I wanted to know if there are any universal compatible map sizes. 32x32 crashes me in Melee, but works in UMS (screws up minimap like I protected with SF, which i did not), and 20x20 won't work, but 64x20 does. I was wondering if anyone had found any other working sizes (I can't get any other sizes to work at all), and if they only work in some maps types or terrrain, what ones. I'll keep testing, but I wanted to know if anyone had done a alot of research into this already?
It is my understanding, though I may be wrong, that only the regular map sizes will work under any normal conditions. However, any strangely sized map supposedly works as long as it is not the first map you play upon entering Battle.net.
Thats some wierd thign Sala. You can't play it as a first game.
Melee>ONly regular sizes
Anyone know why the rule of first game is happening?
No, but if it opens in staredit, will it work in SC? I am making a 64x32 map, and the save triggers function doesnt work in SF so I opened it in staredit and saved them.
It might not. You guys, instead of making smaller maps, why not just make the map 64x64 and use the black nothingness to blank out places you don't like.
Most maps that aren't a usual size won't work.
It is just a 1player map, and I dont like wasting space. I just needed a vertical line, so I made one. And one of the tips does say "Dont waste ANY space on your map! Every inch has to serve a purpose!"
One of the dimensions must be a power of 2. Or so I've heard.
Just use regular map sizes. You guys are spoiled by StarForge into making

ty maps that don't work.

they said that to keep people away from making 256*256 maps and using only like 1/32 of it, but if your map is already 64*64 it's not such a problem leaving a part of it unused.
besides, you can always put a unit wireframe or some kind of picture on it to use that space.
or using this black area as a bg for credits in the end of the game.
as people others said, don't use sizes that you cant open with the original editor, it'll just increase the chances of your map to crash...
I just wanted to have the terrain right and not need a trigger and location for tons of air untis that try to sneak around through the null. I'll just make the terrain bigger.

lol, eventually they work, they're just not usually as good as we want.

you are taking the tips too seriously, the tips are there to help us but you dont necessarily have to follow them perfectly! if you cannot spell correctly, its not your fault!!! and people who flame you for this are idiots!!! most likely idiots with nothing better to do!!!! anyway, a lot of good maps have cursing, bad spelling, ect. my point is dont take the tips too seriously, most of them are good and i do follow them, but there is nothing wrong with a swear word every now and then or bad spelling or a map a little big bigger than it should be!
