Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> Huge PROEdit problem
Report, edit, etc...Posted by RexyRex on 2004-11-28 at 23:42:06
First off, I have no idea where to post this big problem. I think I'll do it here then it'll get moved or something.

Okay, when you protect a map with PROEdit, and then try to use the stolen, infamous SCUnprotecter, it creates a folder called "Tempfile." When it creates this folder, it has a .chk (I have no clue how to edit these, but they are uncompressed map files [Right?]) and all the .wav's from that map. Usually half the reason someone wants to protect there map is for the sounds and the map itself. I would think that this should be known to everyone.

And don't go jumping to conclusions that I use the program, I was testing PROEdit against it. It does this for maps even not protected or protected. It just does this to all maps. I dunno if Clokr_ can get around this, but maybe he'll talk to Heimdal and Heim can give him some help on it (Seeing as Heim made SCU to test himself).

Thought you might want to know this.

The .chk is what is protected by PROEDIT.

.wavs are very easy to get out of any map... you don't need SCU.. all you need is WinMPQ

Well then a handy feature of PROEdit would be sound protection right?

Sound protection is almost impossible, only way would probly make them unusable and still probly be able to extract.
Also not everyone has sounds 100% made by them in there maps so might not be exactly a good idea anyway.

Sound protection is impossible because .wavs are stored outside the .chk in the MPQ.

Trust me, ProEdit has worse problems, and Clokr_ would be wise to get off his ass and do some programming while he still can.
