Doodads have 2 parts: the sprite, and the terrain under the sprite.
From what I hear, SF can't place actual doodads, just the sprites, and the terrain. You have to place both to make a real doodad.

censored.gif man. I use any where between 2 to 3 editors to make any individual map.

Starforge. SCMDraft. And X-tra.

If you save in Starforge, and open in Staredit, your sprites will become erased with the error "misplaced or obsolete doodads". Use SCMIE to export the sprites and re-import them after you're done working in Staredit.

That would just be a sprite on some terrain, not the "doodad", but will appear to be the doodad.

SC only reads that, it doesnt reads the doodad itself. So yes, placing the terrain and then the sprite would be the easiest way to create a doodad in SF. Also, it comes with some sets of 'custom brushes' with the terrain of each doodad. Just find the right brush and place the right sprite and you get the doodad.

For work with staredit using sprites you can:
A - Use SCMIE for export sprites, work with the map and reimport them
B - Open the map in SCMDRAFT2, I think that it converts the terrain+sprite into real doodads that staredit reads.

I find that if you have doodasd in a map and save it in StarForge, then you can save it in SCM Draft and the doodads will stay (as long as you don't move the sprites). If you skip SCM Draft, then they stay as sprites and get lost in X-tra.
