Objectives:
The objective of this game is to defeat the other player, on the opposing island. To do so, you must build Factory's, Missile Depot's, and Resource Plant's to advance your army.

To defend yourself from the opposing menace, contruction of Ground Turrets and AA Turrets are mandatory.

Construction of Science Facility's will help you in other ways that will be described later on.

Each building you build will cost you Minerals, that you will gain over time, as long as your Headquarters are online (Land your Headquarters to turn them online).

Attacking:
The targeting system used in Metal Marines is unique in it's own way, in that it allows you to directly control exactly where everything you launch at your opponent will land or explode.

To fire Missiles, it is required that you have at least 1 Vespene Gas. You will gain Vespene Gas over time for each Missile Depot you command. First, select how many Missiles you wish to fire at the bottom of the map, 1 or 2. You will be able to fire more at a time when you build a Science Facility or an Advanced Science Facility. Then unload units from your Controls right above this area, to move your target. Crosshairs will appear, that will designate the area of effect of each missile, and where exactly they will land. When you are ready to attack, simply click Fire Missile.

To launch Marines, it is almost identical, only that you will need Factory's to produce Metal Marines, and Advanced Factory's to produce Gold Marines. But be warned, attacking Marines will die after time, on the enemy island, unless you have a Marine Laboratory.

Defending:
Your opponent starts with the exactly the same things as you, and they will attempt to attack you as soon as possible. To defend from these attacks, you will need 2 buildings.

AA Turrets, to stop incoming Missiles,
And Ground Turrets to take out attacking Marines.


Another way to defend yourself is to build Decoy Headquarters, to fool your opponent, or to assign Marines to defend your island instead of attacking.

What exactly are you defending? Well, there are two ways to lose the game.
1. By having your Headquarters get killed twice.
2. By having all 3 of your Base Builders die.

These are important points as you will need to kill your opponent using these methods.

Extra Information:
- Never lift-off buildings. excl.gif
- Always land your Headquarters.
- Try not to build over the maximum displayed amount of each building (Science Facility's and Advanced Science Facility's have a maximum of 1).
- Never land your Marines on unpassable terrian.
- When launching a ICBM, first target something with your missile aimer, then psi storm yourself to declare a launch.
- If you do not know what a specific building does, in-game there is an information section you can use to tell you.
- Yes, this map is based on the SNES game.

Metal Marines is 100% completed, but I submitted it to the DLDB on 01/14/05, so it should be less than a week before it's available!

It sounds really neat, great idea Khaos. I will play when I can find it the dldb. How long were you working or planning on the map, it sounds great.

It was pretty fast.. He our crew test the aiming system, then the map grew out of that. I say it was finished in 2 weeks.

JoO finally there is an awesome way to use the Coordination system! (I know there is fews map working with it but well...they suck wink.gif )

I really didn't like it. Although the triggering was pretty nice the gameplay is horrible.
The game is way too slow and mins should eb gained a little bit faster to make the game faster paced.
Instead of having all those observers that do nothing but watch a slow game why not remove observers and make the game a 3v3?

When I first set out to make the map, I decided that making it 1vs1 would be best. One of these reasons is because I didn't want this map to be a major project that would never be completed.

Also, the gameplay isn't supposed to be fast paced, it is meant to be chess-like. This is so that accurate aiming and superior strategy wins over being able to do things fast.

If you're into fast paced games that require less thought, go play some zergling blood. tongue.gif

If you would've said it was supposed to be slow then I would've understood the game a little more.

It seems what you said is correct, strategy does win over speed.

That is why you build three resource buildings (engineering bays). Also, to be the most effective with missiles(speed missiling), do a constant bombardment by moving your aim to the next target as soon as the last missile you launched has exploded or been destroyed. You will need a couple missile suppliers (depots) to make your missile supply go up fast enough for this constant assault. Getting the two science facilities is advised when speed missiling so you can shoot more missiles at once, making it more effective.

Not when you have to make another aa turret at the spot where the opponent's missile just destroyed an AA, and hoping that you can make the turret before another missile comes and blows up the resource bay the AA is protecting, or when you're screwed over by a billion metal marines!

I personaly think it wudl be cool for a 3v3... But i don't know how you would fit all the players into the 1 island... Mabe enlarge the amp and make more islands?

Overall This map Owns...

BTW: I don't understand the system where you move the targeting system almost 1 grid to the left... How did that work?
Can someone explain it?

3v3 Would be too hectic, with ganging up going on. I love the 1v1 approach, though I wish the observors could affect it via 1 rine strikes etc, just to keep things intresting.

2v2 would be something to shoot for, along with more buildings if this gets popular enough. MM2. Spread! Prosper! Unite! Get Laid!

The biggest complaint I have about this is when you're trying to cross over the atlantic to bomb your own base...that takes forever. crazy.gif

Pretty much the same, but I modified it so you can't win via this really cheesy stratagy that im not telling how to do.

maby in MM2 if you do make it make like Marines that have to hold place to defend stuff or something or just keep the Goliths

add super nukes! (takes like 1hr+ to make) that like pwn the whoal side of the map thus they take a long time and a lot of money

stuff to look forward too ":p

If you do that, divide the base into quadrants and have the missle sender choose a quadrant to blow up... (missle should be killable)
