If i make a map with computers running the insane trigger, do i then have to play the map in UMS mode??
Also, do i have to have buildings and units for them, or can i just run from a start location?
Yes. And no, you have to provide them with units.
If you want two or more computer players to run a insane AI script, then you need to run it in UMS mode. Like Chu said, you need buildings and units for this to work. I recommend putting a buidling such as a command center as close as possible to some resources for the computer player(s).
Yeah and use Base Mode if you u want the command center and teh minerals to be perfect.. if not then its ur choice
You don't even know what editor he's using and you're already telling him to use base mode.

Yes, you have to run the map in UMS mode to make triggers work. And yeah you have to have buildings for them to start up. Just get there start location under a starting building (command center/hatchery+evolutions/nexus) and put some minerals and vespene geysers nearby. I'd also recommend putting 4 SCV/drone/probe near the start locations, but in UMS maps, it's whatever you want to do.
You can give them just workers and some resources, but then they have to build their first building which takes some time.

I don't think any of the ai scripts does this for the player's first building. And since you can't make a trigger that will directly tell a worker to build/warp/morph a buidling in... Ya.
I've had it work. If the worker is in the location and it has minerals, it will build a CC in the middle of the location. When I can find the map (I may have deleted it, I can remake it though), I'll post it. It always built that building.
