Staredit Network -> Games -> StarCraft Monthly Challenge
Report, edit, etc...Posted by iamandragon on 2004-12-01 at 00:04:48
Welcome to this month's challenge, which is open to all humanss . These challenges require you to acheive some goal, maybe by using a certain strategy and/or using restricted units or what not. Or, perhaps, they might just be genuine, crazy fun.

You will be told at the start of each challenge how you will be judged - i.e. you may be given points for speed at completing the task.

This month's challenge:
This month will be a crazy challenge, where you are required to destroy and crush a computer player with style within 15 (game)minutes.

This may (and more than likely will) include the excessive use of spells, unit deaths etc. Rushes are the forcast...

Challenge Rules
» Cheat codes are NOT ALLOWED
» You may play as any race.
» You must use Blizzard's The Hunters map.
» You do not have any upgrade / tech tree limitations.
» You may exploit any AI glitches or game exploits to help you cripple / destroy your computer opponent.
» This challenge is open to any versions of StarCraft.

General Rules
» You must not use any hacks.
» You should play on the melee game type.
» You can only have one entry into the competition, but you are allowed to replace your old entry with a new one as long as entries are still being taken.
» Breaking any of the Competition or General rules may result in lost points or disqualification, depending on how serious the breach is.
» Your replay should be made playing the latest available patch.
» The judges decision is final, and not up to debate.

Submittal
»Your submission should be in the form of a replay by the end of the month (December 31th). Entry time may be extended for any reason whatsoever. For this challenge, the winner will be decided by a public vote.
If you do not wish to make your replay public, you may e-mail it to me at iamandragon@hotmail.com, but be sure to include your user name.

Scoring:
Extra onepoint given for doing the task under 2 minutes.
Extra onepoint for maxing your population.
The public will vote for you at the end of month. One vote=1 point.

Prices:
The winner will be put in the SEN challenge ROLL OF HONOR
250 minerals for the winner.

Judges judging:
DT_Battlekruser
Kow
n2o-Simpsons
PCFredZ
urmom
Judges are allowed 2 votes each.

This sounds and looks like Schwitzer's Monthly challenge at Warboards.org. You could've least changed how the rules are laid out so it doesn't look exactly like Schwitzer's.

I aslo don't see the point of judges when the winner is decided by public votes too.

Judges are in charge of the (un)fairness of this game. They have a job spotting cheats/broken rules. If anyone is caught by a judge, they will either face:
Disqualification.
Lost in points.
Insults from us.

btw: yah I got the idea from warboards. I would have changed the laid out but...since I'm so busy lately(that's why I had judges and SEN challenge teams to help me out) I couldn't get myself to...err...do too much edit. Plus, their lay out looks brillant! I can't type that symbol they've got!(» )

I will try not to have the same challenge of Warboards...I can create more creative challenges next year...after I clear my exams (23 exams in 2 weeks! and I need them to get into my university...)

I suggest making the point bonuses be three or four points.

It's not that hard to beat a computer within 10 minutes...so I think 1 point is good enough...but yah I think having 2 points for maxing population...why not?

Do we just send the reps to the DLDB or to your e-mail or what?

Don't replays usually mess up if you save a replay with a computer involved?

Well, I watched my rep and it didn't go haywire.

Replays usually only mess up on UMS games.

Choose either:
option A: attatch the replay on this post
option B: send it to my e-mail

If you send me via e-mail I will reply to you so you know I recieved

Unless it's in UMS.

I won't if it's in melee.

I admit it's easy...but to set the whole thing up so you can have some thing that makes people think 'wow! that's so cool!' withing 15 minutes isn't that easy. Besides, if you can do it, the others can. You can play as many computers as you want(it's a 8 player map), but it'd be easier to do 1.
Just a small suggestion.

You have to figure it out, don't you? Different people have different view for the word 'style', and that's why I made it a public vote! If you think using 10 nukes on a single creep colony and there is one player who did it, then you vote for him! If you think destroying a whole zerg colony with a group of marines is stylish, it is! The reason this challenge is challenging is not about its difficulty, but you also have to develop as many stunning techniques as you can within 15 minutes, to impress the people around!

Bonus points for doing the task in under 2 minutes = rushing = no style

If you can get 200 marines out within 2 minutes it'd consider it stylish. Remember, you are trying to impress the members of this board. Of course impressing the 5 judges will score you some bonus!
P.S.
I've been rushed by a classmate...he's got style too. I still remember...zergling rushed my marines, and he made a sunken colony under the cover of a whole bunch of overlords...(can't target it at all) within 6 minutes.

Most of the challenges are going to be public votes(noets: judgse votes double!)
In the future, some tasks will be timed, and thus there will be no votes.(e.g. maxing the population as fast as possible) (e.g. Score the closest to 200 kills within a game)(yes they're the next 2 challenges)

Yes judges are allowed to participated. But yet they still have to do the judges part(to find out cheaters/vote)
