Alright, I only read the first post, but...
I don't like games like this.
Unless you have random events(which really

up balance because someone might be unlucky and keep getting bad ones all the time, while some n00b keeps getting good ones), it'll just be, "find the strategy that lasts longest" and hope that your unit misses the enemies less then any other players who also know the strategy.
Add some PvP element, like a dueling-game in the bottomright corner, so that if you lose enough at that, you lose the game, so you have to pay attention to both, while also trying to outsmart other players.

There arent any random events.
About the PvP element, I could do that, but dueling and surviving at the same time is kinda hard. I would have to separate those two events.
