What would REALLY happen if I wrote (not saying I'm going to =)) a program or a document to unlock maps protected with Proedit or Togikon's shield protector (since they use different methods)?
Again I'm not saying I'm going to but it's interesting to discuss what COULD happen.
"Those who don't know there past are distended to repeat it."
Well leaving all feelings of morals out . . . Its already happened before it would pretty much be the exact same thing. Lots of flaming and people trying there best to keep it secret. Some people even quit or become tempted to quit mapmaking as a whole because the feel there work is compromized and don't want to continue it any longer. The only differance is the more it happens the harder it is to make a map protector that could over come it It is likely that it would be impossable, to make a new protector if not the next time but the time after.
What if a program is made that does this system: "check all above hex pathfiles, if somthing is missing then replace with raw data", this system looks at a map, replaces what ever is damaged and gives you the new map that is now openable, now what do you think would happen, since no protector could do anything?
You could make it so that it can open a map, you can look around at triggers and locations and

, but you cant save or anything.

I already answered that.
I would welcome a map-unprotector that would work on the Mac platform only, as us Mac users tend to be older and more honourable (i.e. we don't steal maps!).
Blizzard did not intend us to protect our maps.
Also, bear in mind that it was this kind of discussion that led to SEN getting hacked by some extremist.

Nor did they intend for them to be stolen.

I hope you don't actually belive that.
There's already map unprotectors; they're called hex editors. Get some skill and do it that way. I've done it enough, but I NEVER steal maps. It's just not right.
i wish some one would teach me how to hex edit. just to feel special and not steal maps

Well, no...but I do believe in freedom of digital information - and that includes SC maps.
I have never protected a map and never will.
You know you're violating Staredit's License Agreement when you protect a map, right?
Hey! We cant help it if the other people cant read it!
