I was just wondering if the pylonless buildings applied to all buildings like cannons or forges. I know it works for gateways though. I've never really actually tried it but hell it was in bolt's map making tricks in the Clan (U) forum tongue.gif so it probably works.

I think it does. Why don't you just test it? It's not too hard.

I've tested it on all Protoss Buildings and it works perfectly.

I was thinking of making a pylonless map, but then I thought "I cant plae buildings without pylons! pinch.gif " So, another failed idea.
But, you could make an arena where you get a probe and if you build a nexus you get a gateway and you build a pylon to get a cannon. And you could put a switch at the top so that it makes stargates instead of gateways!
Man, this site makes me think.

You can place buildings without pylons. It's just like placing sunkens without creep as shown in this map smile.gif

I mean building them in game. (didnt check map, just assumed by what you said) It just wont let you place them without them being on a pylons blue area, it is red. Just like you cant build it without enough money.

I had a similar issue for a map i was working on, which was based on team battle, with a collector and a fighter some time ago, and just had the Plyon for Cannons as you stated, and off the map a place to build a single protoss building, and that represented the Nexus when completed, and could be changed.

what he means is that hes trying to do a map where you build a building and then a trigger enables it so it doesnt require a pylon. the problem is he cant build it without a pylon.

Also you have to be continually re-Enabling the building or it will turn off over time. So you'd need some way to distinguish between buildings if the player had multiple buildinsg you wanted Enabled.

It wont work for me... this is my trigger:

¤ MoveLocation(Disable Cannon, Photon Cannon, P9, Anywhere);
¤ PreserveTrigger();
¤ Comment("Center, disable");


Where "Disable Cannon" is the location centered on each cannon.

I have them in a line and it goes down, giving them to the player, but it does not make it able to attack without the pylon =\

If you have preplaced cannons and you enable them even when they'er not by plons at first, will it work? My computer is being screwy so I can't test it.

Kow, I think you have to take out disable. That cloaks them, but they can't attack. I never figured how they got cloaked cannons to attack. I guess they are enabled, disabled, enabled or something.

They are owned by Player 9?

That will work slowly, because it'll only do one at a time, i'd advise repeating the trigger itself a few times. Even to the amount of Cannons you have.

I advise that you make a location on every building you want to be "Pylonless" and preserve trigger over it.

wouldnt that be a waste of locations then if he had a lot of buildings? just make the buildings owned by a computer then have a trigger(assuming the comp only has protoss buildings) that will detect if the comp has a protoss buildings then center a location on the building, enable it, then give it to a player. then the location will cycle around until there are no more protoss buildings owned by the computer.

The only problem with that is it makes it unselectable. Otherwise that is the best method to save locations tongue.gif

First off he wasn't talking abotu disabling his cannons, that was just the name of the location.

Second, you have to be constantly re-enabling it like I said or it will turn off right away. So it is NOT A WASTE OF LOCATIONS because you CAN'T EVEN DO IT WITH ONE!

I think I made a VERY valid point. This is a SERIOUS problem. People flood these forums with posts that are exactly the same as the person's above them. Or worse, they don't read any of the posts and then post false information that contradicts other posts. People should read the damn posts and then there wouldn't be a problem.

I've got 121 cities on my map, all with locations over them without Hyper Triggers and all Protoss Gateways, and i can always use them.
