As decided from the other poll I have created, the decision was clear, that rpg was the way to go. I have decided to announce my construction of my rpg known as blueguardian_rpg which will be fully multiplayer fully compatible with my expansion sets, and completely immersive. It will be a semi Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game because of the limits of starcraft itself, I cannot create save files for characters. Thus, I will create a password type system that spits out a password for you to reenter when you want to continue your journey.
It will be mainly a story consisting of a war of nations, and a war within the mind of a young man seeking his purpose in life...
I haven't decided fully on the story itself, but thats the main plot of the story.
There will be a new system id like to call "cross matrix password system" or [cmps] and my "crash-on-replay protection" or [corp].
Whats great about the [cmps] is that it will allow players all around the world, to use the same map, and play the rpg together as a group to defeat the map. And not only this, but by using [cmps] you will be able to play within my expansionary maps as well as use your hard earned characters over and over again, GIVING MORE PURPOSE to acutally playing the game. Other rpgs don't offer password systems or allow for you to continue your character, meaning the replayability of the game is slim to none, with this rpg, you can continue to complete the game over and over, gaining more experience and power to eventually duel your friends to see whos the better player. =P. Not only this, but the [cmps] will support promotional values, like, the first player to attain the highest levels, and such and such. And because of this system, I can register players on a website, for prizes, and dueling information.
Along with the [cmps] you will be able to inscribe your name with a three letter ensignia, naming your character any name you wish with the vowels of the alphabet (any more letters and the triggering for the save file will be too much for the editor to manage; besides, I gotta save room for the actual rpg triggers XD.)
About the gameplay, there will be many advances of RPGs in general... This map will offer "automatic magic targeting" for more ease of play, and easy to pick up for beginners... Iive seen so many maps use a manual targeting system its not funny... I usually end up dieing because I try to target with an observer, and micro with my units... really sad. This map will also offer "automatic spell casting" which will automatically cast spells you have learned when the situation grants it. (like you're up against an army of units, you will automatically cast a "meteor" spell on the most packed part of the army. (I know it takes away from skill and what not... so I will have an option in the beginning of the game that can disable this, especially for duels).
Concerning how long it takes to release.... im thinking a very very very very very very very very very very very very..... very... very... long time... oh well....
tell me how you like this map idea, and what you would like to see in it... all ideas will be taken into consideration and if your idea is used in the map, you will be credited in the map itself...
Edit: I am currently creating a trailer for it which is why I updated it.
I think you're nuts. Want me to just post a link of an EQ emulator server? =p
Hmm there's nothing to stop anyone from just unprotecting the map and picking out the codes....right?
But anyways....are you going to make your own music? Voice-overs? What's the setting? Medieval? Futuristic?
Red2Blue I hope you are more skilled than God because that' what this idea is going to take. A lot of people have thought of this before, but it would take someone truly insane to actually do it. Mayhaps you are an insane genius, because that's the only way you'd complete this. Good luck I guess. If you can do it right.. wow. I doubt you can though.
But out of the few people I could expect to be able to finish this, he is one of them. What's the point of the CORP? I never put something into my maps to make replays crash because there was never a reason too. it's why I'm alawys careful where I put units to crash map hackers, and make sure they belong to P12.
I love the auto targetting idea though. I've never seen that before, it would be really neat. The naming idea is very strange, I'd have to see it to see how it works well, I would bet it could take up a lot of strings if you had each name capable of saying things.
voidarchon has a auto target map... his is pretty cool.

[Corp] is designed to protect passwords, to prevent them from saving the replay and taking your password...
and theres no way to further protect...

There is only one thing I can say about this rpg, it looks so good, but looks like it is nearly impossible to make, not to mention it is the polar opposite of the bounds that you are used to making (game-play wise, not skill wise).
"GL HF"
How many people can play at the same exact time?
you were a great bound maker, and i know you can make a good RPG. Good luck with it.
I bet on that you wont finish it

If this map is possible, then it'll be insane...

better get started and ask blizzard if you could make this map where you could start the game, and people could still join and leave

(now that would be cool) but yeah, ask ME if you need any terrain done

cause i could do some the best and this map needs to be the best

Then I suppose there are a lot of Gods in the world.
What he's saying isn't so awfully complex it would require the best mappers of all time put together into some mega-genius...
Actually the most likely outcome is that half your features won't work with each other, cause bugs and crash. Thats the biggest issue, or else it'll be so boring and repetitive it'll have terrible gameplay.
All MMORPGs are repetitive.
These are what I feel are the most important features of MMORPGs:
1. Community (other players)
2. Levels (higher level allows you to access newer content)
3. Equipment/spells (obtained from quests or killing things over and over again)
4. Other forms of advancement
1. Will be hard to achieve with the limited number of players in a game. There is no 'serverwide' guild chat, though /f msg would suffice.
2. Since this will span multiple maps, are you really going to lock new players out of the newer maps?
3. There isn't much in the way of equipment in starcraft. You'd be able to upgrade your attack, armor and for some units, shields.
4. In EverQuest there are levels, and there are alternate advancement levels. These allow you to increase your stats, resistance to magic, improve on your class skills, etc.
If 2, 3 and 4 are not well-done, the game will just be a chatroom. A lousy chatroom at that.
Well... its like this....
there is a way of equipment available ONLY IF you create the game using a shift based attack/battle mode, which is shown to be pretty effective in many rpgs...
although the more that I add to the game, features and other things... the more that the game will become complicated, not to mention trigger limits, and password thingys...
and alpha(mc) thats not my pw system, how its gonna calculate... it was only an example... -.- thatd be pretty dumb to reveal the real the real calculations...
and who said anything about being able to upgrade anything?...
this game is based on real time battle... theres upgrades for units.... equipment will not be a part of the game... gets too confusing... wayyy too confusing...
concerning levels and magic... each character will have 3 main classes of magic, that shift off into lower branches... when you complete a branch, it opens another branch... up to 3 branches I believe... maybe less.... certain magics require certain levels...
there are ways to continue replayability......
I was thinking of adding certain minigames that boost stats and skills, and adds for you other secret spells and such as long as you meet the requirements...
and who said anything about locking other people out of the newer maps?...
each map that I release is going to have the option to start a new character.... I just had the password system for those who wanted to use their hard earned characters over and over.... I wouldn't want to restrict them to just a single gaming map.... they do get boring after a while...
and my advancement maps will not be anything same....
there were going to be two different maps I already know I want to release.....
first one was the blueguardian_rpg, and the second one was blueguardian_rpg_tactics....
the first one boasts a real time rpg, that also allows other players to duel each other, and fight for points and such....
the second one will boast a whole new renovation.... im talking a whole different system of play using the exact same spells and abilities.... its gonna be a gameboard type map, that players must move squares to defeat enemies... its kinda like final fantasy tactics...
of course you could unprotect my maps... but then again... what are the chances of you being able to understand what my triggers actually do? im not gonna be stupid and name all the triggers dependant on what they do... im also planning on adding "dud" triggers in the fray... to confuse the crap outta those who are trying to unprotect it... sukkas....
for now... I have one major dillemma.... where the heck am I supposed to start...
I wanted to create the pw system first... but I cant do that without the creation of the spells and actual quests... but then again... if I create the spells and actual quests first... then im gonna have to deal with how friggin long the password can possibly be.. I mean... if im restricted to using only 8 matrixes for the pw, and I have 10 quests... ill be skrewed.. o yea... skrewed...
so yea... I dont really have any idea... I was thinking of writing the whole storyline first... cause it has no relation to either the pw, or the quests... and just build off of that...
The story will be based in the past, with the works... but has magic and fun stuff like that... but it will have futuristic concepts... ya know... lust, glory, denial, vengence, regret all that good stuff...
bugs are usually a problem... I can see it now.... a player puts in a password, and then from no where pops out a freaky wierd unit, from no where that they didn't choose and has 9999999 stats and attributes... wow... back to work...
Wow. Dude make this and you will be up there with Bolt on my god list.
Okay.... thanks for the comments and everything you guys... I feel loved. =)
(I forgot to mention last time and didn't want to edit it again..)
I highly suggest you get the engine down before you even start the terrain.
IDEA:
Mabe have some other maps like
MAP1... level 30 an below... EASY For beginer players...Level up your hero
MAP2... level 30-80...Medium if you arnt the right level you cant play the map yet.
MAP3... Level 80... ect ect i could go on and on...
This would be cool because it would add more realums... And you could use different terrain like... twilite for an underwater civilization area.
Im sure you could pull this off but by the time it will be done SC2 will be out

As for a position to start, I would first make your password system. When designing it you can figure out how many quests you think you would want to have. Then I would work on the terrain, and quests.
What your talking about sounds very much like my idea for Illurica RPG only it consisted of 12 characters to play, and a handful (5 of them) had magic abilities. Only problem I had was I ran out of trigger locations in the editor and had to give up on it.
Good luck, your going to need it to make this complex of a map.
Red2Blue what kind of terrain will you be using... And character, will it be
arrows or guns etc.
I'm highly doubtful you can edit maps in Starcraft to play mmorpg and especially have saved characters and what seems to be accounts. This is battle.net, you would have to maintain your own server to maintain that information since the trigger system will not be able to store new information that had not been stated otherwise. The password system you outlined seems detailed... but in the end is it doable? This is SC we are talking about, and even with the best programmers such a system would require more of a game engine than a triggering system. Such a game, even if it were createable, would not use battle.net, but probably run some whole new mod... and thus you might as well start your own mmorpg.exe file and etc. At the very least, can you show us some previews of such password systems in action? It sounds very neat though.
My PW System is more complicated than his, And i'm 1/3 done with it. Trust me, it's doable.
This is a great idea, I personally like it. I would make such a map but I'm working on my movie so maybe I'll make a rpg map about my movie once its done!
And yes I do work on my movie, its an extreamly large project. (I REALLY NEED A NEW SOUND CARD!!! AND GRAPHICS CARD!!! so right know I'm working on a movie with sound, yet I cant hear it....this is very challengeing for sure) Hopefully the maps should be working perfectly for movie time!!! as well as timed perfectly....
Anyways GREAT STUFF AND HOPE THAT IT WILL DONE!!!
I must say, that is a GREAT idea. I suggest you start with the characters and get them to work first. Thats what I start with in any RPG's I "attempt" to make.
I wish you the best of luck with its and I wish I could help bit I'm kinda a newb at map making (not really a newb at map making, just really good map making)
BTW when (if) it comes out...TELL ME!!!
