Im stumped. What is it and why does he know stuff the Prophets dont? Why was the prophet that we 'killed' talking to us through his tentacle and why did he look like the Flood had there way with him?! He might be Flood overmind cus he doesnt want them to activate Halo which is meant to destroy all food for the Flood. So what do you think?

well the prophets are dumbasses, tehy think that activating halo will make them all Gods and they will ascend into the Divine Beyond (with is sorta true)
Its not a forerunner thing, beacause it would want the flood destroyed. If it was a flood thing, why do the flood still attack you? wouldnt send them to help you?

That thing was weird, first it saved you in the ocean and then later saved the arbiter in the city, so that means that either it was fast enough to move from the ocean to the city pretty quick or it covers halo and pulled them to it with it's tentacles. Also if it was flood it would want to assimilate them into it, kill them somehow or do something else, not release them to do their bidding. And if it waas a forunner then how come it didnt want to activate Halo, I mean before the forunners activated halo so they should have no qualms about it now. i say its a forunner creation that they sheltered from bieng destroyed when they activated halo because it can teleport people, It teleported the MC and the Arbiter and it knows tooo much so the forunners might have made it as the gaurdian of halo or maybe just to help or carry on their knowlege in an organic way. 'Although it did act kinda like a flood...

Ok I still think he's a Flood, but maybe not the Overmind of the Flood, maybe just an intelligent Flood. He knows what Halo is made for and doesnt want to die. So he gets the two best fit creatures on Halo to get the job done. Cheif rescues Keyes, gets the Index, and stops the ring from starting in the last possible second. Gravemind lives and begins its talk with Cortana. (Cant wait to hear what they talk about

The Gravemind IS the overmind for the flood. Don't think that the flood are stupid because he controlls all the flood. HE WANTS OFF OF HALO. He wants the Arbiter and the Demon to find the Icon so the prophets dont activate the halo and destroy the floods chance of getting off of the halo.

Would you want someone to activate a machine that will cause a large area of galaxy to be suddenly and quite literally dead, and then activate the others, which will consequently cause the same to happen throughout the entire galaxy?
MC and Cortana sure as hell don't want Halo activated.

Maybe the gravemind sees the covenant and humans a threat to the flood. The halo was made to kill the floods food, not the flood. So gravemind might be willing to wait arround another twentythousand years to find an easier pray.

Gravemind is like a flood being. Maybe one of the first flood forms found by the Forerunners. Or even maybe that it was a plant that was mutated by somthiing, maybe radioactive waste or somthing like that, and then it released its spores and mutated sentient life! and thats how the flood started!!! DON'T YOU THINK MY THEORY IS SOOOO GOOD!!! WOOT!!!!! (I just made it up in like 5 minutes lol)

He knows that Halo was designed to destroy the Flood's food so that is why he doesnt want it activeated. If he is Flood then Halo was MADE to destroy him! If there was a gun that was made specifically to kill you, you would want it destroyed too.

Ahah! Ive found it in a Halo/Halo 2 concept art and game art book. THe Gravemind is a compilation of fallen Flood. He calls himself the incarnation of our sins, murder is a sin, so he is the flood MC killed all rolled into one nast looking ball with intelligence.
