Report, edit, etc...Posted by will454 on 2004-12-20 at 23:17:26
This is a really cool trick that someone made in a map (no author) that i tried to make work on my own tests and they didnt work EXCEPT for one time (dont know what I did confused.gif ). But anyway I need someone I can trust that wont steal the idea for this map (maybe an administrator) who can help me figure out how the person did this (no triggers were involved) If you want to see the map and I can trust you then email me at scarne454@yahoo.com
Hope someone knows how to do it!
helpsmilie.gif please!

I don't steal maps, unless they are real good (joking.) I don't steal maps at all, and you can trust me not to steal your map.

So the trick is that the units are basically frozen (not able to move and no animations). some of them are in fog of war and some are not, but you can still select them and order them around (even in fog of war) but they wont move. There are no triggers so I dont know how the guy did it. I did the trick once and it didnt get saved (or someone deleted it) but I dont know how i did it. O ya, one more thing is that units that are formed (dark archons, archon..) look like they are almost completed but they dont look like they are. If anyone knows how to do this I would be happy to know smile.gif

Player 14:
Player 14 has earned it's prize for the most used player. But many people believe it only increases speed. This is not true. Player 14 has a few more uses you may have not known of. Player 14 also has a few instructions to be used properly. I'll tell you here how to harness player 14's power of time travel. wink.gif
How to make time faster by 2x:
You must place a player 14 map revealer as the first unit on your map. If it is placed after, it will only freeze preplaced units before it. The map revealer can be placed anywhere you wish. All units will be 2 times faster. Some minor glitches may occur, such as if a zerg unit is attacked while burrowing, it may unburrow and cloak at the same time.
How to make time faster by 4x:
For this to work, using the same steps as for 2x speed, you must place an interceptor or scarab instead of a map revealer. Note that a scarab must be placed on land, so that would make the interceptor a better choice. All units will end up 4x faster. This causes major glitches such as many units not attacking properly, vision randomly disappearing and reappearing, and arbiters' cloaking malfunctions.
How to freeze time:
There are 2 ways of doing this. One which will literally freeze units, and one that will partially freeze units. To do the one to fully freeze pre-placed units, place a map revealer, interceptor, or scarab after placing the units you want frozen. The units placed before will be frozen. They can not die, or be controlled. Fog will run over it but you will still see it and be able to click on it. To do the one to partially freeze units, just simply place any ground unit on invalid terrain for player 14. When the game starts, it will say the unit was unplacable and all preplaced units would have been frozen, but will still look like they are moving and can be killed. Killing certain units using this method may crash the game. Fog will run over them like it does in the first method of freezing units.
How to freeze animation:
This is something different, as you can 'freeze unit animation'. Place a player 14 scanner sweep anywhere. Once that scanner sweep ends, all units that were moving will be stuck in their current animation. Note that if you kill any of these units, the game will crash.

Will this is a known thing, it probally orginated from someone on this site, so in essence, it wouldnt be stealing, plus i wouldnt think that this had alot of use in a real map.

If you read SA_Max's post you would have seen this

"To do the one to fully freeze pre-placed units, place a map revealer, interceptor, or scarab after placing the units you want frozen. The units placed before will be frozen. They can not die, or be controlled. Fog will run over it but you will still see it and be able to click on it. Killing certain units using this method may crash the game. Fog will run over them like it does in the first method of freezing units."

(Didnt quote cause i need minerals biggrin.gif )

Thats whats happening in the map you have posted, i assume the creator put a player 14 unit on the water.

This is SEN, im sure people have better things to do here than to go around stealing maps.

Besides, player 14 is a common practice when doing things like that. It's no longer something new to the mapping community.

First of all, nobody would want to have THAT map. It's nothing.

Secondly, this mapping community is about sharing new discoveries. So when a new discovery is made, most people here will know about it. Though looking at the archon gave me an idea.

Ok. I'm going to start a list of the (fully) frozen units.

CODE

Start Location(Sprite-unit) - "Invisible"
Beacons - "Invisable"/Disappear
Doors - Frozen
Traps - Unselectable, clearly seeable, can not move units over top of it.
Powerups - Frozen. Can not be picked up.
Critters - Frozen.
Scanner Sweep - Nothing
Disruption web/Dark Swarm - Frozen, cool effect.
Mercinary gunship/Cargo ship - Frozen
Independant Starport - "Invisible".

All Protoss buildings - All "Invisible". Provide requirements. Will regenerate shields. Still provides supply.
Protoss Photon Cannon - Still detects cloaked units.
All Protoss units - All "frozen". Will regenerate shields.
Protoss Carrier/Reaver - Can put interceptors/scarabs in que, will not build.
Protoss Archon - Cool effect
Protoss Dark Archon - Cool effect
Protoss Dark Templar - Cool effect
Protoss Observer - Doesn't exactly cloak, still detects cloaked units
Protoss Shuttle - Will still load/unload units :)

All Terran buildings - All "Invisible". Provide requirements. Still provides supply.
Terran missile turret - Still detects.
All Terran units - All "frozen". Can be repaired.
Vulture Spider mine - Cool effect.
Terran Science Vessel - Still detects.
Terran siege tank(Siege mode) - Cool effect
Terran dropship - Will still load/unload units :)
Pre-cloaked units - will become "invisible"

All Zerg Buildings - All "Invisible". Provide requirements. Still provides supply. Still provides creep.
Overminds - Still detect.
Zerg Spore Colony - Still detects
All Zerg units - All "frozen". Will still heal. Trying to morph will have you lose money.
Zerg Cocoon - Cool effect.
Zerg Egg - Cool effect.
Zerg Lurker egg - Cool effect
Zerg Overlord - Still detects. Will still load/unload units :)
All burrowed units - Will be "invisible".

All Transport units - Units inside will not unload after a certain time period of loading. The time is not much, once hp gets to 0, units inside will "die". You can then load more units in.

Goliath Turret - Does not crash, goliath turret facing forward
Tank turret(tank mode) - Does not crash, tank turret facing right
Tank turret(Siege mode) - Does not crash, tank turret facing left
All "Crashing" units - Make a rock sprite, appear to be a "dot" of some sort, "invisible", do not crash.
