It depens, for trigerring and placing some units, ding the basic stuff: SC_Xtra 2.6 with the Patch, for doing cool stuff, like square terran, doing special stuff with units name, doing 3D buildings and all other Special stuff that you can not do normally in Starcraft: Starforge 2.2 the is only one thing i don not like to do in starforge is: doing terran that looks realistic and trigger. I has a weird and most of the time, It dosen't work for me, so for triggering i use SC-Xtra Editor. So I can not vote, when i do spectacular maps I use both of them. Hope you will too.

i prefere X-tra Editor, which has many modes and makes it easy for me to use. i usualy use the Speical Editor of X-tra Editor, but i also use Base, Classical, Alternate, but i don't use P12 Editor. mostly cuz i don't understand it. almost all of my maps i have made with X-tra Editor, so the best editor, in my opinion is X-tra Editor

I don't think it's possible for their to be a 'best one' I mean they all have their different functions. I personally favor Starforge over anything due to the amount of options it has... but it has it's glitches like when removing triggers, it doesn't remove them all them time; that's quite a big glitch. That glitch can only be fixed in editors that can't handle all of SF's options and operations so it may delete some of your work... just an example.

So I gotta say I can't choose a 'best editor' in any case.

The editor StarCraft came with, period.

Well how do you figure? Xtra is exactly the same in all shapes, ways, and forms other than the fact is has more than regular staredit... I mean Xtra 2.5 that is.

Personally, I disliked Starforge for a while because I didn't like the triggering... but it has grown on me a lot and I do most of my triggers with it, so basically I'm just using starforge to make my maps.

Xtra on the other hand is a great editor no doubt, and most like Staredit as I mentioned above; I prefer 2.5 over 2.6 though.

What do you think X-Tra editor is based on? Where would any editor be that deals with StarEdit with out the Campaign Editor? Hmm? As for the StarForge triggering: you can pick up on it easily, I read Clokr_'s turtorial and find it easier and faster to do triggers with.

StarForge - Custom Triggers, and better pallet rate for Custom terrain.

SCMDraft 2 - Terrain, sprite editing, unit colors.

SCXE 2.5/2.6 - Triggers, unit editing, and more.

I would pick Starforge 2.2 because it doesnt lag any more when you place alot of units in the map...and you can undo if you make a mistake...And yes i know you can do this with all other editors but Starforge 2.1 you could not...Im a starforge fan...And also triggering is easier for me in starforge

I use a combination of SCM Draft 2 for square terrian, Starforge for Sprites and sometime square terrian, and X-tra Editor for Triggers

god all real mappers use SCMdraft for isometric terrain and Starforge for all else. We aren't intimidated by text trigger GUIs.

I agree, most of the time great maps are made from both starforge, and x-tra editor, so it just depends...

Well I'm glad someone else is thinking with their head Zergling[SK] wink.gif
In any case I'm all done here.

What is Xtra 2...

On Topic:

Xtra and SF... Xtra for ma triggs and unit placement (because i dont like the unit unplaceable thing). SF for my terrain and sprites.

I voted for Xtra 2.5-2.6 What is the difference anywayz?

You forgot...the ORIGINAL StarEdit!
It's the one I use the most(I don't need 255 upgrades, stacks, special units, etc. so the StarEdit Vanilla is always the one I'm using. If I have to do something special, I will make the map in StarEdit, finish it but the non-special things and do them in StarForge.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by KaboomHahahein on 2004-11-18 at 18:29:38
I like them all. They have their own different specialties. But if I had to chose one defnit one it would be Starforge. The triggering is so much easier. Howver I just fon't like the little annoying bugs. If you could inmprt triggers, move triggers up and down it would be the best!

StarForge is too annoying to use, i'd prefer a pure Coding Styled trigger language, not a mix of GUI and text-based.

I voted for SCXE 2.5

But what i really think is the best editor is Proedit, since it protects our maps from others smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Fortune on 2004-11-18 at 20:12:33
See Millennium, that's the thing... Proedit would have no use without Xtra, SF, or any other editor... and vice versa for those editors. You can't truly choose and that's my dilemma.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Screwed on 2004-11-19 at 00:27:04
I use starforge 2.2 for everything biggrin.gif

Except for protection on my new maps..

But I used to protect with starforge.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SoftWarewolf on 2004-11-19 at 04:33:11
this poll was kinda stupid, i use both xtra 2.6 and starforge 2.2
its hard to compare one of them to be better than the other, and you didnt include any other programs at all.. what about scmdraft 1 and 2, and the other staredit versions?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Paella on 2004-11-19 at 06:03:28
It's hard to say which is the best editor because they all have their ups and downs, but personally when SCMDraft2 has a good trigger editor, that's all that I will be using.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Fortune on 2004-11-19 at 09:04:56
Overall I use Starforge, SC Xtra, Proedit, and GUEdit (player colors)for my basic mapping operations.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EzDay281 on 2004-11-19 at 17:27:53
Starforge 2.2.

Starforge owns the rest, I use it for everything.

And you shoulda listed SCMDraft

EDIT: For everything except for protecting:
When I finally finish a map, I'm gonna protect with EditPro.
