They download it and leaves and lets the host push "OK" longer. They sometimes don't play it at all, no point of stealing if you just steal, no play... Map stealers are making themselves lag for having too much map files...

I have no idea what you just said.

Thats more of map downloading but the "bad" map stealing is taking all the credit for nothing. Having a lot of maps can't make it lag if it does then it has to be around 10,000 maybe I mean I have 2,000 to 3,000 maps maybe. And finally people that do that either want to collect maps or get a map quickly or just needs it fast for some reason.

As for what you said, I don't think anyone cares about those kind in SEN.

By map stealing he means the people who download the map and then leave.
That is called leavers.

Our term of map stealing is people who take good protected maps, unprotect it and then they put their name in as the author.

How exactly are you stealing the map, its just bad form to do it.

Who takes any maps and puts there name on it. Regardless of if it is protected or not.

Oh yeah theres no way the amount of maps can cause you to lag in SC. All it effects is the amount of harddrive space you have filled. And in a hardrives perspective now days they amount to almost nothing.

I have it on my F:\ drive rather than my C:\, thus ruling out any lag due to maps (Even though my SC is in my F:\ too biggrin.gif)

i delete my maps once a month or have my friend do it.

I have 80 MB of maps, and I only lag in SC, 'cause of my 56GAY connection over GAY-OL.
It's even more annoying when they DL the map, and let you press Go, then they leave just before it starts, and you have to RM. Map stealers are so annoying, I've made some cool maps on my Mac, and when I play them, n00bletts steal the maps, 'cause I can't protect 'em.

Have people protect them for you!

That, or use GUEdit! Lol, that'd only stop the noobliest of the noobs.
I've seen a map stealer talking about a map he 'made' when the real map maker was in the same channel... It had a great ending, THERE WAS A MAP OFF!

MY SC/BW folder got up to 3.5 gigs....course that was because I had 2.5k UMS maps, a ton of normal maps, 28 TC's/MODS for SC and 20 quality campaigns which with their music/videos took alot of space.

Are you people freaking stupid? Having alot of maps doesn't cause you to lag. If anything lack of free harddrive space could cause you to lag. But the amount of space taken up by SC Map is compleatly unrelated.

I have 556 Megs of maps (just over 4,000) and it doesn't cause a bit of lag. Because HELLO they don't make 2 gig hardrives anymore. I have 11 gigs free on my C drive an thats all that matters. So i guess Having alot of SC maps doesn't cause lag anymore than having alot of MP3 maps. So i guess with my harddrive space if I end up getting another 84 thousand maps then I MIGHT have lag because of it. But I still doubt it.

PS. Is this why people delete there maps on a regular basis? cause they think it causes lag.

I uninstall or backup everything on my computer about once every 3 months and get myself together afterwards to make sure the computer is clean and running peak.

maybe its because they love the thrill of re-dling the same maps over and over

you can save your time and defragmintate your hard drive instead, it'll be even cleaner that way and you won't have to re-install anything.

You need to do alot more than that to run at a really good performance. Every week, i do the following,

-Run Spybot S&D
-Run Adaware
-Run PCBug Doctor (Fixes alot of different problems)
-Run Disk Defrag
-Run Disk Clean-up
-Run ScanDisk

And depending on how my computer has been running, i sometimes run a few other things.
Only reason my comp still runs a little slow is because of SP2. Can't run HL2 on it, have to run it on another comp :/

Oh come on, just do the most simple thing. Map>Properties>READ ONLY

Then protect with GUEdit.

The newbs will be left out. But then the newbies who have downloaded the unprotector will unprotect it, right? Well! They open it, spend all their time trying to change all the names and then hit save and recieve the error:
"Could not open file 'C:\Program Files\Starcraft\maps\download\DONT_STEAL.scx' for writing."
And believe me, they will most likely be too newb to change the file output. And even if they do, it wont be able to overwrite the map on your harddrive. AND, if they do manage to uncheck READ ONLY, it STILL can't overwrite your map because on YOUR computer its READ ONLY. If you try to download it you will just automatically leave the game at 99%.

Hey, I gotta try that, that's a neat idea. If anyone would be able to figure out that's what happened, they probably know how to unprotect any map, so it doesn't matter. Nice job regimentaL biggrin.gif

Except protect it with proedit biggrin.gif

Setting it to read only is actually a great idea. Nice work regimentaL.
