Well, I was thinking when was the last time I played a board game with friends and it has been years!

My memory usually is about playing games of monopoly that we never finished... that's why I hate that game, it takes too long. Then I played Risk which was fun, but again, took too long and it had too much of a chance factor... Scrabble was fun, but then again my friends like to make up words. I played Sorry, but again it took too much luck...

Well, I was looking at amazon.com and I noticed some better games that I had not head of.

The Settlers of Catan- I heard this game is pure fun and strategy. It also has lots of addons such as if u want to add knights, or if u want to add 5-6 players. The initial set takes around an hour to play and 2-4 players can play.

Axis & Allies- This game looks very interesting and I heard there is a lot of strategy with this one. There is still some dice rolling, but I heard it is very satisfying. 2-5 Players can play, each representing Russia, USA, Japan, Britain, or Germany. It too has lots of spinoffs of the same name.

Acquire- This game has to do with businesses and conquering your opponents. I heard it is a good game with elements of Risk and Monopoly. It is also stated that the game does not take as long. It doesn't say how many players can play, but I'm pretty sure at least 4 can.

Diplomacy- This game I have never played, but I hear it is a true classic. The most original aspect of this game is the fact that no dice, no random elements are used. The game instead uses paper and pen that each player writes what his move is going to be. The goal of the game is to take over the world, and I hear there is lots of negotiating and talking in the game. Sounds like fun and I hear lots of players can play.

Cosmic Encounter- This is a game that I will definitely get. There are 20 different types of aliens. In each game, there are 4 players that randomly get 1 alien. Each game will most likely be different since there will be 10,000+ combinations of 4. The great thing about this game is when battling, luck is absent and it takes some skill. Another great thing is each alien has a unique power that sets it apart from the other 19 aliens. I like the game because of the no luck battling and the fact that each game can be different. It also helps that it is 25% off which is only 30 bucks! If you want to try a free demo of the game to see how it works go to this website:

There are many more great games. I'm thinking of purchasing them because they don't require any sources such as electricity like say the Xbox. Another great thing is that unlike trading card games, they don't require buying lots of booster packs, though some games you could buy expansions... All you need is people, which is not a rare thing in this world. =)

I hate board games... mostly because I lack people to play with happy.gif. I was going to say M:TG, but you stated your dislike with card games at the end.

A long, long time ago I had this game called Omega or Omega Virus or something like that. Your goal is to find three pieces of weaponry to attack this virus in a predefined time limit (20, 25, 30 minutes?). Things get really crazy because you can attack other players to steal their weaponry or destroy their access cards (blue access card to get into blue rooms). I found it quite fun, however, I don't see it in the stores anymore.

Its all about Evil Monopoly in the end, where the purpose is to bankrupt as many people as possible...

I like Monopoly, it is really fun for me. It's really weird, because I forgot all the boardgames I played. It has been years ><

Meh Monopoly and Risk are classics, but they share a common problem... THEY TAKE TOO LONG! It would take hours to finish games and by then, we are exhausted and do a rock-paper-scissors to see who wins.

I don't HATE card games, I just think they just support whoever has the most money, instead of pure skill. In fact, I have started MTG and just bought a Champions of Kamigawa deck, the Way of the Warrior.

Ok, now for some help. I'm thinking of buying one of the games I listed above. Which do you think is the best? I played Cosmic so far and it is a brilliant game, but I want to know if any are better...
