It depends.... What your talking about

Only if you use StarForge or scm draft to make an invalid map size, like 550x2087 or w/e, otherwise

I got a map of 107 mb. It crashes b.net. Why? confused.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2005-01-02 at 23:29:52
You ave units over the edge of the map, invalid units, something like that. It will not be because of the map size.

mad.gif The map doesnt crash single player.

What i mean is that i can not create that map as a game (with me as host u kno). It just crashes, or i should say freezes ranting.gif

Once maps become ridiculously hugh like "107mb" then battle.net won't allow you to play them anymore.

I believe it cuts it off around 50 megs.

Now I under stand it. n2o-simpsons had a problem like this and he couldn't figure out what made his map so big. I looked at it and he had over 5000 units. What makes your map so big?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by (U)Bolt_Head on 2005-01-03 at 01:45:17
5000 units? Starforge or something.

That wouldn't make the map that large though, That can only be acomplished by wavs. And Lots of them. Like maybe he has a book on tape in the map.

Hmm so when you make maps bigger than 256 by 256 in an editor they actually work on b.net? Interesting cool1.gif .

i think its the music, i have something like 12 songs on it.

That's y i dont add much sound to my maps. It takes too long for ppl to dl. They'll get impatience and leave.

Pretty much noone would have much interest in sitting around for a long time waiting for a 107mb map to dl in game anyway. Cut it down some how.

50 megs? That sound map that lagged bnet horribly that you took hours to dl was over 60.

No it was 39.8 MB (i still have it, just looked)

But yeah a 100 meg map would take at least 6 hours to download IF the download is going REALLY fast.

What is the battle.net transfer rate? Between 1KB/sec and 7KB/sec? It is seriously sad what it is.

38mb?? i would nvr dl that map of bnet. Whhy dont u just make a no sound version for battle net that under 5mb and then a sound version to give to your friends or something. Then people might actually wait to dl the map
Report, edit, etc...Posted by chuiu on 2005-01-04 at 20:43:00
Or you could MPQ patch it and setup a place to dl the patch. That way you only use 1 map and people with the patch have the added sound effects. I'm pretty sure there is a tutorial on this.

IM not really sure how to use Star Forge 2.2 confused.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by (U)Bolt_Head on 2005-01-05 at 00:37:04
It depends on what your trying to acomplish. If your just seeking public fame then it shouldn't be anymore than .25megs (250kb).

But for between friends and standard battle.net use i wouldn't go over 1.5 megs, and thats hugh.
