Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> Konsekai : Swordwaltzer [ single player rpg ]
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SaKuRa_RPG on 2004-11-22 at 21:16:26
This project concept was developed mid-summer, high influenced off of my friend's online manga... anyway I've completed the basic introduction and have found city music themes. The map as of now is about 10mb, but can be compressed to about 3-4mb if I remove 2 city themes (if you want to view the intro).

What I am asking or hoping for is someone to help me make terrain for this map, partly because I'm not good at it, and I have little time. This is a 256x256 jungle map, single player RPG.

Here is the outlined story and details for this RPG. The ideas contained herewithin may be influential to you, but please limit the stealing of ideas. The outline is to help you see that making the terrain for this map is worthy-enough work.

The basic terrain I need is 3 cities for this RPG. If interested in helping, please reply as so. I cannot move much further into development without a solid terrain.

Characters of Konsekai : Swordwaltzer

Soujiro Takeshi (SOH-jee-roh tah-KEH-shi)
Souji, as his friends call him, is an ex swordwaltzer of His Majesty's Forward Guarde who retired from service in his country's fight in the "War of the True God" at the plea of Tessa, a girl from his childhood whom he marries. The two begin their lives together in the town of Teros.
Rune Ability: Circle 5
Tessa E'ydridge (teh-SAH ee-DRIDJ)
Longtime childhood friend, and now wife of Souji, whom she convinces to leave the battlefield after a disturbing dream of a geat evil coming to destroy them all. She is a Sightslumber, a clairvoyant who fortells future events through her dreams.
Rune Ability: Circle 4
Jayce Arravya (JAYS ar-ah-VEE-ah)
Teammate and mentor of Souji during his service in His Majesty's Forward Guarde, a group of elite warriors and runereaders who's purpose was the frontline defense and security of the country of Antioch, which has taken a nuetral stance in the war. Early on in the conflict, Jayce lost his sight when a massive explosion decimated the Library of Sosa, which at the time housed the knowledge and study of the "Unknown Runes", symbols of magical potent that had yet to be deciphered for use by the world. Since that day, he marshalled his skills to become the formost swordwaltzer on the planet, and is the teacher from which Souji learns everything. He has been marked by an unknown rune on his forehead ever since the disaster that claimed his sight, the Library and city of Sosa, and his family.
Rune Ability: Circle 2
Rywen Corsair (RYE-when cors-AIR)
Ex 3rd team captain for the Guarde and brother to the King of Antioch. Rywen was discharged from the Guarde after second-guessing the King's orders, which inevitably lead to the destruction of a small town and it's populace. Having been shamed, Rywen has been wandering the lands ever since, dishonored and alone, waging a vigilante war against his countries' enemies. Rywen is a skilled swordwaltzer on par with Souji, both having trained with Jayce Arravya. He weilds only one sword, as homage to his mentor Jayce, though the swordwaltzer style calls for two. This alone atests to his remarkable skill.
Rune Ability: Circle 4
Junthalos Sy'Lich (jun-THA-lohss SEE-lihch)
Noted Theif and assasin, Junthalos hails from the Kos Wastes, near the Town delightfully named Hell's Pandemonium. It is rumored that once he made a bargain with the Other Powers, his soul for phenomenal agility and stealth, but that in the end he stole his very soul back. It's also rumored that Junthalos started this rumor himself. What his stake in all of this is uncertain, but shortly after his encounter with Souji, one learns that this is no ordinary cutpurse.
Rune ability: Unknown
Rizaun DeMarcos (RIZ-uh-OON dee-MAR-kos)
General of the city of Kallis, Rizaun is trained in military tactics and that is all he knows from growing up in the high class military family of the DeMarcos. Rizaun has a kind heart and will usually insist on avoiding wars that are not neccesary, but has no second thoughts on battling rival cities. He is the head of the Kallis army, and if anything is needed or wanted, Rizaun is the man to ask.
Rune ability: None

About the World of Altir'Ra

Countries of Altir'Ra
Antioch (ahn-TEE-ock) - Kingdom of

Ruler: King Victor Altryma of Sosa

Capital City: Trystan Dale - The original capital of Sosa was annihilated in The Sosa Catastrophe 0f 1260 QM(DM).

Other cities of Note: Teros, Porthas Glen, Sosa, North Dawning, Tors Valley

Culture: Antioch was the center of runemagic, housing the Library of Sosa, the famous research center that was responsible for the discovery and cultivation of known runemagics today. As such, the beauty and architechture of antioch's major cities reflects this, as runes are literally incorporated into all facets of design and life in Antioch. Today, few of it's larger cities remain after almost a century of warfare. Small villages remain, managing to avoid to direct conflicts of the war and repeated assaults from the nations of Kallas and Corumant.

Crest: Runes under a Rising sun on a field of Blue

Turvallis (tur-VAH-liss) - Nation State of

Ruler: Chancellor General, His High Sovereign Lord Cyrus Corvax

Capital City: Turval

Other cities of Note: Turvallis has no major cities, having consolidated it's resources as a whole. Turval itself isn't a city so much as a sprawling stronghold for Corvax, his scientists, and his council. What few villages in Turvallis remain are either abandoned or so close to Turval that they are practically part of the city.

Culture: Before 1200 AM(DM), when the first major conflicts of the war began in earnest, Turvallis was a country devoted to the sciences and had several Universities of thought where students would come from all over Altir'Ra to study. Turvallis was known for it's remarkable incorporation of runemagic into machines and technology. The most famous of these projects was the Altir'Ra Unification line, which was a remarkable transportaion system on rail that unified the countries of the planet.

When the war began, that technology turned solely to weapons and military aspects. Turvallis' fall from grace is one of the more tragic stories of the war.

Crest: Falcon clutching open book on a field of red.

Kallas (KAH-lays) - Kingdom of

Ruler: Swordsovereign Jur Tallowbane

Capital City: Greater Brightonocht

Other cities of Note: None of any real size, mostly territories governed by Fuedal Lords. The only town mentioned aside from the capital is Nea, home to the shrine of Girod Thasil.

Culture: Kallas was one of the first to openly embrace the war definitions of the Last Vision of Girod Thasil, and it's said that the witnesses there are responsible for coining the term "The Determined Mandate of Heaven", and for spawning the Kurthan Church - a religion devoted to preparing worship for the coming "true god of the planet".

Kallas is a nation of the fuedal system, and as such is a perpetual warrior nation of various clans and sects, whose individual ideals may vary but who's loyalty lies solely with the Swordsovereign, the title for the ruler of all Kallas. Jur Tallowbane rose to his power in 1260 QM (DM), at the tender age of thirteen years old. His father, a former Regent of Nea as well as Cleric of Kurthan, is responsible for the sudden "no quarter" policy adopted by Kallas before their conquest of Greater Fiadon. As such, the child-king openly followed in his Father's footsteps of total warfare when he had his forces march on the former Anitoch capital of Sosa mere days after his coronation ceremony.

It is also noted that Kallas is the wellspring from which the Ikusa Tenma style of Swordwaltzing originated in, having evolved from 3 cruder styles in the mountains of Kallas shortly after the fracturing of the original style in 1183 E (ACD).

Crest: A Kallasian great blade, white on a field of green. Under which, read the words "Ahalsirsch'ovya, n'nae ra'al, n'nae j'thanos" (("for (the) mandate, to life, to death"))

Ni Ha Tenbatsu Ichii Ryuu
Ni Ha Tenbatsu Ichii Ryuu - old tongue of the original style

--Style septs--

Fragile Path:
Utilizes smaller, thinner and ultimately faster Blades. emphasizes defense and disarming one's opponent. It is a graceful and quick style though it lacks in true strength and stamina.

War Demon:
Also known as the Ikusa Tenma, the Broken Path, and the unspoken style. It's emphasis lies in overcoming one's own weaknesses, namely by ridding yourself of them in favor of your swords. For example, if your eyes failed you, you would remove them and train to fight blind. The radical practice of self-mutulation for the sake of combat led many countries to outlaw the style, or simply to pretend it did not exist among the ranks of it's respective Swordwaltzers.

Sheilding Path:
Also known as Protective Gale. It emphasizes protection of others at any cost. This style utilizes notched runeblades - swords known for their unusual design of a blade shorter than the hilt - called swordbreakers. The weapons feature a series of notches or catches on the reverse edge of the blade to catch and/or break an opponent's weapon.

Runic Blade:
Runereaders who know this particular style can literally form blades from magic they focus through themselves, based on the caster's particular rune alignment. The blades can not parry real steel, but they are not hindered by sheilds or armor, giving the user no protection but a distinct combat advantage.

The Doctrine of the Swordwaltzer

What follows are the basic principles of the original Swordwatlzer fighting style, or Ni Ha Tenbatsu Ichii Ryuu. The principles are called "realities of combat", and the word "wings" reffers to the style of swords used in this fighting art.

The First Reality: If your opponent can not hit you, they can not win.

The Second Reality: There is no enemy more skilled or ruthless than yourself.

The Third Reality: Death is never your enemy, but rather your teacher.

The Fourth Reality: You spread your wings only to draw blood, be it enemy's or your own.

The Fifth Reality: If your enemy can not fight, they can not win.

The Sixth Reality: Hatred is a weight on your wings, and you can never soar so long as you are burdened with it.

The Final Reality: Above all else, life. You face only your brother when you spread your wings.

Story:

Main City: Antioch - Hustling and bustling city of trade, always busy and always full of barterers. Many thieves roam around the city and live around the wooded areas surrounding Antioch. Soujiro receives several jobs and quests in this city, including retrieving of items, battles, and message delivery. Food and shelter may be purchased or rented here.

Badlands City: Turvallis - Mostly abandoned city, with a population made up of thieves, criminals, and homeless. This city was once grand, but due to its unsuccessful battles against Kallis, fell to rubble and its people lost. Most people stay away from this God-forbidden city since it is such a poor and crime related city, a city of anarchy. Some say there are still treasures beneath the soil from the long forgotten grand city of Turvallis. Soujiro visits here sometimes during quests.

Military City: Kallis - A city where all men who are able remain enlisted in the military until their usefulness wears out. Kallis has a long history of victories and most other cities keep away. Kallis is a well-disciplined city and strives from its economic treaty with Antioch. Antioch supplies food and water and Kallis protects Antioch from intrusions. Soujiro will be able to train here and receive military missions when enlisted.

Healing

Soujiri may heal wherever an Inn is present or he may buy food or even buy his own home where he may rest and recover.

Gold

Gold has many uses for Soujiro. Gold is attained by gaining experience through battles, jobs, and upon completion of certain missions and quests. Found items may also be sold or traded in the bazaars. Gold is used to buy food, items, upgrades, and homes.

Quests/Missions

Quests and missions may be attained through people who need something done, jobs, and the military. Quests and missions earn you gold, respect, items, or sometimes nothing. There are plenty of quests thoughout the various cities and you should always be on the lookout for them.

Jobs

Jobs are usually found in Antioch, where you can deliver messages, make and sell food, or become a hired secuity guard or police enforcer. Jobs may be lost if the work is not done well, they may also be refuted if the employee is caught by some other attraction. Soujiro will need to hold some jobs in order to proceed to other quests, missions, or storylines.

Storyline

There is a main storyline but Soujiro must practice and earn gold to venture through the areas surrounding Antioch. The main story is that Soujiro and Jayce came from an outside city as ex-Swordwaltzers, the elite soldiers of their city. Their city had been ravaged by a runic blade wielder named Junthalos, an ex-Swordwaltzer gone evil. Jayce has completely given up swordwaltzing, but will often help Soujiro out in tough situations. Jayce has settled on the outskirts of Antioch and live pretty happily. Jayce is Soujiro's and Rywen's swordwaltzer mentor and has an ability to swordwaltz almost effortlessly. He is unmatched in skill, but his old age has made him nimble. Soujiro has lost his family and friends and wants revenge against Junthalos, but is too small and weak to make any difference. Soujiro decides to train and defeat Junthalos. Tessa, Soujiro's close childhood friend had moved away when Souji(short for Soujiro) was just ten years old. Tessa moved to Antioch in her parent's desperate search for work. Souji and Tessa at first do not know each other, but over time, they keep bumping into each other and figure out their bond. Tessa is a shopsclerk and in a mid life crisis. Souji and Tessa eventually fall in love and marry. Rywen, brother of the King of Antioch has been outlawed from ever stepping foot on Antioch soil ever again due to an argument over power with his brother. He wanders outside Antioch and resides in Turvallis, where many other outlaws reside. Rywen is a skilled swordwaltzer and defends himself from anyone who gets in his way, also being trained by Jayce and used to have mutual relations with Soujiro. Soujiro eventually enlists in the Kallis army and successfully completes training and his missions. He is promoted up the ladder until he meets General Rizaun in person. General Rizaun is eager to let Soujiro have many of his own pleasures and lets Soujiro in on some property a bit north of Kallis. Souji stays in touch with Rizaun and Rizaun becomes Souji's close friend. There are constant raids around Tessa's shop and Souji puts an end to them, but in the process makes many enemies. Souji becomes a security guard for awhile to look after Tessa's shop and the neighboring ventures. Meanwhile, there is news Junthalos has decimated another small city west of Turvallis. Souji goes around Antioch looking for quests and gold, for experience and money. He will use both against Junthalos.

Concept

Many cut scenes built into game play, free roam or storyline modes.

Beginning

I will tell you a tale of this world.
It can not begin with "Once upon a time"...
So, where do I begin to tell you?
Perhaps I'll begin with "Here, now"
Yes, that is the best way to begin. Fairy tales run thick with solemn dawns and happy endings.
But this story begins with tragedy. It's written with drops of tears and blood, and it's ending is uncertain. Besides...
I never liked fairy tales.
Here...now...

Prologue:
What is history if not a fairy tale more deeply rooted in fact?
It is the year 1287 HM, year of the hidden moon. Chaos rages across the world of Altir'Ra, a world lush in life, progress, culture, and beauty. The City of Antioch is a thriving metropolis, hand in hand with the City of Kallis, a city defined and run by its military. But there are also fallen cities, such as Turvallis, once a grand city, now abandoned and populated by thieves, outlaws, and criminals.
Your city has been burned to the ground, your family murdered. You and Jayce Arravya, your Swordwaltz instructor, have survived. After weeks of wandering, you come across civilization, your only fuel, revenge.
The weapon of your revenge, the art of Swordwaltzing, an ancient style of fighting.

The Doctrine of the Swordwaltzer
What follows are the basic principles of the original Swordwaltzer fighting style, or Ni Ha Tenbatsu Ichii Ryuu. The principles are called "realities of combat", and the word "wings" refers to the style of swords used in this fighting art.

The above prologue is included in the intro that has already been made. If you want to see what I have so far, if you are interested in helping with the terrain, I would be happy to send you the file. (3-10mb)

Thank you for taking the time to read about this project.

WOW, a lot.

I am going to say I doubt you'll have much luck finding someone to do the terrain for you.... I've seen this happen in other forums and no one wants to do someone elses hard work. I think you're gonna have to do it yourself....

Yeah, I understand how that goes, but it is always worth a shot. Sometimes there are people who kind enough to help.

Good luck on map. Storyline looks promising, (i havn't read it all) just don't cram it down our throats in the breifing. And if u have a long intro, put in a skip option. That's all I ask scenario system wise.

If my computer with SC on it wasn't censored.gif ed up I would maybe help you a little with the terrain. But still, the best way to get better is to do it and do it a lot. Just make sample terrain map sand show us, we can tell you what we think.

Hey, I can help you out man. Just drop me a line on MSN sometime, we can talk about what all you need.

I'll never understand why people just don't do their own terrain. Its one of, if not the, easiest part of mapping. And you could do it best because you know what you want the land to look like and such. Stop being lazy people.

I have always thought the same thing.

Your rpg will come out ALOT better if you make most of the elements yerself......if not ALL

I understand that all... I built the terrain for my multiplayer version of it... Swordwaltzer RPG, which I've been working instead of the single player version. After I finish the Swordwaltzer RPG, I'll look at the feedback and begin to truly develop the single player version, with much more detailed and intricate story, quests, and free roam. Thanks for the input.

Agh.. your introductory to your RPG is so big... its so big that you copied the same info TWICE about the doctrine of the Swordwaltzer!

But besides that... wow.... thats a lot of information... makes me think of history class... some things you never need to know...

(Teacher: Today we're talking about the American Revolution. General E. Lee walked 1200.5 steps going 4 miles an hour N-NE to meet up with Ulysses S. Grant.)

Is the history you told us in your super-sized essay (I thought MY mini-sized essays were long) about the history and cultures of the towns. Will knowing this help us understand what the towns are like? Is it important information to know?
