Well...
I've made
many maps, some failures, some disiasters, some that could have been excellent works, etc... But, the major flaw I have in map makin'... [crys] is that... I can't seem to keep my motivation/commitment solidified to continue the map through to the end....
I was jus' wonderin' if anyone could give some tips? What do yall do? Etc. etc. Much appreciated...
Because,
I have an RPG set, that I Would like to get released, but at this rate... lol it doesn't seem likely..
P.S. -
This isn't per say, laziness, its jus' that I lose interest in tryin' to finish it...

So, if anyone could help it'd be much appreciated..
~Peace~

Forgot to mention,
The reason yall never seen any of my maps is because mainly, I've never released them to the general public. -.-'
I feel very unmotivated many times, but as i have mentioned in some old topics, the most important thing is to like get a rhythm going. Once you begin working on a map, focus focus focus on it VERY hard for like 3-5 minutes or until you set your mind into it. Dont stall, dont stop, dont daydream, they disrupt your rhythm.
At least that works for me...
I usually get started, I talk about it with my friends for long periods of time so I can think it through completely. I am generally excited about making the map. I usually work my hardest when I have no internet. I have nothing to do and nobody will bother me. I usually work really hard the first time around so I get most of it done the first day I work on it. That way I don't lose focus when I start again, instead, I can just troubleshoot.
TIP: If you lose motivation, quit map making.
... .....
Your not supposed to discourage people for makin' maps if they like it,
Thats like tellin' a newb who is havin' a hard time, and is misplacing "motivation" with "frustation"
But, YEA' THANX FOR THE TIP

I'm thinking I will.
Talk about them wiht your friends, if you trust them, and show those friends early betas as soon as it starts working. If you've got friends like me we'll bother you insessently about the map untell you finish it or give it to them to make them go away. Just ask moose. Some times though I wish I had some one who bothered me about my maps all the time, but what can you do?
Oh, and work on more then one type of map at a time. Then you can stop doing the same thing over and over.
Any hints as to when you're releasing your maps?
That reminds me, Someone in my clan keeps bothering me about a Halo map I was making.. He's bugged me for 2 months about until I finally told him I quit and to leave me alone.
i hope you dont stop making maps any time before i completely lose interest in starcraft altogether bolt. some of your maps are just phenominal. i would have to insessantly

slap u.
The only way i'll stop making a map is that if i know it wont be as good as i thought it would be... sometimes because i'm already working on enough maps, etc.
I'll only continue if i know lots of people will like it.
For people like me, motivation comes with inspiration. When I think of something cool, I won't rest until it's done.
Also, competition.

Hmm, was you directing that comment at me?
Well,
If so.. then if everything holds up, I'm guessing.... late January.. -.-
I find contests helpful. You want to have a great map for one so you keep at it. That or you tell everyone you are doing it and every week you will have a certain percent done. Once you do a certain amount, you can start doing that and you will feel compelled to do it. Even mroe if people show up on B.net every week to see what you've added.
ya deadlines keep me more motivated most of the time. plan a day that youll play and test your game with your friends so that youll be motivated to finish.
I hate it when some disrupts your motivation for long periods of time like what is happening to me right now.
My cd-drive don't

ing work and that means I can't do any type of testing. It is posible to have Open Alpha/Betas but the map was sort-of in a Pre-Alpha stage so it really wasn't playable, it had just a few triggers and stuff.
Now I can't do anything because in a Pre-Alpha stage it is very important that you test your maps personally to mkae sure things work the way you want to. Other testers don't know what very specific expectations you have.
Now that I can't map because of no testing, I pretty much lost all motivation to finish My Tanks Reloaded map. It was going to be a new type of map never done before and I was very motivated on doing it. In only 2 days I did all units, did terrain/unit placement/briefing and all non-important triggers that were needed for minimal features. I could've done the map in 3-4 weeks with extensive testing and maybe in 2 weeks with testing only to make sure it works. Remember when you are making a new type of map you have to invent the system and it takes time.
Anyways just telling you guys I hate losing my motivation and that my map won't be finished anytime soon. I might start making melee maps for the emantime since they require no testing.

This is why I love "No CD Crack," and it's legal too!

- You MUST DESTROY any backups when you don't legally own the Original Game CD/DVD anymore (e.g. selling or giving it away)
- Before making a backup, check in the supplied manual or on the back of the CD/DVD, if there are special conditions or provisions for making a personal backup.
I gave him one and he can't get it to work. He had his own and it didn't work.
yeah, the original crack I had required me to have the install.exe in the folder which is deleted when you install starcraft and can only be found in the cd. The new one SaLa gave me still tells me that I need the cd and that it's not found in the drive.
I tried moving the install.exe by my other computer via g-mail but it's about 600Mb and it takes to long to upload and then to download.
Put it onto a CD and do it that way.
hey coko, no offense but that is a retarded reply. he just said his cd rom drive isnt working. how is it suppposed to read the disk?
In order to be Motivated you have to genuinely want to make the map. If you are making a map beacuse you want to PLAY it, you're probably not going to finish it. If you are making a map to make the map you are more likely to finish it. Also it helps if you are competing with something, like I am with my map. Evertime I open the games list and see this

ty crappy version of a good idea being played, it pisses me off and I go work on my own some more.
Coko, I just said that my cd-drive doesn't work if it did i would've been testing/mapping/playing all this time.
I'm on Sc right now but on my other pc, everything is on the one I'm usually on. I could map in this one but I would have to move tons of folders and files and this pc is usually used by my dad and he's on most of the time.
I could move the install.exe from this pc to the broken one via g-mail but it takes way too much time even on DSL.
