Why does it crash?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by KaboomHahahein on 2004-11-18 at 18:06:09
Can't help...it wont even let me load the map. SCXE keep saying there is an error when I try to open with it. I'll try starforge.

i couldn't tell you, starforge is UBERLY laggy when i opened it, and i could not find anything wrong with it, i have no idea

*sigh* This has happened to several of my maps. This is the first non scenerio that hasn't worked.

Is this a melee and it is crashing?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by cfro7211 on 2004-11-18 at 20:07:36
i couldnt open it in x-tra. opened it in starforge, but it looks straightforward and simple....i have no idea why it's crashing. cant help you.

i noticed that 2 players have the same color, i think it was 4 and 6, both navy blue. this shouldnt be the reason why its crashing, but u might as well try and change it. it couldnt hurt. it's probably not the reason its crashing, but u might as well try

Same colours don't cause crashing...

BTW, why did you use 50000 for the mineral count? What was the crash error message anyway? The only thing I see is it could have been the "Too many narrow corridors" one.

Perhaps you shouldn't have 100 minerals stacked in 8 differant spots.

There was no crash meeage it just didn't work. should i lower the stacked minerals?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2004-11-18 at 21:51:41
No, because that isn't the problem.

Before you read this post, please note I have not taken a look at the map. As such, I can only suggest things that could be wrong.

If you can't open it in xtra but can open it in starforge, I think you might of changed the dimensions of the map. xtra, in my experiance, can only open 64x64, 92x92, 128x128, 192x192, 256x256, and a combination of the previously stated. Sometimes having a different dimemention of the above crashes starcraft (although Sala supposivly got a 1x6 map to work). You might of saved the map with starforge authorised protection, which means only starforge can open it. Also, you could have a unit/location/sprite off the map.

question: will more than one start location cause sc to crash? x-tra editor only allows for 1 start location, where as sf allows you to place as many as you wish--which in turn might 'confuse' starcraft, causing it to crash.

i was thinking that maybe, when stacking the minerals, you highlighted the start location as well, and stacked one of your start locations. just a thought, and i might be wrong. but will more than one start location crash starcraft? try replacing the start locations and see if that fixes your problem.

also: bolt might have a point.

Strings.DLL/VBS error... It's very common.. Just reinstall SC and your editors..

and if that don't work... Hell if I know..

People, if you use starforge to change player colours, sometimes it DOES crash. Anyways I'll take alook at the map now blink.gif .

Edit: Now i changed 1 of the Navy Blue to Orange and I tested it - its fine now. I dunno if the player colours are essential in your map - but use Proedit or GuEdit to alter the colour if you want to keep it.

Having 100 Stacked minerals in 8 spots won't cause it to crash, but you will never get to use all those minerals because you are halfway to the unit max. Place 40 or 30 minerals and 8 geysers

No, it won't. It's just because all you need is one, so Blizzard made their editor limit it.(Blizzard is the real author of SCXE[AKA Staredit], it was just renamed and called a "separate program" by the person who modified it.)

I think it is the size of the map like SA_Max71 said...

in scm draft 2 it sais it has to be 192 so itd be an illegal dimension causing it to crash so you have to change your dimensions probably for it to work

you used a 196x196 map
Report, edit, etc...Posted by phlemhacker99 on 2004-11-19 at 17:06:44
Yeah I know now. I thought that the second biggest size up was196 but it 192
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Slayer[SP] on 2004-11-19 at 17:06:51
My suggestion is that you remake the map as 192x192 instead. 196x196 causes it to crash
