when i click on save when i go to save my map in either SF or SCXE it tells me:
QUOTE
Could not open file 'C:program files\starcraft\maps\my games\demo version 1.scx' for writing!
what does that mean?
and
how do i fix that?
I've never heard of that error before, but I heard that it doesn't mean anything and that your game actuakly did save.
Or is that something else?
Make sure no other program is running/using that map. So quit that map in Starcraft before saving.
EzDay, that is only for lower than SF2.2

i didnt have SF opened when i saved it.... then the file missing thing popped up and i have SCXE 2.5 and SF 2.2 if that helps at all
Were you playing the map in Starcraft?
and did you have the map open in any other programs. Close those programs before saving it...

no, i was in the editor and i clikc on file; save
then the error pop-up window shows up!

I think that's the bug where it actually is saving, but dosn't appear to. Just PM me the map and I can fix it, its faster than me explaining how to edit the MPQ, etc.
Moose lies, download winmpq, load map, delete list file, close winmpq, done. GG moose.

well like i said i am not a computer person so i am gonna let him have it i guess
it's not like he is stealing a map that is made by an expert!
This is a glitch with the MPQControl caused by StarForge, the map is really saving even though it says it isn't. Deleting the listfile will not help, it will screw up your sounds and you will not be able to fix your map. It is very hard, in fact nearly impossible to fix this. That is why you should not use StarForge. Whenever I use StarForge to do any map editing, I make teh changes in a copy, then import them with some program into the original map. This way StarForge cannot rape the

out of your map. StarForge sucks.

i had no idea that happened do you have any idea why it does that?
I've had this happen to me before, and after messing around with it in SCMD2 it fixed it...
I just deleted the MPQ List file and it worked perfectly, no distortions, nor map failures/messing ups. Just delete the list file.
Or try opening it in SCMD2..
There are two ways to experiance this.
1. You have saved the map using one editor while it is open in another editer., or
2. You imported sounds and compressed them. (I don't know why the last one messes up a map, parhaps DK knows?) If you want sounds to be imported into your map, and not get this error, import them without compressing them.
Either way, you must save the map with a new name if you are using sc EXTRA after getting this error. If you don't, any changes you make won't be saved. (Trust me, I know from experiance.)
sa max, if you save with the error thing then it will still save. you can check the date for the file or test it because it happenes to me all the time.
the only times it happens to me is when I do what I stated in my last post. After this happens, I have to save the map with a new name, or else the changes I make won't be saved

I am not trying to argue with you.
When this happens to me. I exit the editor I am using and then open the map in starforge. Usually when i get that error and then i open the map in starforge there are two other error messages that pop up with characters you can't even read. Then save the map in starforge, exit starforge, open the map in your other editor and push the sounds button. They should be gone. Just import them again and save and it should be fine. Also if u import the sounds again you don't have to go back and put them back in your triggers even though they weren't there for a bit....wierd....but it works for me =/
This happens to me when I am testing my map. I am still in the map and I edit some stuff an try to save it. That is probably what happend.
This happens to me if I played the map on BW, then minimized it. Even if I exited the map, it'll do that. It still saves though. Play the game again, and if it has the newly saved things, you have nothing to worry about. I experience it all the time because I am constantly testing my maps.
Stop spamming you idiots. God this question has already been answered. No he was not in Starcraft or any other program with his map.
The last 3 posts are spam. You guys should seriously read the above posts.

Ya i have messed with the map like three or four times and it doesnt always have the error thing popping up but i realized that it does save everything

*sorry if i post in a old topic, but the way i solved this error ain't in here*
well... for me it was 1 kind of terrain (created in starforge) that caused this bug..., if u had this error even the first time u saved the map, delete all terrain types u had then... if u got it after awhile, then delete new terrain types...
