Well, i've ditched The West Side, so i'm making an RPG map called "The World".

Story/Overview:

It is a RPG map with the main character as Jack Robinson, with two species of aliens on the planet, the Cryaki and the Zorbaki. You land on the planet with only a gun, and you must make nice with the Cryakis, whom whos land you land in. It's only started, but i'm putting 125% effort into this!

Players: SINGLE PLAYER

Features: A standard RPG with a progressing story and alien characters. Eventually you learn to wield magic, and spells, so its a traditional RPG.

I'll take suggestions/comments/praise/whatever
But i'll try to develop most of my stuff on my own.

I tryed to make an RPG over the summer. My inperation was Morrowind for X-box. I tryed to make it so that it wasn't like it but I took some things from it so I had some ideas. I like that you are creating a whole new origonal game. It is so fun editing and making the map. The best part is trying your game out and finding that it isn't a piece of junk.

Good luck and have fun!!!! biggrin.gif

I've made a couple RPGs and they're all fun. As you get used to making RPGs, you get better, of course, and get more ideas (coupled with more abilities to advance your map). The one main thing for me is the lack of time, I'm sure everyone has that problem. So, in short, just use dedication and spend some good quality time on your RPG and it'll turn out good. Hope to see it soon. smile.gif

yep lack of time is my problem also so I cut into my sleep time =/ which makes me bad really bad. at remebering stuff lol.

Maybe that's why people make so many Bounds. RPGs take too much time and Bounds can be made very fast.

If you finish this map, I would love to teste it.

(Are you going to make it cheat proof? Some sites give very complicated ways to make them not, but there some very easy tricks you can do).

You seem to ditch a lot of maps. Anyway, this sounds good I just hope you can get it to a playable level of completion.

Paella: I ditched my recent map announcements cuz they were impossible, and i actually have a pretty good map started...

Zerg Playing Dead: Good point, it WILL be cheat-proof

I've started several RPG's but finished few, I found a niche with the Merchants series and have stuck with it for awhile. But I would like to get back into the style of RPG I was working on. One of the worst issues I have with my RPGs they're so complicated I fear getting half way through it and running out of locations to place or text strings.

I may try my hand at a mini-series rpg, each map will be the same but with different characters. Thus a slightly different storyline. Or perhaps the same storyline from a different point of view. Not sure yet, as that was kinda the idea of my original RPG.

12 playable characters, 2 Secret Character Transformations as the story progressed. A large world to explore, the balance of Light and Dark rested in the hands of those 12 characters.

Before the actual RPG would have ended all 12 characters would have been played through either to the end of their individual story, or their death. Some characters could influence the story of other characters if played first, or if they died before they completed a critical part of their story. Etc

See why I am afraid of running out of location space yet? sad.gif

lol. recycle locations, its what i do. I use some switches and death counts for certain locations and if I know they will never be needed again or be used at the same time as the otehr spot, you can have the location center on units in different areas. You could use a big locationf for an area, and the one that moves. You can probably save at least 40 locations doing that.

good point, I never really thought of recycling a location. But when the map is designed to have 4 people playing it at once. It gets really confusing, maybe I'm not really up to making a map that complex despite the idea of making it already mapped out on paper. Just so many undefined variables left to fault the trigger system for the map.

Perhaps you can have locations following a hero unit or w/e and have it so that if other people brin units there, like a burrowed zergling, it does something. That takes up unit counts... but it could help if you have the space. You could change the effect when it goes over a unit by using death counts and switches or w/e.... A bt hard in a 4 player map though. I'll tell yuo if I think of something.

Use the grid system, it will save Hundreds of locations. Seriosuly though. You could make it only have like 10 locations doing the work of 255.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2004-11-23 at 22:41:36
Is the grid system where the grid of 9 locations follows the unit by means of using burrowed lings and stuff or something? Or is the one where you have different sized locations centered on a hero?, or am I very very confused....

Stick to one map damnit

Where did I hear the name Jack Robinson...Where......

Maybe it's because of the Robinson.....
Report, edit, etc...Posted by .Coko[CK] on 2004-11-24 at 06:00:09
Likely from the adventures of Cruise Robinson or something to that description.
Sticking to one map is important and impossible for the majority of the people at this website.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Paella on 2004-11-24 at 16:55:25
When you start and announce three different maps in one week you know that you have a problem. Don't start maps that you can't finish.

[CK Edit; haven't you got a lot of maps on the go?]

Damn, don't worry, I've already started triggering the beginning of the story already, and I ain't gonna dump it, unless my comp crashes and I lose it. This RPG will introduce spells later in the story, when you are (!CENSORED!) from the
(!CENSORED!). It's a plot twist that I won't reveal, nothing will spoil the story.

To prevent from losing it back it up on floppy. I doubt that you finish this. It's just a trend I have been seeing in your maps (ideas) lately.

No Paella, I think that The World RPG is staying. I've already. All the units are in place, the map is playable, but crappy, and I'm done writing the full story. Now im just triggering.
