I can find info on the smallest map, which was 1x6, but what is the biggest Size?
256x256 That was playable on B.net i believe
256x256 is the biggest map possible, anything above 256 goes over the byte limit, and will crash starcraft ( *DistortGiygas wonders about 1x1200)
i heard someone modded SC to make 1024x1024, but it wassnt b.net compatiable, still, i would use it for a huge single player RPG
Well with a mod, you can play a 999999999999999999999x99999999999999999999 map! Modding is modding... just not compatible for bnet.
You know what would be awesome.
Haveing terrain thats a circle instead of a square.
That would be interesting... you could make a more effective spiral or arena for that!

But he has a point you could make a giant single player RPG out of that.

Yeah, but then the edges couldn't connect, Only at the tangents.
._0 Big word.. Tangent? What do you mean?
Uhh basiclay its the furthest out part on a circle. The tangent point on a circle is where a line can hit it on exactly only one point. Otherwise it hits two points or none at all.
I guess im just saying that circles can can't fit together like a puzzle. They only touch on points unless there overlapping or something.
Kinda hard to explain without drawing it i suppose (mathmatical term)
Even with a mod, you can't have a map larger then 256x256. There is a program called Dark Nova that allows you to play maps over 256x256. The program, however, is not a modded SC, but was created from sratch. Basically it's SC with a new engine.
Got a link for this Dark Nova?

I saw a program that would let you do this... the only problem is it works only for one title and then you have to restart the program. I will try to find it.
DIM section of the CHK only supports 1 byte for X and Y dimensions; 256x256 is maximum non-modded map size.
BEHOLD! CURVED TERRAIN!
Just a little map I whipped up in a few minutes...
how the...? i just downloaded the map and played it...
it actually was half a circle of black terrain... i just cant get it....how?
FOR I AM THE HEX EDIT GOD!
Actually, it's just the 'sand worm' doodad, with his sprite ...moved...
Kinda freaky.
Should I put this map into the 'Expermental maps' downloads section?
No, because all it is is just a placed doodad. Big deal.
Uh...
Circle terrain, impossible.
Making terrain LOOK like circles with modding, possible.

http://darknova.sourceforge.net/. It's still in Alpha stage and I don't particularly see it planning on going anywhere anytime soon.
As reported above, you cannot actually Mod basic Starcraft to create maps above 256x256 because, for the most basic issue, it crashes the Mini-Map, beyond that there is loads...

I have seen a program that lets you do this, but I think it exports the terrain to a brush pallet that starforge can use. I have played a map where there had a "black hole" like tarrian on the map - and I don't know a whole lot about modding starcraft. Besides that, I have never had a mod version of starcraft.
The smallest (playable) map was actually 1x2. I read it somehwere in Starforge help, and it said who made it.
Looking at the screenshots for Dark Nova, I'm not impressed.
All it shows is things that the regular Starcraft is capable of WITHOUT modding. Yea sure some of the terrain and names were altered, and some of the unit commands were wrong. It never showed anything that we couldn't currently do.
Now on to downloading the program...
Umm... yea... what the

? It looked more like a flash program. I clicked on Zeratul and it crashed too. Actually, it crashes when I click on anything. It's also EXTREMELY slow.
I'll rate this a 1/10. 1 because he tried, otherwise it's a 0.
Maybe because it doesn't work on 1.11b, whoops someone got owned.
Thats why it crashes all the time, it doesn't run on that version, you'll need to downgrade.
Downgrade to what? It would still be useless and slow though...
