazy bug involving installation terrain.

As for this new map, it shouldn't be that hard to do whatever you want and to keep it balanced, but don't use upgrades. Then the next round is rigged because each team has the upgrades from the previous round.

I think I've seen a map with this idea before...

It was like make a D survive an attack then attack the other guys.

Yeah!!! And make it so you can have like super selectors for the attacking side, like powerups and things!

what do you mean by super selectors. also im thinking of adding some power ups but that may rig the game.

edit: i will also add a playable version of the first level in a day or two.

Just have limited abilities with the Power Ups and require certain things to make them possible so it needs skill and not just luck.

This is not really true. I have never had it crash from that, it just removes them. I have done it in a few maps by accident, and they just weren't there. Why do people thnik it makes SC crash?

Just one question? Won't the terrain have to be all the same everytime because it is 64x64?

Does it play sounds only when someone wins, or does it have background music as well?

Actually it will crash, but likely you've not played them in Starcraft, it doesn't remove it crashes, in StarEdit it removes them.

i have five great sounds that ill play when a team wins, loses, or switches teams and some other sounds. im not going to loop any music because itll cause problems with my waits and can be annoying. The terrain is exactly the same for each team to make it even and i dont use different terrain for each level like my previous one because this way is much more efficient.

im hoping to put a demo by tonight to be able to download if someone will test it

You could use Death Waiting systems.
