Report, edit, etc...Posted by RexyRex on 2004-12-31 at 03:08:50
Before you judge me by this topic, know this:
I could care less what you think of me and what actions you take upon this thread.
I would like to stay away from the: "I'm serious but I'm flaming you in some subliminal way. Also I'll go against people and act like I know everything, then flame you more." people. Stay away meaning don't reply please.
If your name is Salacious, stay the hell out of this thread. You one of the people mentioned in the second bullet. Your actually the king of them.
If you are one of the "Sala is cool becuase Moose said so, and also like Moose said he is cool and stuff becuase he's honest etc. Yea go Sala don't flame him" people I also would be happy if you didn't reply to this thead.

In all seriousness:
By "Want to be recognied" I mean you can prove that you know what your doing Starcraft wise, text or map display preferably.
Recognized meaning in this thread would pretty much be: "I can do many many flashy tricks in SC, develop good systems etc.. Just no one knows, I'd like to show them"
I don't want: "I can make a map OMG no one notices me."
Flaming as in the under the skin flaming. This is why I didn't want Salacious to reply, becuase he is doing "Under the skin flaming." Example: "My maps triggers took four hours to do level one it's really cool." "Well I like your system but I doubt it took you four hours all it does it move the unit to a different stage. Nothing new here." I have done this, I am sorry. What your doing by replying like this is telling the person their work sucks. Not cool.

People I belive should be recognized, and are not:
• DistortGiygas, aka cC.Distort
His maps usually have original triggering systems, such as Uno Defense or Stacked Defense. A lot of bashing on him comes from Sala who hates him for reasons I do not know. A little immature yes, but a great mapmaker all the same.
• X-Axle aka Mp)Hexx
This individual has busted his butt to make some astounding terrain and some pretty fun bounds. His bounds are the classic "Double explosion in a pattern go dodge it" bounds, but they are really fun. The terrain in itself blows you away. Axle has currently not been online for a bit, partly becuase of me not being signed onto east. Sorry Axle.
• nuclearrabbit
Has shown to his friends that he has broken all StarCraft limits using a Mac, which is no easy thing. He also made Mac edit, which of course I didn't get to try so I can't comment on that.

Reasons I think I should be recognized:
Ask some of my friends on East and West. I know what I'm doing. One thing I am proud of is trigger systems I have though up. For example, I have used a bit of switches to make it so when you select a special move, it adds points to your kills score until your kills are tied with the current leader. If your the leader, you get another chance to pick a special move. It's not as easy as it sounds, but it is very simple. Another sample is when I have units appear to leave a tank in order from Player 1 to Player 5 skipping players that are not in the game. That took a lot of repetitive triggers and some more switches, most people I belive would give up and create a simpler trigger to do something that seem like the same effect. I belive the little special effects should be appreaciated.

I really can't put this into words becuase standing up for yourself when you think you sound stupid and there are a lot of people waiting to bash you for it is a bit hard. "Look I don't even know what I'm trying to say, just don't forget me." mellow.gif I'll be adding on to my own section later.

But this isn't about me. It's about everyone who deserves to be noticed by the rest of the community.

I feel like such an idiot..

Well, how do I say this. I'll just nominate someone.

Rexyrex is a good friend on b.net. I'm not really into what he can do with maps, he's just a really good friend you can socialise with. In addition he sometimes help in map making assistance which i consider a good trait to assist others. biggrin.gif

Laurent14 aka Launcher(U)

He is proboly the best under appreciated mapmaker I have ever met. Long time ago he was banned from (U) cause of his low mapmaking skills. In reality he no doubt ranked in the top 3 in the clan in terms of triggering skills and his own leader didn't realize it. His triggers are awsome, (at least he comments them in english now days) The last thing he showed me had me stumped for several hours (thats proboly underestamating it. I think it was more like 2 days. He requested that i not show it to anyone. He also showed me Negitive Minerals long before Deathknight Anounced it here.

He pretty much hides everything he has ever made and has no intent to show off, even to his friends. To my knowleage he was the first person to replicate my "cool trigger" map and he did it better than I too.

Well I suppose thats about the best thing I can say about a mapmaker, I doubt he will ever see this post though.

Rexy, I agree, Distort is quite underrated as an inventive trigger/map maker. He's always asking me what's possible in SC, and more than half the time, I've never even thought of what he's asking me about. He has a good way of doing complex things with triggers. He also recognises map making skills in others.
From the maps I've seen that Rexy has made, they're quite interesting in the way ideas play out, and triggers are used for actions in the game.
Another person I'd like recognised is myself, Lol. Obvious reasons. Also, one of the only Mac map makers I know who can emulate some of what PC-er's can do.

Hm.
I haven't really seen any high skills on Distort's part, but I haven't really picked apart his maps, either, so that doesn't mean anything.

Personally, I don't have any to nominate.
I would say myself, but I'm good at coming up with ideas, sometimes complex ones, but I'm horrible at presenting things in a manner that is either fun or good looking.

How should he be recognized then?

Anyway, if he's just going to keep everything to himself then it isn't worthwhile.
Map makers are recognized by what they do, not by what they keep.
If he doesn't want to be recognized then that is his decision.

RexyRex is a girl screwed. I don't know everyone I know of is pretty good. I'd have to say that Rexy is better than what people think so recognize her.

This is true, but more to the point..

I deeply appreciate it Razell. I also appreciate the way this thread is going. Good job on keeping to the "Guidelines." I actually was expecting at least one comment about how this is a stupid thread (I don't think so).

Anyways, I don't have anyone to nominate now except nucclearrabbit, who has shown to his friends that he has broken all StarCraft limits using a Mac, which is no easy thing. He also made Mac edit, which of course I didn't get to try so I can't comment on that.

I nominate MutilatedPuppet. He hasn't been on SC for years, but very few people know him - he started the whole horror genre of maps. Also, he was using buildings for spellcasting before I knew what a trigger was, so he gets props for that.

I also nominate Alpha(MC). Death Knights III is possibly the best StarCraft RPG ever made, check it out. His terrain and mood-setting aesthetics are top notch, and his understanding of triggers makes him a pro, IMO.

Lastly, I nominate !!!SaltMan!!!, for being a terrific triggerer and a very well-rounded map-maker. He just stands out in my mind, for some reason. He helped me get the skills I needed to jump in the tub and parley with the "big boys" of map-making. So to speak.

Lol.. sorry about that Rexyrex...

Whether you're a boy or a girl.. that wouldn't change anything biggrin.gif

I'm going to nominate a few people:

First i nominate Heroic-SCV- or something like that. He made the first "boundish" type map with his Obstacle Course map. It was one of the coolest obstacle maps at that time. Then people started to make maps similar to his, starting with things like snowbound and stuff.

I also nominate Big-Fat-Homo. People remembered him like 2-3 years ago very well but now no one's probably ever heard of him. He's one of my top 3 idols in the starcraft map making world. He made those qua teras rpgs and i believe his biggest creation of all was the first ever matrix defense.

I also nominate Ghost[yoon] as well. He's been famed, but not enough as he deserves. His defense and bomberman maps were amazing and should earn much praise.

Then i nominate Panzer_Kavalier. Not for his maps, but for what he's doing in real life. I believe he is part of the US Army fighting right now in Iraq. Whether alive or not, he is not only a great map maker but a soldier defending our country.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Razell on 2005-01-02 at 23:17:13
MillenniumArmy your right about that with Panzer. I met the guy once in his Normandy map and he was pretty cool guy and it's good that he's serving his country. He was and always will be a great map maker.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by VoidArchon(MC) on 2005-01-03 at 03:22:01
I don't only defend my country, but i also defend my street!! Burnside Rd. which is the root to basicly all districts in my town. tongue.gif lmfao.gif i just felt like saying that.
but to get to the point;

I like to lowly mention Pr0- (myself but another really known identity), i used to only make bounds, bounds that some people would say is crappy, and some would say is some the best work of bounds ever...but then there are ALOT people who hates Pr0- as a clan hopper, and alot who respected him as a friend. But NO ONE really ever considered him any good with any triggers...when in the dark corner of an cursed isle, he was making really good unreleased maps that he wouldn't mention to anyone.
so all the people who think he's a crappy map maker, please don't. tongue.gif

but i'd like to heavily mention C5_Galaxy cry.gif, he was one my best friends on starcraft ever. He wasn't only a great melee player, but also made melee maps. and was working on an advanced version of Crash RPG, he was probably one of the best melee map makers also cry.gif, he had 3 different melee maps, same terrain but different tile sets...all freehand. And he made the most amazing melee map ever...i submitted it to a website sometime, we used it for a recruitment map for a medium class west melee clan known as Clan XoN-, he was a little known boy with a big dream. To be a respected map maker in the community, but before anyone really knew him, he quit starcraft. i'm going to dedicate my next finished RPG to him. cry.gif

Noone nominate bolt yet lol, yea but your already famous bolt. Yea i agree on distort.

MutilatedPuppet, he pretty much retired from sc.

I would like to nominate, Timaeus. He a pretty good all around map maker, very creative in ideas and terrain designs as well as plots and alot other things.

Also love to nominate, hashmalum he just damn good at terrain..

Uh also nominating, (DB)Baal, another good mapper who create very well made rpgs with nice storys, good gameplay and other stuff.

Nominate, Pro- aKa VoidArchon, for being kickass mapper and always trying his best and make very nice maps. Even so some are bounds yet still good =)>

Uh nominate, DemonicDragon, Many of ya may not even know him but he is very kickass map maker with lots of skills in triggering. I think he is good or better then bolt and tuxedo don't know maybe all equal, very skilled in terrain/triggering/thinking up ideas and complex stuff.

Last nomination is, Revelade for created a series of worthless maps that are pretty alright lol, kidding creating some nice maps and bad.

Can't be stuffed nominating myself not even worth it lol.

Oh yeah SaltMan is pretty good. Don't forget {JRC}Thermo (or whatever the exact name was). He was really good too.

He was that guy that was being a total ass and was banned wasn't he? If i recall he wasn't that good, he just Took Laurent14's Stuff and replicated it. For some reason he got the inside scoop on all that.

Lastly i would like to Nominate

{M~M}M@STER aka Eternal(U)- Old leader of the MM clan, no longer plays. Gave his acount to Oo.Solar.oO.

GoldenUrg - Although he is pretty well known he is becoming more and more forgotten. His chess map is genious. I THINK i know how he did MOST of it, although I never looked at the triggers that carefully. But creating a map that can detect if the king is in check mate and run checks to make sure the king isn't put into check when you move is crazy.

The more i think about it the more amazed i get. I should try to replicate some of stuff but I know I would never get around to it and sure as heck never finish it.

One more person to nominate, Shinra(U).

Even tho he has quit SC and his AE map did not receive enough recognition, I still remember the times he said he wanted to give up map making and still persisted to finish his maps. I think that kind of determination to finish maps and work behind what people see on the surface should be acknowledged.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Razell on 2005-01-03 at 11:48:31
Wow that GoldernUrg guy has amazed (U)Bolt_Head, he has to be awesome.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MillenniumArmy on 2005-01-03 at 12:38:42
ooooooh yes. I 4got to mention GoldenUrg. He definately needs deserves more recognition. First, he made GUEdit which was one of the best editors at its time. Secondly, his kick ass maps, like Chess, are just totally amazing. Even to this day, i still cannot figure out even 1% of the triggers in his map.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Razell on 2005-01-03 at 18:31:39
I wanna see this Chess map you speak of to see if I can understand it (I probally won't be able to if you can't)

I'd have to nominate MutilatedPuppet as well, when I first bought SC and played his original Alien map it blew my mind and he was my idol from then on. He may not have made the most complex or polished maps, but he pulled off some cool, fun ideas and concepts that make his maps extremely fun to play. He also said he liked Harvest. biggrin.gif

Also, MillenniumArmy has introduced some cool concepts for maps too, even if his old maps weren't that polished they were still really cool and have really strong staying power. I still see Drawing Contest being played all the time.

qPirateKing has done some fantastic terrain and Legacy of Haean is one of the most polished games I've ever seen, it really looks professional.

Also the creator of my favorite SC map of all time, The T H I N G, {SM}-Sir_Shadow (is that his name...? :?) I've never seen mistrust and hate come out of nowhere and confuse players into thinking the innocent is guilty and the guilty is innocent. I remember several games where it was made that I looked like the bad guy, but I was the crazy man who was right all along, with my death from a ally the truth about the thing was revealed! It was Blue!

Oh, me too, because I'm awesome. tongue.gif

I totally agree, The THING Ice 4.1 by {SM}Sir-Shadow is my #1 favorite. Props to him. The funny thing is, his clan was mostly a melee clan. The Thing and another crappier map (called Shadow RPG) are the only UMS maps I've ever seen with his name attached. But you gotta love MutilatedPuppet for coming up with the Thing idea in the first place.
