I just installed SC and BW, and when I try to get online it says my Modem may not be working. To my knowledge it's working fine.

Get the patch.It happened to me but after i did patch it worked

Either download the patch directly from Blizzard or try to wait it out. It did that to my Wc3 for a while but then it's gone.
Also try changing gateways and see if it happens with all 4 of them.

giving it time works but then again you don't know how long it will tkae it could take a year, u never know..i had to download the patch directly from blizzard, after that it worked fine, but recently i got comeast digital cable, and i love it..fast internet for a fast computer

Going througha router sometimes make's that happen because starcraft get's put behind a firewall.

try getting the new patch for it or unistalling it. also check yur modem or all 4 gateways. if none if this works, it may be yur cd-key......
