I was (for no aparent reason except that I was bored) recently at wikipedia.com and I looked up the word leet. It eventually brought me to "pwn". Where, when I read down the page it seemed to have a reference to one of SWW's maps.

I was wondering if anyone else noticed that that might be refering to SWW's Twisted Bound? If so then did SWW unintentionally CREATE THE WORD PWN?!

No, it is a typo of the word "own". People for some reason would type p instead of o, own was a popular word, so because everone got accustomed to 'pwn' it became a regular shortform.

From what I understand Pwn translates to Pure Own the P standing for Pure, I could be wrong but thats what I heard.

It was actually Blizzard that unintentionally invented 'pwned' and its variations.

In a beta of Warcraft I, the programmers made a typo that said 'Player x was pwned by Player y'

And so the saga began...

Will's right, it was Blizzard's creation.

Before I found that out, I always assumed that it meant pawned.

Really? That's awesome.

I also thought it ment "Pawned" and I continue to do so.

When people started to think Pwn ment Pawn as in i own you so ill pawn you, etc. so some people made up a gay phrase later on called 'Rent' like i'll rent you, eventually own you then pawn you. all this is very very stupid.
